Greg Burgess (guitars) comments: "What can we say about J.S. Bach that hasn't already been said? Musical genius? Greatest composer to ever walk the earth? It's all been written before, so I'll go to what he means to Allegaeon. I first heard this piece back in 2000, and it has been a dream of mine to arrange this piece for a metal band; it only took 20 years to make it a reality. For anyone who has never worked on Bach before, the learning process is painstaking. Just when you think it's a repeat of a section you've already learned, you're suddenly in a new key, or there is a variation that totally throws a wrench in your muscle memory. In short, recording this piece was the most challenging thing I've ever attempted in this band. And I'm insanely proud of it. Crank it loud and get lost in it."
Riley McShane (vocals) adds: "Originally, these songs were part of the first draft track-listing of 'Apoptosis'. In fact, this alternate track-listing - including these two songs - ended up being the running order for the 'Apoptosis' LP. However, over a year after the initial release, we decided to put the songs out in a digital format for everyone to enjoy, just in time for the holiday season. Who needs Trans-Siberian Orchestra when you have Allegaeon covering Bach?"
About Bach's Concerto in D minor from wikipedia:
The Harpsichord Concerto in D minor, BWV 1052, is a concerto for harpsichord and Baroque string orchestra by Johann Sebastian Bach. In three movements, marked Allegro, Adagio and Allegro, it is the first of Bach's harpsichord concertos, composed between 1738 and 1739.
About "In Flanders Fields" from wikipedia:
"In Flanders Fields" is a war poem in the form of a rondeau, written during the First World War by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae. He was inspired to write it on May 3, 1915, after presiding over the funeral of friend and fellow soldier Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, who died in the Second Battle of Ypres. According to legend, fellow soldiers retrieved the poem after McCrae, initially dissatisfied with his work, discarded it. "In Flanders Fields" was first published on December 8 of that year in the London magazine Punch.

What you did here was amazing!
Thank you kind sir/people! Will send it to my dad who loves classical music, to see if i get vitriol or praise from my boomer father!🤘
TSO is awesome. And I’d argue Beethoven was the greatest composer ever. But you know. Opinions.
Vivaldi, first move.ent of winter!
This is one of the best pieces ever! I'm so tempted to post tagging Val from SF Ballet who did the ballet Lamberene...Bach with traditional African music. Here, Val...can you choreograph this please? :D
Still kicks ass 300 years later

Just another proof that Bach was the first legitimate metalhead in existence.
Great arrangment guys, you really did justice to the piece!
Vivaldi was the first. Bach followed suit. Bach was great, though.
@@tinbanger66 Bach's music is way less homogenous than Vivaldi's music though. Also you can go even further back to composers like Buxtehude.
@@tinbanger66 Marais was earlier - th-cam.com/video/Bng6P118R48/w-d-xo.html hang around for it, it goes hard.
It's really just the baroque style in general, bach, Vivaldi, beethoven, etc. You can really hear it with bach when does his runs though.
This is not trying to be epic like much symphonic metal. This combines baroque and death metal just in a brilliant way.
Absolutely agree. The arrangement shows a maturity beyond the grandstanding most symphonic metal goes for when they play Bach.
@@TheZigzagman Most symphonic metal has terrible orchestration imo, and a 3-5 piece metal band is roughly the same grouping of instruments that were actually used for the baroque and classical chamber music metal bands like to draw on and it sounds tighter, cleaner, heavier, and overall better to just arrange it for a metal band instead of drenching it in syrupy layers and layers of extra unneeded orchestration that's usually bland and hamfisted. What this band is doing here is doing this shit properly for a change and I fucking love it. It's basically 80s shred with blast beats at this point, which is dope.

Truly impressive. This should open up a whole new appreciation for J.S. Bach to people who otherwise may have never gave it much notice. Thanks for keeping this amazing music alive.
Classical is just metal before electricity
See, cold hard proof that metal and classical music were meant for each other.

