0:56 Don’t do that! Make sure the scorecard falls into the box, or else there is a chance that the runners will assume that there isn’t a cube underneath.
From the perspective of a delegate, this is a really useful video! I'm going to start linking this video in our precompetition emails as I think it would be really beneficial for new competitors to watch this before their first competition.
@@ImDetonator_You’re correct, but I do have some cubing competition memories where the early groups are all usually slower cubers, and the final group is the stars of the competition. I dunno, maybe it’s just that weird effect where things are so random that they often don’t feel random.
@@bigoofersrock I think it depends on the people that are organising the comp, all the comps I have been to have had slower cubers (or cubers who haven't participated in that event yet) first and then the faster solvers.
@@happygamer787 True. and that is the usual order for mine. I also see why they would do that order. If you have all the 1:00 min solvers in many different groups, each groups will take, like, 15 minutes, cause all the 1 minute solvers will be with the fast 8 second solvers who would usually have a 10 minute group, but when they're all in 1 group, 1 group is 15 minutes, next is 13, then 12, then 10 or so.
"oh we forgot to sign these" the scrambler with the postit note looking bored just made my day 😂 anyways thank you for this video cubehead! This helped me a lot and will come in handy when I go to competition. Your community is wholesome and your videos are funny! Thank you again
i'm autistic and have social anxiety, cubing competitions are something i've always wanted to done but i've never been able to build up the courage to go. i'm not really interested in any of the social parts, although that's sort of the main attraction, i just like setting goals for myself at a professional standard.
By far the best comp guide I've seen! But theres one more important detail: If there's a comp in your area, make sure to sign up within the first five minutes.
A few other things you really need to be doing is that after any solve and after it's written on the scorecard either the judge or the competitor needs to reset the timer for the next cuber. While being a runner you should announce the competitors name loudly and in some case the full first and last name. This is due to the noisy environment of the comp venue and there might be more than one cubers named Billy that's competing.
Thank you so much for this! i am going to my first competition to meet new cubers in 5 days! as a pretty young person with a not very well average this helps alot
Omg, after seeing this, I feel so much more confident. Looking forward to going to a competition soon. I still kinda feel nervous since in competitions you do worst than the comfort of home.
This is probably the best and funniest competitor tutorial ive ever seen lol. even though i have been to multiple competitions, this still helped me and i really liked this vid Also i went to .25 speed when all the scorecards were being displayed, nice easter egg lol
Salut Cubehead, merci pour le video. Its super cool and perfect timing for this video as my brothers and I are going to our first competition on Dec 16. We also got all our stuff from cubicle on time. Keep up the great work!
My first cubing competition is on July 6th, 2024. I am going with my friend, and he told me that research on how things worked can benefit me. Thanks Cubehead.
Comps here no longer make you move around between solves. You get a station, complete all 5 solves, then leave. It's a much better system, ask your delegates to introduceit at your next comp.
I wish I had this before I went to my first comp. And Billy Dickson looks a lot like that guy who recently got brutally roasted by Tymon and quit cubing.
LOL great content, ive been looking everywhere, but theres nothing telling me how to enter a comp. i check the WCA site every day but any comps relatively near me you cant register anymore. its like a competition to get into the competition XD. love the video!!
What are your guyses opinion on using fixed seating? So we numbered the stations 1-20 and write a number on the scorecard. When the competitior brings his cube, he checks the number on his scorecard and takes a sit at his assigned station. This removes the crazy amount of running from competitiors. This way runners also don't have to issues with pronouncing international names, looking for the competitor in the waiting area and the competitior gets to calm down better between his solves
Fixed seating was used a lot in 2021/early 2022 comps (some regions like Australia still use this), but the competition does run quite a bit slower with fixed seating, because the number of competitors per group can't be greater than the number of stations with fixed seating, while from regular format you can put about twice the number of competitors as stations. I do prefer fixed seating as a competitor (the last comp I organized had fixed seating for Clock finals because it was small but not for any other round, and it helped me calm my nerves knowing that my judge would judge me correctly) but as an organizer, regular format works better and is less risky.
Omg thank you so much for this video cubehead! This is perfect timing because I literally have a comp in 2 hours and I didn’t know how anything worked until now 😅 Love the vid!
0:48 Michael Humuhumunukunukuapua’a. I never thought I’d see that name again but I’m so glad I did. Other than that, I don’t see any reason this video has to be 3 minutes longer than the original wca competitor tutorial by Chris Olson and Kit Clement.
Many thanks for this video !!! I will go to my first competition next year with my son and we are very excited, but my cube has 2 logos ! one on the white center and one on the Yellow center - because I start with the yellow Cross 95% of the time. Yes, once the scorecard is in the box. This is an indicator that the competitor is ready.
At my last (and first) competition, there were no boxes with the score card so we just had to put our cube in the box.
Can you use 1 3x3 for other 3x3-like events? (Like 1 3x3 for FMC, 3BLD, OH)
@@rahhhhhhhh1 yes, you give your cube at the beginning of the round like 0:56, but after your last solve you have to take your cube with you
