I’m better but the disks below my fusion went so I can’t feel half my left hand - have you seen my updated videos ?

Hi Kim, Thank you for the update and all the videos. I watched all several times in order to prep myself for the ACDF C4-7 in mid November. One question I have. Do you have difficulty sleeping?
Do I need to sleep facing up all the time? I love sleeping sideways so I am just curious how you position yourself on the bed after this surgery. I am also doing another surgery after this on my lower back L3-4. I will definitely get that stick you showed on the video so I can self massage and also get cushions in different shapes.

Hello. I normally sleep on my back anyway. I think in one of the videos I reference that sometimes I can’t even sleep with a pillow because of a little bit of elevation. But since my surgery, it’s been OK. But it’s hard for me to identify sleep, just because I tend to have insomnia. My issue lately has been pain in the shoulder blade and the armpit that has been causing me some pain but other nights I would put a pillow under my arm and it would help. You’re not allowed to sleep on your stomach for a little bit. You’re allowed to sleep on your side but it has been a certain kind of position. But on the back is best and recommend it. They also say just a thin pillow. But I did sleep on my side often. You just need to make sure it’s not to elevate it meaning your neck. You’re supposed to log role in and out of bed. I found myself forgetting this and just sitting up which I guess isn’t the best but my body just did it.
I hope this is helpful. Wishing you the best of luck

@@KimWright Thank you for your reply. I guess I will need to sleep face up for a while after the surgery and get used to it. I also do have insomnia issue as I cannot sleep more than 2 hours straight without waking up. I wake up at least 3-4 times throughout the night. Hope this surgery will allow me to sleep longer and get some real rest without pain and discomfort. Thanks again for your input. Hoping the discomfort in your arm will go away soon too.

@@rogerwilco3472 Hi Chris, Thank you for your input. I think am pretty well prepared and stocked up for easy to eat food and drinks plus whole bunch of straws. 8 more days to go but I might have a delay in the procedure. My PCP suggested I get a second opinion from a different neurosurgeon. So I went to see one last week and I was told it might be better to do my procedure from the back side since Asians tend to have more bone build up on the back side. To determine this, he scheduled me for a CT Scan next Monday. Since I will be meeting with the first neurosurgeon tomorrow for pre-operation checkup, I will tell him about the suggestion the second surgeon mentioned so he can check the CT scan to make sure. More check up and testing the better I think. Being a mechanic, I just want to make sure all is done right and nothing get overseen. Whether I get cut in front or back, I really don't care but just want to make sure the procedure will get done right. A little scared and worried but I am looking forward to a real good night sleep after this is all done.
Thank you again for your encouragement! Spent five years of discomfort, pain and insomnia so I can't wait.

@@KaazTech good idea. Let me know if you have other questions. I’m a little over 2 months post op and finally feel great. Some minor discomfort in shoulder blade or side of neck but otherwise feel amazing. Definitely wish I didn’t torture myself so bad before the surgery and the first few week after lol
