Camping overnight in the Appalachian woods without any means of self defence sounds like a bad idea
The amount of mrballen stories about the appalachian trail convinces me its just a portal to hell in disguise😂
Yeah, I would rather only cover like 10 miles per day if it meant I sleep somewhere safe.
I live in the Appalachian mountains. Going into unknown parts of the woods all night without a gun is basically just asking to get killed. Beyond the normal predators like bears, coyotes, and mountain lions, there are drug labs, pot fields, and distilleries everywhere. The people who run them have zero issue shooting at strangers who come upon them, for fear they’ll tell authorities about the location. Bring weapons if you plan to camp or hunt out here. Lots of them, if possible. This is not a place to be a pacifist.
I watched wrong turn
@@heathermillsphantomlimb9314 Well if your hunting, you're going to have a weapon.
Screaming "I see you" in the woods in the middle of the night is NOT a good prank bro.
i would have died of heart attack and that guy was so calm
It'd be even more messed up to say, "we see you" to imply that there's more than one person.

Not that I wouldn't shit my pants if I heard it, but I'm pretty sure that one was just an animal.
@@asmallcat Or teens sneaking to the woods to drink.
That first example is clearly a case of psychosis. The delusions, incoherent writing and bizarre behaviour are all strong signs that this guy became psychotic while in jail and is now homeless.
My mind went to psychosis as soon as i saw the writing aswell
Yea, pausing a bit to read some of the writings it’s …. definitely someone unwell. Mentioning Trump, Obama, hangman’s gallows, being in Alabama, powers that be, etc.
I hope whoever they are has been found and was able to receive help. Considering that rate at how that happens, it doesn’t seem likely …but it’d be nice to hold out hope that it has for themselves and everyone else’s sake in that area.
I feel like it was all just set up by the dude filming.
especially since he mentioned being in solitary confinement which is notorious for driving prisoners to psychosis and general insanity. reading the writings was deeply unsettling. so nonsensical, full of conspiracy talk. most definitely someone who’s mentally unwell. i just hope there’s someone out there who cares about them that can help them, sounds like they desperately need it
@@nateorius i get your suspicion but tbh it seems very real. i’m no expert, especially since im not from the area, but the Appalachian is know for being a deeply poverty-stricken area so i frankly wouldn’t be surprised if all this was the result of a homeless individual who developed untreated psychosis while in jail. especially the dead duck. i find that incredibly hard to fake. i dont think the average person is willing to kill a duck just for some internet stunt
As a woman, I would NEVER go hiking or camping alone. Especially without a weapon. I was working at a canoe adventure/campground 3 miles down a gravel road & 10 miles on pavement to a tiny town. It was 4th of July & I was alone at the office at the campground. Everyone else was on the river & my boyfriend coming back from putting last group on the river. Two guys who looked like they popped out of deliverance came in, one on dirt bike & other on ATV with a rifle strapped above the handle bars , while I was out and up above them on the porch. They were shirtless, drunk, sucking on bottles of whiskey & being threatening & belligerent to me. Asked if I was alone, I said no, wait right here. I came right back out with my 12 gauge shotgun with high brass shells. I fired it once over their heads & screamed get the F..k out before I shoot you!! They took off & I called the sheriff. My boyfriend got back in time to find me talking to him. They didn’t come back & I was never alone out there unarmed again. There are some scary people way out in the hills & woods. Be aware!!
I'm so glad you handled it well glory to self defense weaponry for sure
Stay safe out there, always have a weapon if Ur ever going to the Woods. Animals and, more dangerously, humans are out there

The problem with the woods in the dark, is you can't see that much, even with the torch. But everything else sees you holding it.
Red light not that visible. Better for stealth use.
I have been able to rely in my scotopic vision when camping alone. If i need a torch, i use a masked (red permanent marker) on/off only, with a switch that allows you an intermittent press, without having to fully click it on and off. Once you turn on a bright torch, your scotopic vision resets, and it takes awhile for it to come back again.

