Here's my final review of the Hyper SSe truggy from HoBao. This is a good truggy, but like most RTR RCs out there, there are flaws that hold it back being great.

These are a great RC! Truly deserve to be on a track.. I've had one for almost 2 years now, I bought the rolling chassis version adding a 4268 2650kv X8 motor, 15t pinion, Hobbywing 8BL150 esc, JX Black 32kg servo, a UBEC set to 7.4v (servo is nice and fast now!), and running on 4S at the track using Duratrax X-cons tyres (never even used the stock wheel/tyres). Also delved into the shocks and diffs, with 600cst front 550cst rear shock oils, and 10k cst front / 300k cst centre / 7k cst rear diff oils. A few camber adjustments and extended the wheelbase by 5mm (moving the little plastic collars ahead of the rear hubs) and it handles beautifully on track. This thing easily holds its own against other expensive brands at the club, I'm chuffed to bits with it, and nothing on it has broken yet... just like my 3 other Hobao's. Very underrated RC's!

Nice review Vas! Another perfectly honest review. Question...I own one of these and my front driveshafts keep popping out of the inner drive flanges, they are to short. Any ideas why?

To add to Vas' excellent review of the Huyper SSTE. I have a few tips. I have owned one for about 7 mo. I have bashed and raced it. So for shock springs you will want either Team Associated rc8 t3 or Agama A8t . They both fit perfectly and come in a wide array of flavors! Also you will need to shim your diffs. The Losi diff shim set works as well as the associated. The crown gear and input gear must be tight almost binding. They will loosen up after a pack or 2 and be perfect! Also for Shock pistons go to Agama they run 17mm shocks same as Hobao. Hope this helps 👍

I finished mid pack most of the time. I'm far away from the track and don't get much practice time. However the truck always finishes and is tunable enough to get it to do what you want. And keep up with track changes. It stays together well and finshed every heat in tact.
I was wondering if you ever do reviews on redcat rcs? And if so, could you do one on the new 1/8 Landslide?
was up Vas, my Ofna Hyper SS (bought it before ofna went out of business ) rear dif had a clicky noise after a year of bashing it, it was the little gear that turns the dif was my issue. the teeth wore down .. also the rims of mine broke 3rd day owning it rofl never broken anything eles in the 3 years of owning it (nitrohouse has alot of parts for this truggy, and upgrades for it)
i had the buggy version of this and it was pretty stout. i agree with your review. have you done and or plan on doing the VRX Octane xl or the other brands that have put out the same car?
Great review, thanks! If you need parts, call up Winnie from S’Wan Model in Singapore. She carries HoBao and has lots of parts to support buyers. All my current R/C (Hyper SS, 10SC and DC-1) are from her. Knowing that she has spares ready gives me confidence to buy HoBao.
Just to add on... The Hyper SS Truggy now (as of Sept 2018) comes with redesigned arms, which seem to cause clearance problems on the front end with the Proline wheels shown in this video. It's ok when going straight, but when turning, the inner ribs of the wheel knocks on the lower suspension arm's pivot. Am gonna see just how much offset I'll need to clear it and use my Badlands...
Can you do review on the new hyper vs. I have one and you will be amazed how good they are. The driveshafts a twice as thick and chassis is really well tuned
Hi vas nice vid,i have the same issue on rim,my first 6s run broke off into 3pieces
Are there any lower suspension arms and bottom parts extension kits....or any other vehicle parts compatibility. I have some src terrain crushers and the lower parts are to short for the 3in tires.
I have the vse which a newer version of the buggy version of this and the wheels break like that too.
Even wit a protek 155 it still has problems steering and savox black still didnt help plus the servo saver is lock tighted and wont break loose when you receive it

Hmm, yes, very tricky question because I like a lot more than just 3 cars. But my personal favourites are the Kraton, Team Magic E6 BES and the Reeper.

I have a hobao hyper sse, i have noticed that the fan of esc It stops working, then starts working again, it's normal? Shouldn't it work all the time?
This or the RTR Serpent ? I've got the Force RC Muckraker 1/8 Truggy and It's been a great Truggy, but I'm wanting another and am still learning about the 1/8 Truggies and want to stay under $600 for now.
4 years now. I still have an eye on the ARR Version. Would you still recommend it, especially against the other RCs on the market? Parts are no Problem in Germany. TY 4 ur good work. Greetings from Germany.
Edit: they changed the Springs to the orange ones. And the Backflips 4s LP are a cheaper Option for tires.

What is the difference between Hyper SST and hyper SSE?
Did HoBao discontinue a lot of their vehicles? I only see the 1/8 Scale Buggy, 1/8 Scale Monster Truck, and the 1/10 Scale Nitro On-Road Car.
What heavy springs fit this truggy front and rear?
What size pinion does it come with and did you up it.

Hi Chris. I think the SSE is the electric and the SST is the nitro? I could be wrong, but I think that's the difference.
I was wanting to get a Kraton, but they are currently unavailable here where I am in Europe. So now I am looking at this. As far as your review, none of your minus points were for anything critical IMO. Setup of an RTR out of the box is never great. Wheels, radio, RTR servos, shock and diff oils, camber etc etc.. are all minor details and not core, fundamental aspects of the car itself. So given all that, is this car as good as a Kraton, not as good, or about the same for all around bashing? I would be adding diff and shock oils, I can change springs, I would be using my own radio, switching out tires/rims for big MT MT4 G3 tires and rims, and installing a better steering servo anyway. This truck costs €100 less than a Kraton(now that Horizon has jacked the price up.. -rolleyes-) One point which is a factor is lack of parts support. In that category the Kraton is clearly better. Great review as always! I have the 10SC and it's a beast. I did go roller, so all my own electrics. Mine has survived 50ft dune jumps, casing hard track jumps, and direct crashes with larger 1/8 vehicles.
I'm guessing some of these hobao cars are old stock from the distributor issues stemming from HPI...so older tech/design, but solid build IMO.
are those 3.8 inch badlands or 2.8?
What would you say is the best out of the box RTR truggy for racing? I am in market and would love some advice. I am also considering a kit, but am unsure I want to spend $1k since I am not actually a racer or anything. Just want to beat my buddies haha
Losi 8ght-E RTR is a great platform to get into racing. The Hyper SS is also very good, but will require more tuning and better tyres.

I don't believe the 8ight-e comes rtr in truggy form, but I am definitely considering the kit. Love all your videos thanks for taking the time to post such thoughtful reviews

if pretty much everything needs to adjusted before you can run it, Hobao sholuld really just make this thing a kit from the start and not 80% or RTR lol...
