Stars on 54 was a supergroup formed specifically to cover Gordon Lightfoot’s classic "If You Could Read My Mind" for the soundtrack of the 1998 film 54. The group consisted of powerhouse vocalists Ultra Naté, Amber, and Jocelyn Enriquez, who brought a vibrant disco and dance flavor to this timeless song. Gordon Lightfoot and his original - is one of the greatest ever recorded.
Stars on 45 is a whole series of covers....
It may just be my age (73) but I like original MUCH better 🙂
Waaaay better G L F Them 70s ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,90s my hairry ASS LOL
1970 Gordon Lightfoot. Canadian Legend.
EVERY BODY LOVES TO COPPIE THEM 70s LOL
Take the original any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Nothing against Disco, pop dance tunes. But the lyrics and feel just don't translate.
Love the channel though.
Try to watch every day 😃👍
Definitely watch the movie Studio 54. It is based on the actual club and Steve Rubell. There are also some good documentaries on it.
I can't think of anything good about taking a great song and turning it into a soulless disco mess that sounds like the rhythm coming out of a kid's toy instrument.
Was waiting for both of you to get up and 💃 🕺
Don’t get why they took a song with this much genuine emotion and turned it into a typical dance song, seems other songs would have translated better.
It's a great disco song! Yr nuttttttts
@@michaelasay8587any song could have been plugged into that exact same typical dance beat, but with lyrical content that better matched it. But dance on! 👍🏻
I just love this revision
I'll pass. You can call me an old fart I'll take Gordon's original.
I love the reference to paperback novels that kind of drugstores sell back then when the song was written paperBacs were sold everywhere. I got to meet the person that invented the paperback. makes me sad thinking how everyone used to read so much books were like $.25 new
Bet you both fance good! Especially the guy!!
A good song can cross genres and generations. Check out Elwood for as different take on Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown"
I have a powerful Christian/Country music song I want you to react to Ricky Van Shelton Don't Overlook Salvation . This next artist is Keith Whitley was married to Lorrie Morgan from 1986 until his death 1989 from alcoholism . His best songs were Don't Close Your Eyes , When You Say Nothing At All , I'm No Stranger To The Rain , My Miami My Amy .
Mehhhhhh. Why don't these younger generation of singers/artists ever come up with any quality ORIGINAL SONGS themselves that become classics? They always seem to discofy or "rappify" classic songs. COME UP WITH SOME ORIGINAL CLASSICS. WHERE DID ALL THE SONGWRITERS GO?
Beyonce and Taylor Swift come to mind. I like Foo Fighters-they do their own material (plus some excellent covers.) Lady Gaga is a songwriter, as is Pink.
@parsleyqueen
Obviously I'm making a general statement. The few standout singer songwriters of the last 25 years are the exceptions which prove the rule. And sorry, but Taylor Swift's tunes are shallow relationship songs that are not memorable to me.
You guys should react to Stars On 45 or Starsound as it was called in America, the Beatles one is awesome
I am glad I never heard this version before.
No, no, no. Stick with Gordon Lightfoot's rendition. This definitely lacks the gravitas the song is meant to have.
As a former dj i loved this version….it got people off their chairs, no shame in liking both versions..
In 1980 Viola Wills did a Disco version of that song ....
WOW!!!! How blasphemous!!!!! Some "musicians" should really be ashamed of themselves.
That's a great comment. I couldn't think of the word when I wrote my comment. Blasphemous is correct.
I think the Bee Bop music kind of cheapened the song.
Studio 54 was a cllub in NYC and I am assuming they tried to recapture Viola Davis' disco rendition of the song.
Well I hope Gordon Lightfoot made a lot of money off this but his is a classic & better.
You should try jive bunny and the master mixers
This was huge in the gay clubs when it came out!!
Say perfect 1970s style disco reinvention of a song that would’ve been contemporary when studio 54 was open so it’s exactly what somebody might’ve actually done back then with his song
Dam!!! Sams even finer on the left. lol...Phil seems concerned over Sam dancing in her chair? He seems like he needs to make her self conscious of herself!..Cmon man! Shes enjoying the song while he's acting skeptically fake about it.
Nah, Gordon Lightfoot is the only one who can put the emotion and feeling into the song. This version made me a bit ill. This is so fake. Best to do the original on this particular song. Sorry for the bad vibe, but Gordon was the best.
I'm dancing in my bed rite now...great review...
What about "Stars on 45"
No point, except to make money
Streisand does a MUCH better cover of the song.
Terrible. Couldn't take more than 10 seconds