Transients definitely don't just stay in the cities. There are a lot of mentally ill people out in the woods. Even way, way out in the woods.
Sadly, this is only one reason why so many of them go missing and are never seen again. Untreated psychosis is no match for hypothermia, wild animals, starvation/thirst, and falling off heights.
Absolutely! I’ve been a psych nurse for a decade and work with schizophrenic patients full time. I have no doubt he’s schizophrenic. They’re not as dangerous as Hollywood wants to make them seem; however, when their ramblings get into paranoid delusions, be careful. It takes no more than a second for them to decide “you’re one of them!” and you get attacked. Unfortunately, the writings this guy left (I zoomed in and read some) were paranoid delusions.
@@paulastiles5507 that's very sad. To think that they could live pretty normal lives if they got treatment makes it even more depressing.
Yeah, as soon as I saw that part of this video that's immediately what popped into my head. Brother is schizophrenic, and the few times he lived with me, or near me, it was the same deal. Tons of weird drawings and writings-and by god, don't get him talking or you'll be stuck there for two hours. Doesn't surprise me that this person is transient either: My brother preferred being homeless sometimes.

I’m 48 years old and have never been camping. Having watched this I can say with all confidence that I’m not going to start now.

I've seen quite a few camping youtubers and I came up to the conclussion that they've done so so much that they just feel really really safe wherever they go. The chances of getting into trouble seem to be really really really slim, like almost on the impossible side. It's obvious it'll freak them out whenever somethings seems to be happing, even if it leads to nothing.
I’ve spent over 250 nights in tents, many of that on the AT (Appalachian Trail). After a while you just get really comfortable in the woods. 99.9% of the time, nothing abnormal happens. And you generally still have a camping knife on you for the odd encounter.
And it's crazy that some national parks with big predators outright ban them.

Guy was smart to leave. He knew the potential danger. Sure enough, trail cam was stolen. The guy did come back
why leave trail cam , guy must have seen it in the morning when it was light and assumed the camper left it by mistake
that wasn't necessarily dangerous at all. drug abuse or homelessness has eroded this guy's social sensibilities, so he didn't say goodbye. then he comes back and his new friend is gone, having 'accidentally' left a valuable piece of equipment which he probably took the ethically dubious but understandable decision to take and sell for drugs/booze/supplies money. he didn't act violently or threateningly at any point.

After that a tent deep in the woods, now I would've never approached ANYONE like that creepy dude did to Gazz and I did try to make my campsite as obvious as possible if you got close enough to see it.
Some people did approach me though, and I was cool with that, then I would just explain my situation and some actually came back with food and water..
Now I did have some weird encounters with other people that did wander the forest at night and one time I was watching TH-cam on my phone inside my tent I heard some dude yell "we see you, now we know where you are" that creeped me out a bit, but I pulled myself together went out there and yelled back "come on then" and some other bad words, then I could hear them running away while talking to each other..

@@zaneflockton6116 Then bring a knife, some mace, even an air-horn to disorient? Its cowardly to assume you will never ever be in a situation where you'll have to harm someone or something else to defend yourself. Always be prepared and adapt to your environment.
Some people live in their own world where all people are nice and harmless, and never intend harm. They live with their head in the sand and "don't want to live in paranoia." They never take precautions. They never suspect sketchy people. They never think defensively. When I was in college, I had met many people like that. They grew up in sheltered upper middle class homes, lovely neighborhoods, and have never seen the poor side of town. I grew up in the barrios of Los Angeles, served in the army, and own a number of firearms. I don't go to any questionable places. But if I have to, I am armed.
Even in the US there are a lot of places where it’s illegal to possess firearms like most state parks, government buildings, places that serve alcohol, etc.
But yeah, there are alternative weapons like knives, pepper spray, bats, bows, crossbows, a hammer… you can actually even buy ”pulsefire” flamethrowers.

@@nickmaiorino4737people think he has schizophrenia
Someone who survived a kidnapping attempt here: Best thing to do besides trusting your gut and leaving before anything happens, because it's absolutely right and someone is watching you, is tell them you're recording them- LIVESTREAMING them. The possibility their face will be difficult or impossible to wipe from the internet is enough to make a lot of people back down. They don't want to be tied to whatever they were going to do to you, so they may flee before they can do any crime in the first place. This is giving them the option to definitely get caught, or leave you alone now. If they believe police are already on their way, there's more than one of you, they're currently live and being streamed, all the better. But rather than just empty bluff, you may want to also stream, download, record, call police, factually as well. Because on the off chance they continue their attack, someone will be on the way or evidence will be captured.
Never, ever, tell them you're alone, vulnerable, or scared.
And don’t say “I’m leaving don’t follow me”💀
How did you escape darling? Hope you were unharmed?
This advice is all well and good but me and a buddy of mine (we’re both grown men) were walking through the woods one time and a man who was all on his own, dressed head to toe in grey, a black balaclava and gloves (with his hood up) stalked us for 10 minutes. With a bit of quick thinking, we managed to haul ass out of there but the point is, saying you’re “livestreaming” doesn’t really work if they’re wearing a balaclava (which a lot of halfway competent criminals with bad intentions will be).
Live streaming does not work out in the middle of the wilderness. Lot of places still do not have any sort of reception.

