@ronnyparker i see, so it never got played after it came out when I was 7. I didn't hear it played by older siblings and find it and the entire album interesting in my teen years or eventually play it as a late night classic rock dj in my 20's. Sorry i didn't realize you could only appreciate music if it was released when you were a certain age.

WOW!! OMG what an amazing performance. So much talent in that group. That lead guitarist was OFF THE CHAIN with that spectacular performance. And that lead vocalist...... O M G!!!
This is a tight and accurate rendition of a classic, popular with the grandparents of these kids! I was their age when this song was released in 1976! Thanks for keeping classic rock alive, and playing it with the all the heart and style that Kansas put into it 46 years ago!
special song for those of us who were in Viet Nam and lived the life personified by Henry Winkler's character in the movie "Heroes". . . 30+ years of PTSD . . . great song and great rendition of this classic in part because there really is peace now . . . 50 + years later.
I am usually never impressed with a female vocalist taking on male lead vocals, especially with this mega-hit by Kansas, but I have to say Greta absolutely nailed it. Amazing talent! Instrumentals were, for a lack of a better word, PERFECT!.
Never mind their age. This was purely and simply a solid performance for anyone of any age. Well done to the whole band and support group that put this together.
Good Lord, that was incredible!! Everyone....guitars (that lead guitar!), bass, drums, piano, organ, production, all were top notch and super tight! And the vocals....the vocals were out of this world! The harmonies were spot on and the lead vocal was exquisite! She truly has a phenomenal voice. Steve Walsh's original vocals on this song, indeed on all of the Kansas repertoire, is so distinctive it truly is what most people react to first when they hear Kansas. This young lady not only recreates that special sound she added her own beautiful vocal styling that really stands out! She reminds me of Michelle Branch... Congratulations to all! I'm sure like a lot of other people I'll be back to listen again and again.
None of you were born when that song was first performed, so I have to say... you captured the emotional angst and urgency of the times! Good on you all!

Everyone in this band is fantastic. The lead singer, Greta, is unreal. One of the best singers I've ever heard. Mind blown 🤯. I hope she continues to pursue music as a career. Man, I wish this existed when I was a kid.
Although I play guitar, I think what impressed me and truly chilled me to the bone in all the best ways, was watching the lead vocalist sing those awesome lyrics that have grown in their depth of meaning to me in the 45 years since it came out in November of 1976. And hearing this young girl (and her awesome backups who made incredible 4-part!) SING out these lyrics with a conviction far beyond their age and before their time. I think there’s no disputing that if Kerry Livgren were to see this, it would warm his old heart.
My God. This song played every 10 minutes when I was high school. To say I’ve heard it a few times is beyond crazy. These kids absolutely slayed it. Nicely done.
Totally shocked at what I just saw & heard. That was awesome. Great singing by Greta. Not an easy song to sing. She’s going places!!! Fantastic rock voice. Great lead guitar & keyboards as well. Well done everyone. Brought a tear to my eye to hear this generation sing & play this classic masterpiece of the 1970’s!
School of Rock is always impressive but I gotta say that this was an absolutely superlative rendition. Well done Greta and everyone involved. Les Paul Lead Guitarist has incredible tone, feel and timing - really feeling it. Great to see you are into 2112, one of the greatest prog rock albums of all time. There is obviously so much hard work necessary (student and instructors) to achieve this level of performance - those featured and those behind the scenes are an inspiration to us all!!!
The guitarist in this video here. My guitar strap has the 2112 logo on it. I love Rush so I figured it was a no-brainer to have them on my strap when I saw that at a shop.
I love seeing kids performing music that, at this point, was written by their grand-parent :) Awesome work... this is one of the greatest rock tunes ever written... they did it well.
Best cover of this song - by a country mile!! They killed it. the dude with the blue gibson was on fire!! And that singer -dang girl!! she can move air like nobody's business!!
I was 6 years old when this song came out, but my parents were both way into rock music, and I grew up listening to bands like Kansas, America, the Eagles, Heart and more. I’m still a big fan of what’s now called “classic rock” 😀 and I just loved this cover of Wayward Son. Special shout-out to the lead guitarist-wow-I’m blown away. Great job, everyone!
