      @@ZealandonYT I'm an expat, though I suffered enough with the Irish football leagues and associations lol. I feel even worse for my Indonesian brothers though; their system is ten times worse. It's shameful really. If it weren't for the corruption and complete lack of infrastructure and funds at grassroots level, Indonesia would be a serious footballing powerhouse in Asia. I reckon the best hope is for some big European teams (possibly Dutch because of their connections here) to create some kind of academies here. The outlook otherwise is not good.

  • @ThreeRunHomer

    FM also gives a huge boost to teams managed by us humans. It’s easy to prove. A few times in FM21 I’ve taken over a team at the bottom of the table at mid season. I saved them from relegation, then the next season I have the team at the top of the table at mid season (the game really is easy). Then I left to go to another crappy team for a makeover ... and the top-of-the-table team I left immediately craters. This doesn’t happen because I’m a great manager. I’m just another dope. It happens because the game gave my team a huge performance boost, so when I left they reverted to their true level of crappiness.

  • @mamaundpapa9721
    @mamaundpapa9721 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I think what they should do is a different mode where attributes are not shown, but your scout report includes statistics like good key pass numbers for his league and then you have to figure out whether that's good enough for you.

    • @am1d
      @am1d 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Attributes don't always mean everything. I found that some players with worse stats are just made for your club and outperform "superstars". In this sense, both attributes and scouts/coaches are clueless, as they rate a player who is better on paper, but severely under-performs. Yet, even an under-performing superstar will go for 100m, but the proven "work horse" is valued at barely 10m.
      So you really need to "find" your player, if you know what I mean. And I love that about FM. It adds that unique factor found in real life, but that could be better reflected in the game's evaluation.

    I haven't watched the full video yet, BUT, one of the reasons I love Football Manager is because you can curate your own fun. You can make it as easy or difficult as you want, even without the editor. It's a game, and I know you've said this before, but you can play it however you want based on what you feel is fun. You can even have multiple different saves in case you get frustrated with one of your more "difficult" saves, you can hop over to a save where you just buy all your favorite players and play with them. Play however you want!

I was stuck in the Championship for like 4 seasons, but that was the biggest stumbling block, the rest of the journey was smooth. it was fun, really fun, but also very unrealistic. With Man United, you should win Premier League and Champions League in 2 or 3 seasons. With Ipswich, probably you will need 6 to 8 seasons. I’m wrong every time though. It’s always pretty easy and the fundamentals don’t really change

    • @TeamOfThe80s

I feel there's a lot to gain there and I'm speaking from my Helmond save (2030). Psv and Ajax rarely pick up on talent which hinders the growth of the league...

    Totally agreed! But a clubs reputation as well as for example a players wanting to play for a better side (and hence become unhappy if they don’t get their move) should be factored in way way more!! Plus: in 1000s of hours of playing I’ve never encountered players who just can’t stand each other! In my short experience when the save is going well it becomes easy, but if something starts going wrong it can really spiral out of control (at least in my experience). For exemple in my first ever season in FM I won the league with arsenal, but I made bad signings and never won anything ever again, I’ve had a terrible Chelsea team that I eventually got the tactics right signed Haaland, and won everything, till I had financial issues and had to go back to getting my team into good shape for a good while, and when I start with good teams I do well but I can struggle on not as good teams, I think when you tactics and players click you can just become invincible.

    Strongly disagree about difficulty levels. We need them. Managing a poor team is not as easy as PSG but it's still very easy. Never managed in Indonesia but I'd bet I could pick the worst team available there and completely dominate the domestic league in a few seasons.

    • @laurentius82
      @laurentius82 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      And sure, you can impose limitations on yourself and artificially handicap yourself, right now I'm playing a save where I started in Vanarama South and can only have players and staff called Steve at my club. And indeed, it's more difficult (and good for a few laughs), took me 6 seasons to get to League 2 where I'm now. But this is not the solution. I'm removing a large part of the original game to gain any challenge, it's not what we should have to do, I'd much rather play in a normal way.

    I played a game with four friends a few years ago. We started as championship clubs in England and could pick one region at the start we could sign players from. Central Europe and South America were off-limits if I remember right.
    So we would pick Scandinavia, Asia, North Africa, etc. The idea was overtime each of our teams would be comprised of players only from that region, alongside our homegrown English talent. It was difficult, hilarious and we even came up with stories for why this would happen (owners from that region). Imposing rules such as this is a way to go if you're finding it easy.

