Not many realize how talented GWAR really is. They’re all exceptional musicians and their stage presence speaks for itself. GWAR is like a live action comedy/horror show accompanied by awesome metal music. What more could you ask for??
how underrated they were i say all the time. Lust in Space is an opus. one of the best albums of all times. the costumes and fun absolutely overshadowed their playing. very sorry i came to them so late in life. never got to a concert but will forever not stop enjoying them. the gift that keeps on giving. cheers
That is oh so very true. Many people write them off because of the act and makeup which is sad for them because they are missing out on an amazing group of musicians.
@@scott-richardswhile oderous is gone, blothar is killing it. They still tour every year and luckily they always come through here. So if you haven't seen em yet, you should
I keep coming back to this video over and over and that's one of my favorite parts. Brockie's humor in this cover was out of this world (of course he was always hilarious anyway.)
Goddam, I miss Oderus so bad! I can't even fathom what family, band mates, and friends feel! RIP Oderus Urungus, you were one of the best lead throats, ever!
David was Gwar, Like no hate for the new guy but it's not even comparable. Maggots and Penguin Attack and Slaughterama are all still such classics I couldn't imagine anyone but Brockie singing them.
If you are a gwar fan. Bishop taking the reigns shouldnt remotely be an insult to what the Brock man built. He too was apart of it. And honestly I've just grown into bishop then more I listen to post '14 GWAR
"WAY YOUR- bl bl pffffffft- *cough cough* was that like 'lay your weary head to rest'? Was like a- oh yeah- LAY YOUR WEARY HEAD TO REEEEST" Dave was fucking hilarious
I saw GWAR four times, took my daughter to the last trip. She was 7 at the time. Her favorite band. She was on my shoulders the whole time and we was soaked to the bone with blood lol. Awesome time! Thanks bro for bringing back some memories 🙏 😊
I hung out with GWAR after a show back in the mid-90s. Dave kept talking about Lord of the Rings all night and Mike gave me a couple comic books that had fallen on the floor (and were presumably unsellable). They were a great bunch of dudes who were surprising normal when not "in character." RIP Dave.
What makes this so great is how tight the band sounds. I don't think Kansas ever played it so well. Nice tempo changes and change-up in the lyrics, too. Oderus said it all: "Sheer Brilliance". RIP Dave Brockie.
Absolutely man, say what you want but damn they can play. I've never heard of a bad version of GWAR. This cover is tighter than the original by far. The part about naming bands after geographical locations cracks me up every time, lmao.
Had a roommate that came back from a GWAR concert and threw his bloody t-shirt in the guest bathtub, and it sat in there for about a week. The CDC was able to contain it but almost became ground zero for the zombie apocalypse.
I saw GWAR back in 1988 at City Gardens in Trenton, NJ. When they arrived, me and another guy were the only two people there. They asked us to help them set up. During the course of this, they mentioned that their tour van smelled. I had just put a brand new coffee scented air freshener in my car, so I went and got it and gave it to them. Saw them again at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ in 2014 and they were still awesome!!
Lucky to say I got to see these guys like 5 or 6 times when I was in high school... 93-95 @ 1st Ave in Minneapolis. Was obsessed with them for a while.
What a band! I saw gwar live only once but it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to, Dave even came out of a fire exit whilst we were queuing to get in, just joined the queue without saying anything, started talking to people in the queue just randomly, it took a minute for people to realise, I remember him saying how much it sucked because they didn't have their costumes with them, but of course when they came out, they were fully costumed up and put on an amazing show. We all went home covered head to toe in fake blood, puss, shit and jizz. Glorious 😁
I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Oderous and talking to him during Dragoncon '91. Dave was a colossal talent, and an absolute sweetheart of a human being. And he had demons. If there's a hereafter, he's jamming with the likes of Lemmy Kilmister and Joey Ramone. Hell no doubt has one fuck of a house band :)
Oderus Urungus of GWAR - Kansas was a big part of music where bands were often named after Geographical locations....and lets hope that never happens again." RIP LEGEND.
I sing this to my little Westie mix BearBear as he naps on the couch, “Carry on my wayward, unemployed son. Get your ass off the couch and get a goddamned job!”
I’ve been a Gwar fan since the beginning I can’t believe I’ve never seen/heard this until now in 2024..This is an instant classic in the Gwar nation it’s almost as good as Death Pod
What a HILARIOUS Rendition ! Those guitar riffs and drums were damned AWESOME and that VOICE though! The whole Ensemble was wild, fun and definitely artistic. Rest in Peace Oderus (Dave). Whenever an Artist dies, the World becomes an ever so darker a Place.
Omg!!! Absolutely kickass and awesome!!! First time hearing or seeing these guys. im blown tf away!!!! If there’s any info i should know about them please share with me!!!! Back story….. T.i.A
this is one of those "so bad it's good" covers and it is so hard to not laugh at the shear brilliance it took to change it so much- RIP Dave, love GWAR
Honestly there is nothing bad about it. They could have done a straight cover of it but their version is so good especially the tempo speed changes. This is actually borderline genius.
Saw GWAR 3 times in Dallas. The first time i wasnt sure what to expect, but i noticed the venue had to cover their p.a.speakers(every one)with plastic tarps, and i didnt know why at the time. But i sure knew why by the end of the show!!! Me and my date, came out of that show drenched in(theatrical)blood!! But what a heluva show! Long live gwar!
I'm with Dave on that statement. I never understood why bands named themselves after geographical locations either when I was a kid in the 80s. RIP Oderus - GET OFF THE COUCH AND GET A GODDAMN JOB! 😂
The best part is Dave just not singing half the lyrics and making indecipherable sounds instead.

Nah they would be too busy conquering and killing and destroying the government

Brilliant, they’re so fucking tight! I’m glad I got to see them when Dave was still with us.
I got to see GWAR a half dozen times (three of them when they toured with The Misfits), and DBX twice. Easily the best shows I've ever been to.

This is the ONLY version I will listen to. Got to see it played live one time and it was EPIC!
Why do I love this?
because it's pretty awesome?
🤷♂
Because GWAR is a collection of excellent musicians and Dave Brockie was an amazing, imaginative, and brilliant lyricist and comedian.