As a teenager in the seventies, I saw them play this live three times. Very few club bands would try to tackle this song but you kids nailed it. Saw Steve Walsh play one show with a cast on one wrist. Thanks for breathing new life into this classic.
The power, tone and clarity of the lead singer blew me away. I definitely want to follow what she does. The rest of the band was also very tight and sounded great. Fantastic talent.
Really? I thought it was Just Another Typical American Voice. Clearly limited on her range, competent enough, but doing nothing out of the ordinary stuff that *every* singer in the US does these days. Maybe I'm being unfair for expecting something beyond average?
@@iatsd Well, I went back and watched the video again. I’ve got to say I’m sticking to my guns on this one. I still maintain that her power, clarity and tone are impressive to me and I certainly know that most people (female or not; American or not) do not sound as good as she does to me. I listen to a fair amount of music and when a voice gets my attention in a positive way, then it’s usually because there’s a good level of quality behind it. I wouldn't say I'm qualified to compare her voice to someone like Laura Fabian (or any other elite level vocalist) and honestly, I'm not interested in doing so. I just really liked what I heard. Perhaps our ears and minds interpret things differently. I’m glad mine interpret things the way they do.
@@iatsd I have heard Kansas and many other covers of this song since it was first released. This was a very good cover, to give credit where due. However, I must agree that there were certain passages in the vocals where the lead did not have the range, mostly on the upper end, to give a totally accurate rendition of the Kansas sound. Again, I must give credit where due to the entire band and must say that I did enjoy this piece!
I love Greta's attitude when she sings "No" around 2:59. I tried changing the playback speed to .25 or .50 % of normal speed. She sounds pretty cool, but if you do this little trick, beware the guitars that start right after her "No" sound pretty bad, but I love the drawn out "Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo". The whole band sounds awesome!!!!
I saw Kansas three times in my life and they were one of the tightest bands ever. A group of musicians that will forever be hard to be matched. So it’s nice to see this group of young musicians tackle one of their great hits. 🐢
The Bassist, the keyboardist, the drummer, the soloing, really stand out. Those are incredibly melodic, but still technically challenging parts. I know that the singing is spot on, but right in the pocket for these girls in terms of range. I would love to see guys sing this.
I was a junior in high school when Kansas released this song, way before any of these kids were even born. The young lady singing lead has a stellar voice and the back up singers were also very good, their harmonies were spot on. The musicians played as though they had been playing the song since it was first released in 1976, VERY good job all the way around, I think Steve Walsh and the rest of Kansas would approve.
Everybody is shredding with style, the band is super-tight on execution, and the vocals are amazing -- from the lead to the harmonies. Well done, from a guy who bought the vinyl when it came out 46 years ago.
I've been a musician for 55 years, who plays several instruments, and has played every genre of music. These young musicians did a Terrific Job. Definitely EPIC! KUDOS to all of them.
I’m 76 years old and I totally and fully complement all of you on your rendition of this cover. Well done, very well done. Your futures are diamond bright. Follow your dreams and you’ll get there. Thank you!
This just popped up on my feed and I have watched it like a dozen times! Like the others who have commented, this is an amazing performance! Not only did they nail it, but they looked like they had fun as well. Kudos to the entire group- AMAZING! Hope to hear more from the lead singer - she is incredible!
THAT was EPIC, just EPIC, there are literally no words to describe just how good this was, everyone involved should feel an astronomical sense of achievement the lead guitarist has some serious skills and the vocal control and range of the lead singer is crazy impressive
As the Music Director, I may be biased, but I think this is EPIC! Each one of these young people rock in every way. Playing with joy!

They're all fabulous, but the lead singer has a career ahead of her!
That girl on the keyboards absolutely was awesome on the keyboard lead.
I agree
I love seeing kids performing music that, at this point, was written by their grand-parent :) Awesome work... this is one of the greatest rock tunes ever written... they did it well.
I grew up in this era and had this Kansas album…these kids absolutely ROCK! Great job!
