@@Lalou971. This is just an assumption so take it with a grain of salt, but I’m guessing that somebody was using the house as a shelter from time to time and they were extremely paranoid. The broken glass could be used to make footsteps more audible as walking on glass does make quite some sound. And the trap, well, that one is self-explanatory. But I don’t think that the glass is supposed to be a distraction so the person doesn’t see the trap, but as some sort of an alarm system so the squatter living there could hear if somebody goes up the stairs. But who knows.
I'm certain that the glas on the steps was placed deliberately so that an intruder would prefer to take a large step onto the third step, activating the trip-wire while being focused on the glas.
IKR, I was so scared for Jared; felt the tension of being trapped and trying to stay hidden as if I were right there with him, then he got caught. But he did his best to hide his fear and deflect the situation by occasionally laughing at the man's far too casual threats, even when he had to sit in his car. It felt like a short horror film, to be honest, complete with a twist in the epilogue. Thank God those other two kids were okay.
It would make sense for a man to say that in defense of his own property, to scare intruders. But the vigilante guy is not allowed to handcuff someone without being an officer, nor just shoot without probable cause. I remember as a kid exploring abandoned buildings and never being afraid but as an adult knowing all the horrible stuff that could have happened I get chills thinking about it. I was just lucky nothing like this ever happened.

I am the OWNER of an abandoned building and would NEVER consider using deadly force on someone inside it at all, let alone simply exploring it. Usually the people exploring are way more afriad of you (the owner) than you are of them.

I don't keep track of anything that's stolen because I could care less. The only thing that gives me the creeps is the fact that someone is trespassing, but the no trespassing signs I've nailed to the abandoned house keep most people away. I'm an urban explorer as well, and have made it a point (like most urban explorers) to treat an abandoned place as if someone was still living there.

Yeah, the last video is as fake as can be. There are farms and private roads and places in the middle of nowhere where armed guys do sit in cars all night to confront anyone who comes there, but this particular video was staged and fake. A lot of farms and secluded places in California have guards just sitting along private roads or behind fences to stop any intruders, and in certain counties, intruders never come back and no trace of them is ever found.

Except wasn't he loaded up with less lethal according to the vid, i suppose still assault with a deadly weapon. Also, castle doctrine or not 'lying in wait' makes it illegal to shoot someone even if they are trespassing.

I don't know if it ever says what state this occurs in within the USA, but property owners have the right to protect their property with deadly force. Given the nature of the building, it would not be surprising if gangs, drug runners or other potentially violent/illegal groups tried to utilize the property. If the trespasser (potential opponent) is possibly armed, it is best to meet them whilst armed.

I stopped 20 years ago when my friends and I were robbed by a dude with a gun and several others that had (I shit you not) various medieval weapons. They tried to make us go to the roof of the place we were and I thought they were gonna kill us, so I said “listen, if we’re up there, we can see where you go when you leave”. Somehow it worked, but I really thought they might’ve just shot/beat us all to death on the spot. No more ghost hunting after that.

If you want people to stay off your property, you don't spray paint "use of deadly force" on a wall. You put up neat, clear, consistent signage all over the place that say "TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT". The justification for using deadly force under a castle doctrine usually relies on the immediate threat of harm, and that threat is NONEXISTENT when someone's running away. Even if this WAS his property, you can still potentially catch a false imprisonment charge for holding a trespasser hostage. This doesn't seem to be the case here, he should absolutely have gotten a felony aggravated false imprisonment charge, given it involved violence and the threat thereof. When I was 12 I remember hearing about a guy not far from where I lived, exploring an abandoned house and dying. He fell through the floor into the basement which had several pieces of rebar sticking up out of the concrete that he landed on. It pierced him straight through his stomach and he laid there and died. It was so sad. For reasons like that and others, it's always safest to bring someone with you while exploring.
The urban explorer with the dog might've encountered squatters/homeless people who were afraid that they're police or someone with bad intentions. Not gonna lie, the dog running up to them under the bed is kinda cute, like "oh! People! :3" and then running off. The person under the bed didn't seem like they wanted to attack the two, but not knowing a strangers intention can be pretty stressful.
I had a good chuckle when the narrator said "There was a man HIDING under the bed". I mean, it's not really hiding if your entire butt isn't even under the bed.

