    Sorry to see the sales didn't pick up over the weekend! Don't beat yourself up about it - I'm sure your next launch will go much better.

    I’m releasing book 1 in my first fantasy series on Friday and I’m biting my nails. So far just 10 pre-orders, so this seems great to me 🤦🏼‍♀️😂 Watching this takes some of the edge off- thanks for the interesting perspective as always!

      Best of luck! And pre-orders for first time authors are generally quite low, so no need to be nervous about that

      Aaron Oster thanks dude 😊 I set up the pre-order just to have the link to share for group promos and whatnot, and I wasn’t expecting any to actually sell already. And I didn’t announce to it family or friends, so that takes that out of the equation. So 10 is a little, but actually sort of a lot!

    for me, unless i specifically go to your amazon page, none of your books ever show up in recommended or anything else when I'm looking for new books to read, mainly because they are all listed under young adult. For example, Rise to Omniscience is under the young adult fantasy category on audible, so unless I specifically go to the young adult category, none of them show up. I have to periodically go to your actual page to see if more are out or not.

      @@AaronOsterAuthor haha, i get your "failed launch" video perfectly now. The book I launched last week wasn't technically a failure because I have turned a profit, but it underperformed way more than I expected. I have really been struggling with a bit a depression from it. This was the most fun I have had writing a book and I think it is great. However not many people are interested in reading it. I have come to the conclusion that science fiction harem is evidently not all that appealing to readers. It is what it is. Like I said, I haven't lost money on it, but It has not performed like I expected it to which hurts. :(

      @@litrpgre-roll7929 Yeah, I can definitely feel you there. If I can offer just a bit of advice, I'd say to focus more on your first series, the one that was more successful. Take a bit more time to establish yourself (write at least a single series with 3 books). Then, you can attempt another series.
      I know it sucks when you've put so much work and effort into something, and while telling you not to let it get you down probably won't help, I'd tell you to refocus that energy on a new project!

    What you think is the reason it didn’t sell well? 84% through the book and it’s on par with the first book and I would say is better.

    • @AaronOsterAuthor
      @AaronOsterAuthor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be any number of things. But, I'd say the number one reason, is that not enough people read or enjoyed book 1 enough to read the second

      Aaron Oster don’t give up on Zundy yet! Character build up takes a few books! Wait a year or two till you have a thousand requests for book 3! No way people read RTO, buryoku, and Origin without looking for the next Aaron Oster read!

    Unless I miss my guess, you're comparing a book 7 release to a book 2 release, so I really think you're beating yourself up a bit too much. Of coures Book 7 of an established series will practically launch itself with little more than a mailing list and blasting FB fans. A more apt comparison would be, how did the launch of book 1 of your FIRST series compare to your book 1 launch for your mainline series? Sorry if you've talked about that before, but I haven't gone back to watch all your videos. It's a bit of apples and oranges comparison, and from your ranks it seems you're selling decently well to be on track for a mid list type of series that earns out over the long haul. Assuming you continue with similar numbers, doesn't it stand to reason that once you get to book 7 of your new series, that launch will blow the launch of your other book 7 out of the water? I don't know. Just some food for thought. Editing to say, I appreciate you being candid about your numbers. Sometimes a book or series doesn't hit the market the way we think it will. I somewhat understand because I wrote a new series that maybe converted 25% of the fans of my first series. I would have had more success making something more or less the same than trying to do something too different. It's one of the sad realities of indie publishing, but good business sense as I'm sure you know.

      Book 2 of the comparative series sold over 1,600 copies and had over 1 million reads on the opening weekend. It's safe to say that this book completely tanked in comparison 😔😅.

      @@AaronOsterAuthor Gotcha, that's a more fair comparison.Publishing is always a kind of roulette wheel... There is educated guesswork on what might sell but there's no telling how the market will take to it. I learned that lesson myself with my second series!