Best cover of this song - by a country mile!! They killed it. the dude with the blue gibson was on fire!! And that singer -dang girl!! she can move air like nobody's business!!
From the singing to the instrumental these guy's knocked it out of the park, outstanding performance by all!!!
If you were only listening to this, you’d think it was a group of adults who have been playing for 20+ years. Excellent job all around 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I saw Kansas perform this song in the '70's and this cover by these wonderful young musicians brought tears to my eyes. Amazing!
Lead Vocals is amazing!
@jeanclaude7018but with talent and looks
That lead singer is going places. Great to see young people tackling the great rock and roll songs.
The female Lead Singer needs a contract ASAP.... I need more NOW!
The whole band does
Love the smirk smile on the lady guitarist. These kids are having so much fun, it's a joy to watch.
The fact they even picked this song gives me hope. Not to mention that they killed it. Great job. ❤
Gave me the chills. Very rare that any musicians can do that, let alone younger ones. Well done.
@@slithytoaves8637 Nah, she nailed it.
@@iatsd It is possible not to criticize a teenager on a public form, I’m sure. She is a lovely and talented girl with a great voice.
I could literally listen to this all day.
That lead singer is amazing. She should be on tour with Kansas.
Greta Hugen. Awesome singer.
I saw Kansas three times in my life and they were one of the tightest bands ever. A group of musicians that will forever be hard to be matched. So it’s nice to see this group of young musicians tackle one of their great hits. 🐢
They could have called this "The Kids of Kansas". Played like the originals. GREAT JOB. Thanks for playing the classics.
Love it!
I'm glad to see the younger generation keeping the good old music going! Well done, keep it up.
They nailed it
They honed their abilities, that's for sure, and their future is brilliant
Keep at it, keep rock alive
The Bassist, the keyboardist, the drummer, the soloing, really stand out. Those are incredibly melodic, but still technically challenging parts. I know that the singing is spot on, but right in the pocket for these girls in terms of range. I would love to see guys sing this.
It's absolutely great to see and hear young musicians still playing songs like this and performing so phenomenally. ❤
Holy smokes can those young ladies sing! And the lead guitarist... Dude, you rock!
I agree! The lead guitarist is amazing!!! Wow! She's so good! Hope we will hear more from her.
Or him
One of my favorited songs! Well-done! ROCK ON! Dale Streiker
I was a young man when this great song was released. The skill and talent of these young musicians is outstanding. Way to go!
Everybody is shredding with style, the band is super-tight on execution, and the vocals are amazing -- from the lead to the harmonies. Well done, from a guy who bought the vinyl when it came out 46 years ago.
Yes, the vocals set this one apart. I still have their first five "albums" in my vinyl collection, starting in 74' (RIP Robbie Steinhardt).
So proud to have been a part of this!!! ❤️❤️
Great job!
so proud to have played with you mal ❤️❤️❤️
Me too! You were all amazing!!
I've been a musician for 55 years, who plays several instruments, and has played every genre of music. These young musicians did a Terrific Job. Definitely EPIC! KUDOS to all of them.
fantastic job guys the young woman singing the lead vocals has a set of pipes
I’m 76 years old and I totally and fully complement all of you on your rendition of this cover. Well done, very well done. Your futures are diamond bright. Follow your dreams and you’ll get there. Thank you!
Greta, what amazing range, tone and control. I look forward to hearing more from you, you have a bright future young lady.
02:57 I love this part 😍
Beautiful voice 😻
🎤Don’t you cry no more NO!🎶
The girl singing is WONDERFUL!!! She has a miraculous vibe in her voice!
She took the whole song and ran with really impressed with her vocals to be honest
I just found these. Watching the young lady on the right play that guitar is a thing of joy and beauty.
The lead voice is amazing!!!
This is a really difficult song to play. The guitarists, bass, and keyboards nailed it. The vocals were spot on too. Great job kids!
Were they really playing...Sounded awful dam good to be a cover of the music...
I'm freakin' blown away! Fantastic performance by everyone! School Of Rock is bringing out some incredible talent.
Extraordinary level of performance...and they clearly were enjoying it too! That raised the bar even more
This just popped up on my feed and I have watched it like a dozen times!