The moment he said to enter the car would have been the moment to run or fight. I live near Wichita and can confirm the first video is 100% real. Ken Thomas was convicted of two counts of aggravated battery for shooting the two teens (they didn’t die, he used pellets) and is currently living under probation, which if he doesn’t adhere, then he goes to prison. I figured “stand your ground” would apply here since it was his property but the jury didn’t rule that way. For the record, the factory was his & the property was as well but it had been abandoned years ago. Chilling stuff 😅

That's in Kansas? Didn't realize Kansas was a stand your ground state. I'm from the South so I can tell you unless the kids presented an immediate deadly threat where it was necessary for the owner to defend himself with force this law doesn't apply. Mere trespassing would never apply. The kids would have to have a deadly weapon or ganged up on the dude beating him or something like that. The fact that he told the cops he was going to shoot them for trespassing proves the act of shooting them does not fall under the stand your ground law. He was shooting threat or no threat to his person. Hopefully this makes sense. Thankfully he only had pellets in the shotgun but still. He could have hit an artery or anything like that & someone could have died.

It's incredibly easy just to not break into other people's property, so as long as the boundary marks are clearly defined by a fence, people who are willingly breaking laws trying to sneak onto the property should be treated as criminals.

I know other states have removed protections because they'd rather support criminals than their citizens, but fortunately many states still protect their own citizens first
That first clip is the perfect example why you shouldn't go alone to such abandoned buildings, you sometimes just can't tell what is gonna going to occur or you can't even predict mostly, honestly that encounter with that armed man was pretty disturbing to say the least but atleast he made it out safe, I would never go to these places again in my opinion. In the last one they reacted as bad as they could. Like, the land owner literally invited them to leave, there was no need to stay quiet and start running as if you're hiding something. All they had to do was to calmly speak themselves up and tell that they were going to leave
this is exactly what I thought. it was an honest mistake, had they stood there cool and talked to the owner and said "hey man we were told about this (whatever they were looking for) and they told us it was on public property back in this area I am certain it would have been a lot less of an issue. The guy driving up knew they were there already and, the way the 2 recording were acting made them super suspicious.

Unfortunately there are some deaths that are extremely unfair, cementing my belief that there is no god. Like for example that guy who was slowly roasted in an industrial oven, or the other that was... ummm "incorporated" into a ship's main engine after being locked inside a maintenance space, or the one doing free-diving who realized mid-jump at 1000 m from the ground that he had forgot to equip his parachute, while he was recording the whole thing. All those are cases I've watched vids about. Lots of people are trying to defend him, but as someone in the US who lives in a state where it's legal to shoot trespassers, he still admitted to three felonies during the recording. Assault with a deadly weapon, Attempted Murder, Castle Doctrine does not apply if someone is running away (And actually there's another felony for shooting someone in the back), False imprisonment, Kidnapping, to name a few. Owning the property wouldn't excuse you from these crimes.

It doesn't matter what the individual state laws are, it's the same for all of them. The second you shoot them in the back, it's no longer a valid legal defense. Doesn't matter if you try to claim it's "them running away to get a better position and regroup", you'll be charged. You're free to believe otherwise, but you will be charged no matter your beliefs, if you shoot someone in the back and try to use castle doctrine as the excuse. Even in Texas, that has some of the most loose rules with their castle doctrine (Which also doesn't allow it to extend outside of the building).

@@Lalou971. This is just an assumption so take it with a grain of salt, but I’m guessing that somebody was using the house as a shelter from time to time and they were extremely paranoid. The broken glass could be used to make footsteps more audible as walking on glass does make quite some sound. And the trap, well, that one is self-explanatory. But I don’t think that the glass is supposed to be a distraction so the person doesn’t see the trap, but as some sort of an alarm system so the squatter living there could hear if somebody goes up the stairs. But who knows.

IKR, I was so scared for Jared; felt the tension of being trapped and trying to stay hidden as if I were right there with him, then he got caught. But he did his best to hide his fear and deflect the situation by occasionally laughing at the man's far too casual threats, even when he had to sit in his car. It felt like a short horror film, to be honest, complete with a twist in the epilogue. Thank God those other two kids were okay.