For those curious, there are two interpretations of this piece on TH-cam that are absolutely perfect.
The first by the Netherlands Bach Society with a small baroque like ensemble, using gut strings and everything.
The second on the harpsichord by
Jean Rondeau.
Search for BWV 1052.
Well, there are actually "three" interpretations of this piece on TH-cam that are absolutely perfect. To find the third one, just search for "Allegaeon - Concerto in Dm" on youtube.
This is the best christmas gift ever. Well produced neo classical death metal without lyrics. Just my specific kind of tea.
In Flanders Fields gives me that kind of Opeth vibe that I thought only Opeth could provide, damn
right?!
Amazing music like this doesn't need any video to distract one's focus from what's really going on instrumentally.
Masterpiece turned melodic death metal, it's just what I needed to hear this beautiful night
Awesome! More of this please! I still waiting for Shostakovich technical death metal
Beautiful absolutely wonderful in the fullest sense of the word. This is sending me off the precipice of all I can and wish to be. Since I was a teenager I wished to transpose the master works of the past into modernity in such a manner as you have. It is not until listening to this that I have had the realization that I am not all I can be nor should be. That being said I need to rejuvenate my love for the guitar and this is the perfect catalyst I need to bring that to reality. Truly awe inspiring keep up the fantastic and wonderful work
I agree with you on that, this may very well invigorate my love for guitar once more, a more permanent love for my instrument this time around.
Amazing piece, my friends. Sort of wish it wasn't butchered by 15 ads, but watchagonnado....
Watched 'em all. Want them to keep going, but don't want to give a dollar a month to the thousand subs i have. I watch the commercials!
Bachllegaeon! 🖤🤘🏻
ALLEGAEON!!!!! I love the direction! Are we going to get an entire original work as an album? That would be phenomenal!!!!! Love your work fellas, this is a great idea. I was not loving the classic rock covers, though your take on YES was interesting... I find an original work in the vein of a concerto more interesting still! Amazing
Ask Michael and you'd get your answer. Hahahaha
Pure eargasm. Bravo! [Imaging standing ovations here]
This has graced my ears since day one of apoptosis, its on the vinyl. MASTERPIECE!!!
Standing O. Bravo! Now.............why isn't this band getting more attention?!?!?!
Oh my god, this makes me happy. Was not expecting the fully-acoustic sections.
God I love this band
Challenging as hell! this is the kind of thing that every band should be doing now. can't wait for the next album.
Always something spectacular from these guys! Keep up the good work!
Bach would be abssolutely proud!!!!!!!!!! Love You guys!!!!!!
This is exactly in my head when I play classical concerto and think: "what if classical music played in death metal version." Bravo🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely brilliant and beautiful. Thank you!!!!!
Greg has taken full control of the band, its all neoclassical tech death from now on
Are there even any neoclassical tech death bands?
@@dannyb230894 Check Symbolik out. Corridors of the Consumed is a great song by them. And Le Serment de Tsion by First Fragment.
Obscura, Necrophagist, Inferi, and Spawn Of Possession all have classical influences.
@@dannyb230894 Check out the entire artist roster of The Artisan Era. Save for one or two bands on there, quite a lot are heavily neo-classical inspired; you'll hear that in the riffs and solos. Begin with these four bands : Symbolik, Inferi, Flub and Stortregn
@@sartajhanspal5604 Thanks will give em a listen
Going to use this the next time I need to remind someone that metal is the most baroque-influenced modern genre outside of neoclassical.
That or show Yngwie doing literally anything.
@@levergatRapha lol you elitists are pathetic, respecting the roots of metal is not metal for grandmas.
@@levergatRapha I'm a big fan of Corpo Mente, Igorrr, OxxO XooX, Ricin, Whourkr, etc. But that's not exactly where I would start a newcomer.
@@levergatRapha Corpo Mente is cool, but it isn't metal. Besides, your whining is super stupid. Learn to criticize, you're just bitching.
...and shostakowitch ....?
Sorry to be nit-picky, but this is Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto No. 1, BWV 1052. It is not Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins, BWV 1043 (as listed in the description). I realize that Bach himself arranged many of his harpsichord concertos for different instruments, but the “Double Concerto” (BWV 1043) was arranged as a Concerto for Two Harpsichords in C minor, BWV 1062.
Great catch dude. Fixed.
@@gregburgess4211 Thanks. This is an awesome arrangement. It's great to be able to buy and download this from Bandcamp for those of us who don't have the means for vinyl.

I wonder if the full album will feature tracks with vocals.
Yes, it will be sung in a Bach cantata like stile "The passion on Riley, according to Greg".
Sipping Scotch neat, pinky out
And these stupid ads had to interrupt our good vibes for this awesome shit. Fucking aye, this country is already making trillions of dollars and they just want more smh
Fucking exquisite!

Please.
Everybody name dropping Bach while this clearly has more of a 4 seaon from vivaldi vibe to it
Fucking TH-cam shoving commercials into the middle of the song pisses me off
Bach must have gotten so much tail.
Harpsichord - which BWV is this?
It's BWV1052! ;)
And here's four of my favourite renditions of it:
a) for cembalo: th-cam.com/video/XcsfDxojdV8/w-d-xo.html
b) for piano: th-cam.com/video/osg_WmeLxQk/w-d-xo.html
c) for e-guitar (first YT rendition I was aware of): th-cam.com/video/EFNFfaWyH_o/w-d-xo.html
d) for e-guitar (a truly artistic rendition): th-cam.com/video/SP4-gHutUYw/w-d-xo.html
NJOY!
I want to like this more but I can’t help but feel it’s a bit passé, having come up on Symphony X’s albums in the 90s.
It’s a Bach cover.
the drums sadly are overpowering the other instruments, besides that i love it. a metal version of my favourite bach piece BWV1052.
poorly overcompressed that drums
Funny thing the actual piece minus the drums is much faster
Depends on who plays it.
Jean rondeau
I was unable to fully enjoy this do to TH-cam's constant need to ruin things with constant ads.
Right as I read the last word of this statement, "CHROMECAST GOOGLE TV".
