    My engagement ring center stone is a 1.65 carat Marquis diamond. I went with an art deco setting, with IGI certified lab diamonds on the whole ring. Because I am one of those people who doesn’t want a natural diamond due to my devotion to marine conservation and human rights. Natural diamond mining isn’t good for the planet. My Marquis diamond came from Brilliant Earth. It cost 5,000.00 and is IGI certified. It’s beautiful! It lists on the certificate that it is VVS1, 1.65 Ct weight, color is G. I couldn’t be more happy with it. Because it is beautiful, has no visible flaws or bow tie effect, and is conflict free. I also wanted one that is not colorless and G is perfect because it is “nearly colorless” but doesn’t feel so “cold” as a colorless diamond does. I am not fond of the “ice” look on colorless diamonds. I like a little bit of warmth. When I lived in England, pretty much all diamond jewelry was IGI certified. I’ve compared my diamond to GIA of equal grading and it’s the same. The cut quality of my center stone is phenomenal, it sparkles beautifully even in dull indoor daylight.

      @OsirisDiamonds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, thank you! I love true hearts, in terms of value, they are the best priced premium cut. This is what I tell my clients. The diamond game is one of slights. The difference between I and H or VS2 or VS1 is so little. Eventually, it may become perceptible. but from each step up, its nominal. Light return is something more noticeable. A premium cut is slightly better in light performance. In the end it makes the strongest impact outside of carat size.

    I automatically assume IGI could be up to 2 grades inferior and adjust the price I am willing to pay accordingly. On smaller stones under 1CT, I don't mind IGI to open up my options. If I am buying anything significant size of 1 CT and above, I would strongly prefer GIA. I think there is a reason jewelers go IGI and that is when a stone is on the edge of not making a higher grade with GIA. I think they sometimes run a stone thru IGI when they didn't first get a grade they hoped for with GIA.

    Reviewed on internet a few years back that IGI legal case against them for upgrading the color of the lab grown diamond, now I like to know as you stated this practice is still going on, how can IGI be illegally stating on the IGI certification of a color if that isn't the true color? How can IGI as you stated then fausalfy and over charge the consumer who reads the IGI report online pays for a lab grown diamond and as you stated gets 1 color done graded? Frustrated by this, we purchased a 3.34 lab grown asscher diamond, F in color and VVS, now I am concerned we received a G in color and over paid?

Ritani offers IGI certified diamonds for 316$ while prices at James Allen start from 800$ for the exact same diamonds also IGI certified. Are there any major differences since they are pretty much the same? Should I overpay for James Allen, or can I go with Ritani?
    Sincerely looking forward to your response!

      The prices on lab grown diamonds do vary a lot. At James Allen you can find bigger lab growns that still are falling of thousands in price. Natural diamonds doesn't have such a big price difference because they have been on the market for such a long time. That's the only risky thing about lab grown diamonds, no one can promise you, that the lab grown diamond you can buy today, would be sold for the half of the price in two years. The market for lab grown diamonds has just started. A little bit the same with natural pearls vs cultured pearls in the past.

    From what I’ve seen, IGI decided to go “new year new me” with lab diamonds and sometimes actually grade them harsher than GIA. But only with labs. Not naturals. Because reasons.

    Question : What is your view on inclusions? Everyone looks for eye clean diamond (lab/earthed). Have heard a view that inclusions creates a unique/personal signature making it know to be yours. Can inclusions ruin/degrade a diamonds overall sparkle/brilliance?

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nothing wrong with inclusions as long as it doesn't effect the diamond beauty. That saying is used by people selling lower clarity, it sounds special. Regardless of clarity, I1 or VVS1 the diamond is unique like a finger print. Si1 are my fav as they are safe in regard to not effecting diamond brilliance.

      I think there are some diamonds with truly special inclusions, but it's usually the exception to the rule. I don't see anything wrong with looking for a Diamond with a special inclusion. They may not be deemed valuable because their measurable characteristics are poor, but they still have something special.

      @OsirisDiamonds  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some offerings come with no cert. They are typically a little less money. To be frank, most stores selling earrings are uncertified. Then you have custom offers were you get earrings that come with certs. Price goes up a bit as the grades are proven.

    Hi! Thanks so much for your videos I’ve learned a lot - I notice that most of the IGI lab diamonds on James Allen don’t have an inclusion diagram as part of the IGI certificate. Would you still be comfortable buying a diamond without seeing the inclusion certificate (I’m looking at VVS1 clarity)?

    • @OsirisDiamonds
      @OsirisDiamonds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Most important is the visual confirmation that your diamond is eye clean. This 20x magnification is key. A vvvs1 needs a microscope to see flaws. I would be 100% comfortable not seeing a diamond plot on a stone like this.

I'm guessing there is an address you have to send it to (registered mail) and then it gets inspected by a person and sent back to you??? How can I be sure my diamond won't get removed and replaced with a lesser quality one in the process? Is it just a matter of trust (of a person I do not know)? Thanks so much if you answer this:)

    The term “certificate”is a misnomer. They are actually “Diamond Reports”. I don’t believe that any lab actually certifies a Diamond. They just report what they have observed.
    LGDs have no production restraints and are steadily dropping in market price. Pretty is not the same as valuable in LGD whereas in natural diamonds it is rare.

      Diamond has a laser engraved cert number on girdle. You can reorder the cert.

    “Industry standard is IGI”
    It depends on what your definition of standard is. I wouldn’t say because someone has the market share they are the “standard”. As you acknowledged GIA have tighter tolerances, which in many uses of the word would be the “standard”

    Your 17K IGI as a over paid 2ct is a VVS2 .... 17k for 2 grades up would seem fair

  • @SSBoll

    IGI is not the standard unless by standard you mean something else. GIA goes through more rigorous testing of the diamond then IGI. So this video is confusing

    I find the lab diamonds to be much bigger and shinier. It’s absolutely crazy.

    This is a biased video. Its not a fact that there is a one grade difference, that's just your opinion.

      Thanks for the comment, Its wildly know in the industry. They are either off a grade in color, clarity or both. You don't need to agree. The diamonds are cheaper when IGI cert, have you ask yourself why. Would you say EGL is strict like GIA? They are 2 grades off, industry knowledge, ask them, they will say they are accurate.

      That’s not a bottle, it’s a very poorly cut ‘K’-grade cylindrical diamond as a prop to remind you not to buy bad diamonds.

    You’re smoking crack if you pay 17k for J colored lab diamond VS anything.

    ALL gemologists (at all institutes) are required to use a 10x magnifier when grading natural diamonds to produce certificates.....
    Pro-Tip: When it gets to the to the retail/wholesale level, the purchaser may use a 30X magnifier to find imperfections the gemologist miss.
    So educate yourself and buy a magnifier for stones, educate yourself and happy shopping.
    I have seen EGL and AGS diamonds rated lower than it should be, and "should" be valued more than a GIA diamond...
    Edit add:. The diamond industry is beyond what I thought of before becoming an "honourary " gemologist. 😂 Basically GIA certificates are a "consumers" diamond... Anything less, is a "sellers" diamond..
    Edit add 2:. I've seen insurance companies value EGL AGS diamonds more than a GIA!