@@Ookkonen1 exactly! I'm not sure how many urban explorers have gone into the place on my property, but nothing major is broken and the only person who's vandalized the place is Mother Nature. I don't keep track of anything that's stolen because I could care less. The only thing that gives me the creeps is the fact that someone is trespassing, but the no trespassing signs I've nailed to the abandoned house keep most people away. I'm an urban explorer as well, and have made it a point (like most urban explorers) to treat an abandoned place as if someone was still living there.

Yeah, the last video is as fake as can be. There are farms and private roads and places in the middle of nowhere where armed guys do sit in cars all night to confront anyone who comes there, but this particular video was staged and fake. A lot of farms and secluded places in California have guards just sitting along private roads or behind fences to stop any intruders, and in certain counties, intruders never come back and no trace of them is ever found.

I don't know if it ever says what state this occurs in within the USA, but property owners have the right to protect their property with deadly force. Given the nature of the building, it would not be surprising if gangs, drug runners or other potentially violent/illegal groups tried to utilize the property. If the trespasser (potential opponent) is possibly armed, it is best to meet them whilst armed.

I stopped 20 years ago when my friends and I were robbed by a dude with a gun and several others that had (I shit you not) various medieval weapons. They tried to make us go to the roof of the place we were and I thought they were gonna kill us, so I said “listen, if we’re up there, we can see where you go when you leave”. Somehow it worked, but I really thought they might’ve just shot/beat us all to death on the spot. No more ghost hunting after that.

If you want people to stay off your property, you don't spray paint "use of deadly force" on a wall. You put up neat, clear, consistent signage all over the place that say "TRESPASSERS WILL BE SHOT". And you don't shoot people who run, wtf? The justification for using deadly force under a castle doctrine usually relies on the immediate threat of harm, and that threat is NONEXISTENT when someone's running away. Even if this WAS his property, you can still potentially catch a false imprisonment charge for holding a trespasser hostage. This doesn't seem to be the case here, he should absolutely have gotten a felony aggravated false imprisonment charge, given it involved violence and the threat thereof. He should have done 5 years and/or a $10k fine at LEAST. Plus he seems to be a repeat offender, so wtf is wrong with their police?

When I was 12 I remember hearing about a guy not far from where I lived, exploring an abandoned house and dying. He fell through the floor into the basement which had several pieces of rebar sticking up out of the concrete that he landed on. It pierced him straight through his stomach and he laid there and died. It was so sad. For reasons like that and others, it's always safest to bring someone with you while exploring.

The urban explorer with the dog might've encountered squatters/homeless people who were afraid that they're police or someone with bad intentions. Not gonna lie, the dog running up to them under the bed is kinda cute, like "oh! People! :3" and then running off.
The person under the bed didn't seem like they wanted to attack the two, but not knowing a strangers intention can be pretty stressful.

The moment he said to enter the car would have been the moment to run or fight. I live near Wichita and can confirm the first video is 100% real. Ken Thomas was convicted of two counts of aggravated battery for shooting the two teens (they didn’t die, he used pellets) and is currently living under probation, which if he doesn’t adhere, then he goes to prison. I figured “stand your ground” would apply here since it was his property but the jury didn’t rule that way. For the record, the factory was his & the property was as well but it had been abandoned years ago. Chilling stuff 😅

I'm from the South so I can tell you unless the kids presented an immediate deadly threat where it was necessary for the owner to defend himself with force this law doesn't apply. Mere trespassing would never apply. The kids would have to have a deadly weapon or ganged up on the dude beating him or something like that. The fact that he told the cops he was going to shoot them for trespassing proves the act of shooting them does not fall under the stand your ground law. He was shooting threat or no threat to his person. Hopefully this makes sense. Thankfully he only had pellets in the shotgun but still. He could have hit an artery or anything like that & someone could have died.

You're free to believe otherwise, but you will be charged no matter your beliefs, if you shoot someone in the back and try to use castle doctrine as the excuse. Even in Texas, that has some of the most loose rules with their castle doctrine (Which also doesn't allow it to extend outside of the building).