    I have a PES United save where it set up to be a bit challenging as you start in Vanarama South with players with league 1/2 potential but you don't have the facilities to reach that potential nor have the rep to hire good enough coaches. Low rep has an effect later if you manage to go up to the Premier League as you won't be able to sign top-tier players and wonderkids. You will have to sign mid-tier players and second-tier wonderkids plus build your youth academy in order to succeed. I am also doing a Project KJ save where you manage 1 of 7 affiliated clubs you start with no players and staff in the lowest playable tier. The objective is to get these clubs on the level of the Red Bull clubs and the City Group clubs making it a global challenge.

    1. Attribute masking is on
    2. I don't deal with any scouting assignments, the director of football does all of it. The DoF also has the ability to make signings and negotiate deals AND player sales. This can mean they sell a player from under me or sign some total shit I didn't want. This means I cant exploit the SA and eastern Europe cheat code regens
    3. I ban myself from using the meta over powered formation/style. Gengen press is sill powerful and makes the game easy. It is actually my preferred style but in FM it simply isn't balanced

    My problem with the argument of "just play a worse league" is that it doesn't touch on the criticism I have of the difficulty of the game. I'm completely on board with most of Zealands arguments here, that's not where the problem is.
    The problem is that I can, with a very basic tactic, bad players, on amateur or part time contracts (5 or so teams are full time, so should trounce us), with the worst facilities in the league, is still topping the league at the end of the first season. I signed two players, none of which were good (a rotation option left back and a decent young goalie with potential), and that's the extent of my "genius" input. For context, this is the Norwegian 2nd division team Nardo.
    When the game will hold my hand to such an extent than when I do almost nothing, I still win, it is too easy. No ifs or buts, it just is. I shouldn't reliably expect to perform vastly above expectations when I do not change the training schedule, do not make any large tactical setups, and do not make any significant signings.
    My goal when picking that team was to build a team from scratch. I wanted to build stone for stone, bring up youngsters from my own academy, poach 21 year olds that didn't make it on big teams, and properly mold the club in my image before making a serious run for promotion. But now, I'm just jaded. It doesn't feel like my input is meaningful in any way when I could win so hard with so bad players and without access to any of the tricks I usually do (match review, set piece specific training, talent aquisition, loan abuse). It just isn't fun when you win the league without even having to try, despite picking a team where avoiding relegation would be a victory.

      Well written, fully agree. The game has depth, but it's too easy once you have an idea of what you are doing. I have never finished a season with any team in any save not top half. Make scouting a bit more difficult, improve ai transfers, turn down importance of dynamics, improve tactical flexibility. My slow backline shouldn't be able to dominate with a high gegenpress line versus good teams.

    • @Taeerom
      @Taeerom 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimersFM I mean, just not nerfing the ai teams would improve a lot. That's what a ptential difficulty slider should change. My players shouldn't play better than ai players just because I am the player manager. When my players are worse, they should at least not perform significantly better than the players on ai teams.
      Oh, I forgot in the piece above, that I had no qualifications and no experience when making the character, so everything at one except 4 in motivating, 5 in man management, and a bit in fitness coaching. There's no way I could have made the game harder for myself.

    I left my safe and secure job at Atalanta to manage Bilbao for the added challenge where I can only sign Basque players. I did well domestically at Atalanta but struggled in Europe. I worked my way from non league with Wrexham, then Exeter, Atalanta now Bilbao. I wouldn't say it's been easy and there was a lot of financial restraints until I managed Atalanta where I built a very strong team over 5 years signing mostly wonderkids but was lucky to have 3 come through the academy as well and still got hammered a couple of times in Europe, a lot of trial and error with tactics to start with as well. I think you can make it as hard or as easy as you want really but it's definitely too addictive.

    The videos not even started and my input on is it too easy. Sometimes your years of experience you can find yourself picking to manage a side and everything just clicks for you sometimes you get bogged down in a difficult team and if you get the sack It usually seems to balance thst out ( probably so you keep playing and stay interested in playing it) for instance I struggled in my first season I failed a major objective. I was sacked and was offered the Bournemouth job who'd failed to make the play offs I took in old experienced free agents released from the Premier and over Europe to strengthen them I had fairly decent backroom staff so I only had to worry about upgrading the team. I bought in players to add depth and hoped for a strong promotion push... I lost 1 game and stormed to the league breaking Al kinds of club and league records. The 2nd season my first with them in the Premier league I ground some free agents and loan deals for young players that might come good in years to come I finished 8th won the f.a Cup. I basically just continued this trait whilst moving on players that was no longer getting game time and signed the loanees that dramatically improved my squad I was 100-1 to win the europa league. We beat spurs I the final. So champions league next I made a few quality signings and throughout the season before my star youngsters were playing in games against mid table sides and Cup games against lower leagues and developing well I was 600-1 in the ucl ...I won it with a canter beating psg who won it the season before 6-3 on aggregate.it all depends on what type of manager you want to be. Pick a team that suites how you want to manage if you prefer a budget but want to take a club from lower leagues from the top check which sides offer you a decent starting budget and maybe have a few players already there that either make your team viable to build around or are not going to be apart of your plans because they don't suit your style of play but have value to there name. If you like the ultimate struggle take a club thst needs everything to be worked on if u want ro feel like a Rich manager with the expectation and pressure on you to succeed take control of a wealthy club. And if you want to mess around on it get the in game editor and turn someone like Sutton untied into world beaters and enjoy seeing your multimillion pound squad rip poor Hartlepool United aprt 19-0 on the opening day of rhe season 😂 fm is as hard as the challenge you decide to take

