  • This is a nice Union Special overlock machine. I found a couple of "parts" machines and was able to make this great unit whole.

    Very cool. It's amazing how well built machines of the late 1800-1950's were made. I think one of the things vintage machines have going for them is the lack of plastic parts and integrated electronics. They will still be working long after the electronic technology fails.

    Nice vintage overlock machine. I never saw one this old. You’re a wizard being able to make a working machine out of the two you found. Looks like you did an excellent job. Congratulations!🍾🎊🎈

    I bought one of these last week Model 39200AE slightly different it was in a shed on the original table with cast iron light, Thank goodness someone that removed parts put them in a small envelope and marked it save these and put it in the drawer on the left hand side of the table. It was only the needle plate and a few screws but still, my only problem is the knives are missing going onto Ebay now to search for some otherwise it's running now that I've cleaned it up and properly oiled it.

    A seamstress on TH-cam uses a pretty old serger, only works with 3 threads, but she gives it lots of work.
    I personally would prefer something like that, but in Northern Ireland I never seem to see them, even on Ebay.
    It's beautiful.

    I wish I had kept my grandmothers old Singer. She could sew over horizontal pins, didn't have to remove them. The needle would n just glide over, and never break..and neither would the pins.

      Watch the classifieds and I am sure you can replace it with one just like your grandmothers. It won't be the same but it will look and work the same.

    Hello Sir, great video. Can you please tell me what kind of motor you are using on this setup and the pedal amperage. I tried something similar with just a motor I had laying around and a old singer pedal and it toasted my pedal so stopped trying. Is there a special motor you’re using along with the pedal. I’ll greatly appreciate any info.
    Best regards

    • @AlexanderDyer
      @AlexanderDyer  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm afraid I don't know the answer to your questions. You see, I got this setup secondarily to another purchase I made. It was all wired up like you see it and so I just thought it would be neat to use it like this. Instead I would encourage you to get a purpose built motor for sewing machines. There are literally millions available. Clutch or Servo. th-cam.com/video/lavkvsU5ltk/w-d-xo.html

    • @randomxfix334
      @randomxfix334 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the prompt response. I was referring to the pedal you are using to driver that motor. What kind of pedal is it? Amps and maybe model brand will be great to know if you have that info. Are you using a pedal or some other actuator to activate the motor.

      Hi there, did you get your rig sorted out. Let me hazard a guess here. I think that this is a low horsepower motor, maybe 1/6hp AC single phase at maybe 3 amps. This one has a capacitor(s). Some older ones don't. A lot of older motors are out there. Or, as Alex says, just save the potential headache of cobbling up something and get a sewing machine servo motor (many to choose from) because you can easily adjust the rpms. I think that Alex is using an on/off foot pedal here. I don't hear it producing accelerating speeds, but maybe he's a master on the pedal. Otherwise you could look for a pedal with a built in potentiometer - which syncs your pedal pressure to increasing/decreasing the motor speed just like your Singer pedal unit.

      A year later is my reply but sailrite's portable walking foot's predecessor is the "Thomson mini". They pop up every now and then. I picked up mine for under $300 a couple years ago and there is one on the market near Seattle now for $500