And also, He doesn't want you to go to Hell, but He wants you to go to Heaven with Him but you have to be Saved. How do I get Saved you might ask? Here are the steps below on how to get Saved!
1. Believe that God sent His Son
(Jesus) to die on a cross for your sins and that He rose again from the dead 3 days later.
2. Confess to Jesus that you are a sinner and ask forgiveness for your sins and Turn away from your sins. If you sin again after asking forgiveness of that sin, ask forgiveness again and try not to do it ever again. Jesus will forgive you!
3. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and your life and for Him to be your Lord and Savior forever.
4. Build a Personal Relationship with Jesus by Praying and Reading the Bible daily and Live for Him Forever.
I'm Praying for you and you are loved

I could imagine the "I see you" encounter at around 10:42 is caused by coincidence by two campers camping close by and they both get creeped out by each other. Screaming "I see you" is a great way to let the other person know that they are seen and if they had any ill intentions they now can't be very sneaky about it as they know they are spotted.

Are the Appalachians that notorious? I'm not from America that's why I'm asking.
@@raho500 They have a bit of a reputation, at least in many parts of the US. They're a weird mix of running right through a bunch of human civilization, while also being remote realtive to the surrounding areas because of the terrain. But its also a massive area that will inevitably have some bad stories. With tenacity one could take the Appalachian Trail all the way from Georgia to Maine - it's over 2,190 miles (roughly 3,500 km) long. If someone on the East Coast of the US is trying to get away from society or avoid scrutiny, the Appalachian Mountain Range isnt a bad spot to be.
@@raho500 The Appalachians and trails that go through them are in reality about as safe as any other hiking trail, they have remote sections and not so remote sections, people do go missing but it's only something like 6 per year. But there is a lot of folklore and urban legends about cryptids and monsters that live in them and prey upon unwary hikers and campers.
My dad, uncle, and their best friend are big outdoorsmen. Some of the most terrifying stories I've heard are their times deep in the Rockies, Appalachian trails, and some of the national forests (uncle was a ranger in his 20s). Nah bro I’d shit myself
This exact thing happened to me and my buddy and it was every bit as terrifying as you’d expect. We were walking through a forest trying to find our way to the main road, when I realised a man wearing a baclava and gloves was following us. He was so covered up in his sleek all-grey outfit that I couldn’t even tell you what race he was. Best way to describe it is that he was dressed exactly how you’d dress if you needed to get away with a crime and couldn’t be identified. I am an avid backcountry camper. I have hiked the Appalachian in its entirety. I have run into a lot of great people who I keep in touch with years later, but I have also found myself in some seriously sketchy situations. Whenever I go camping or hiking, I am armed. It's unlikely that you will ever need it, but I won't go without a firearm.
Tell us about the sketchy situations please
@rasizmandal1037 I think that the weirdest that has happened was that a few friends and I were hiking several miles from the closest established camp grounds and it was starting to get dark and we were getting ready to set up camp. A friend heard some weird whispering and noises nearby and alerted us so we all listened and looked around. There was a woman crawling around covered in dirt whispering random words and when she saw we could see her she stood straight up and said she was looking for her campsite and got lost.
We broke down our camp and hiked her the 4 or 5 miles back to the campgrounds, in the dark, with her rambling crazy stuff to herself the whole way. She was probably high, and had left her friends to use the bathroom and apparently couldn't find her way back to the campsite. We reunited her with her friends and stayed in the campgrounds for the night.
Probably the scariest was backcountry camping when I was alone, in the mountains. I decided not to set up a tent and was sleeping in a sleeping bag outside near my fire. I woke up to some sounds and didn't think much about it since I had a fire but there was nobody for miles. I kept hearing sounds getting closer and opened my eyes just a bit and there were 3 wolves poking around my feet, very skidishly, but obviously very hungry and I was in a sleeping bag and couldn't quickly get up. I kept my hand on my pistol in the bag but just didn't move and they eventually went away.
I have also been hiking with my dog and came across 2 bear cubs and immediately froze because they were 15 to 20 feet away and I didn't see mom. Mom was behind us and we walked by and didn't even see her. I fired 2 warning shots and mom and cubs took off and so did my dog and I.
