    I like how cubers took a timer used for timing how fast you can stack cups, and just went: Yep! That's a cubing timer!

    • @Dawid23_Gamer
      @Dawid23_Gamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I mean a timer is supposed to do one thing: time. Just so happens that that timer works well with cubing.
      Now that I know it won't count past 10 minutes though... was speedstacks timer chosen for the 'solve max time: 10 minutes' rule or did the rule come as a result of the speedstacks timer not counting past 10 minutes?

    The only reason I don’t like it is because it bothers me having features that do absolutely nothing for me. I would be less upset if the wca made us use the thumb pads than I am having a timer that has thumb pads for no reason. It is also hard to buy this when you can get a GAN timer that does everything the G5 does and more.

    Could you do a video on how long it takes the average person to learn to speed cube from knowing nothing to knowing how to solve a cube from memory?

    • @vit.budina
      @vit.budina 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Solving the cube in general (with no focus on speed) shouldn't take so long. The beginner's method took me less than a few watches of a 10min long tutorial and couple hours of training (I was able to solve the cube in less than 2 minutes after less than a week). If you mean speedsolving, I learned the beginner's method about 3 years ago and after training it for 1 to 3 months, I would occasionally get below 1 minute, although rarely. Then I left cubing for 3 years and went back to it about a month ago, when I learned CFOP. Learning CFOP took me (with all of the 16 basic algorhytms) about 3 days to be able to solve the cube without a paper with the algs written down. Now, about a month later, I usually get times below 50 seconds with some sub 40 times here and there. If you started cubing right now, I can't really say your learning curve will be the same as mine, since I really like math, numbers and have quite good memory, thus, I have a bit easier time learning algs, but I'd say maybe half a year at most to get from zero to my level. But there are many other factors, including age (I'm 18, so if you are younger, you will likely have easier time learning new things), motivation (you will probably never learn something you don't like doing), source of information... If you want to start cubing, I recommend J perm's tutorials, they are very well done, concise and straight to the point. Sorry for the length of the text, tried to fit all the useful info without making it too long, but it didn't really work out apparently, lol.

    • @Peaceful_Zen_Life
      @Peaceful_Zen_Life 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vit.budina LMAO I can’t tell you how different you and I are in regards to what you have listed so far. I am 46 years old, very dyslexic and ADHD, never been very good at math it took a lot of brute force and tutoring; I got to business calculus and business math, for example logistics. If this didn’t make the whole learning speed to be interesting enough I also am currently suffering from severe back problems meaning that I’m constantly in a lot of pain and on medication. So I fight to have enough mental and physical energy to do things. Cubing has been a wonderful thing to help me move forward. It doesn’t help that the book I decided to use ended up having three mistakes in it and that’s just in a 3 x 3 section. LOL lastly I have to say I’ve never been very good at memorizing things. Learning how to do the cube has been a personal challenge I want to overcome and I have been very much enjoying the challenge. It’s taking me a long time but considering all the obstacles I think I’m doing a good pace. I have even helped three people to start learning how to do this wonderful hobby. I’ve been setting this on and off for about four months and I’m almost able to do it from memory. I need to memorize three algorithms. It takes a long time for for me to get the algorithms to stick my brain. It’s all these opposite direction things that happen but if he is a hell out of me.
      J perm is an awesome TH-cam I watch his stuff all the time and z3cubing and bunch more!

    As a stacker, i already hate this timer. I dont wanna use 4 pads to start and stop the timer. Plus it eliminates the opposite first 3 style which most stackers use. The records reset is borderline plain stupid. As a cuber, maybe this isnt a bad timer to use.

      I really hope the 4-pad concept will quickly become obsolete. A better re-design might be that they angle the 2-pads in such a way that it prevents them from stopping the timer using their arms.
      I don't really know much about SportStacking, but is it really that difficult for the WCA to really implement the "palms facing down before starting" rule?
      And, yes, the implementation of "Legacy Records" is just dumb.

      @@thesphyrth unfortunately in the stacking world it may not be possible to make such a timer so unique where we stop by karate chopping.

    Sorry but cubing but the g4 was built with cubing in mind and stack mat timers were built for speed stacking so and even tho cubing is more popular now speed stacks still have there brand on the timer so people would expect to use it for stacking

    I got this timer as a 1st timer and my reason is..... uhh..... let's just say it was the newest timer, and I thought why not get a timer to use.
    Edit: Also it's cheaper than the G4 for me

    1:44 but you cannot use it. 7f1a) Stackmat: The Speed Stacks Stackmat timer and a full-size compatible mat. Generation 2, Generation 3 Pro Timer, and/or Generation 4 Pro Timer must be used for time measurement.
    Edit: there are 3D printed things to prevent reseting the timer while stopping.
    4:54 I see no reason to buy G5 at all. It is okay if you use it at first timer, but if you have the old one, it is not an upgrade. Pads are closer, and they will probably stay forever as not legal in WCA. (If not forever, then for a long time for sure.) I wouldn't grab it, but I guess, I have to...
    6:07 I would do it for reviews only.

      @Z3Cubing  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The conclusion of this video is under the assumption that the WCA does approve it, which seemed like somewhat of a consensus on the forum. I would agree that there's no point if they don't.