    • @tangyc_
      @tangyc_ 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that's true. Firstly, I think the same applies in irl. There is a meta tactic/strategy for success and it's pressing. That can be executed with lots of different formations and pressing to a greater or lesser extent, but nearly every successful side implements pressing. You also can't be successful with park the bus anymore, hence the decline of Mourinho. Even Simeone had to go more attacking. I also think you can be successful with almost any tactic in fm, if you have the players that suit. Currently I'm overperforming with a 442 catenaccio with Stuttgart because it's what suits the squad

    I missed out on a few iterations, so the whole range for attributes caught me off guard... have two players in my second team that I signed without fully scouting them, relying on the average values of the ranges to be good. The actual values were not good. And I really like that vagueness, I think it makes perfect sense, and adds the layer of difficulty and uncertainty that makes it that much more realistic...honestly, removing that seems like it makes the game a lot easier, and removes a lot of the challenge.
    Out of the box, I like the difficulty level tbh, as you said, some leagues, some environments are more difficult than others, so manage where you want to *shrug*
    Currently in my 4th season with Hajduk Split, I got to the point where I'm domestically the best team (Dinamo is still close though), but that next step of doing well in the European competitions is a bit harder... There are other elements that makes the game easier such as players download tested tactics, training schedules, shortlists, TH-cam videos etc. This isn't a game that is about who's got better reflexes but knowledge of how to do things. If you learn how to boost a player's morale up with praising them for conduct in this video, you have just made the game a little bit easier on yourself. Made a transfer to napoli, now i´m top of the league in my first season, and I haven´t even done the transfers that i wanted. I used to impose my own rules to make things more realistic & hide attributes but when it doesn't feel like a challenge, I just don't enjoy it.
    Having a hard level with uber demanding players & board, cut throat agents, more unpredictability or whatever would probably draw me back in. Playing as Div3 Malaysia has no appeal to me as realism is the thing I crave. Having difficulty levels means casual players will still find the game accessible & jaded veterans can still get that buzz of having actually achieved something.

    I'm playing in Tanzania, hidden attributes of my players, worst team in the league overperforming by a mile and I still think it's easy. And the reason it's because sometimes I don't feel my decisions have trade offs. I mean, I don't feel a good player because I'm overperforming, I feel like mostly anyone can do that. I can play possesion football like a good team with bad players. Or high pressing. And the cons of doing that with bad players as I have, should be noticeable. For example, playing possesion with a lot of missed passes, or high pressing football with a team full of tired and unorganized players.
    Maybe it's not "easy" the word I'm looking. But I do feel that the game should reward you more for good decisions and punish you more for bad ones. It's a simulator, I know, but it's also a game. :) In the end, what matters if you have fun or not. Some like easier games, some likes a challenge. That's great and that's why I think that some way to choose difficulty levels should be available (and no, your trainer credentials aren't actually a difficulty level although it can complicate some things).

    For me the only thing that makes the game too easy is the amount of world class regens, in my save, after three seasons there are 450 regens (yes, it's the real number), with more than 160 PA, and 40 with more than 180... Even if they'll not all reach their potential, it's far too unrealistic, even if the devs say otherwise. For comparison, in another save that I just started, there are 115 u20 players with more than 160 PA and 3 with more than 180 PA

      Why it is unrealistic? Do you know how many players have high potential without ever reaching it? Similarly in FM, only a fraction of players reach their potential.

      @@MartinBalaz89 well, the problem is that in theory, approximately the same percentage of real players and of regens will reach their potential. So if let's say a third of the players reach their potential, about 35 real players will be more than 160, which seems realistic. But a few years later about 130 regens would reach more than 160. Also keep in mind that this amount of regens is only after about 2 and a half seasons. I highly doubt that IRL there are about 130 people a year integrating academies that potentially could be stars for the very best teams in the world

    I just got to the quarter finals of the FA Cup in my first season with Boston Utd, so yeah it's maybe a little bit easy. Either that or the cups are just programmed to have a certain number of "giant killings". Possibly both.
