One thing that is never discussed about Metallica is Hetfields voice. His voice has held up for these decades and he still sings great. Very underrated vocalist.
I like Lars. He motivates all the band. He seems to be very warm hearted deep inside, even if he's a bit controlling. And he's drumming style is unique, the one which has influenced many and brought joy many.
I get so tired of people throwing Lars under the bus. He'll be the first person to tell you he isn't Neil Peart. But he is a killer arranger with great instincts. As a drummer he just plays for the song which is really the only thing a good drummer should be doing anyway. And none of those classic Metallica tunes would be the same without him because he and James are responsible for piecing all of those riffs together. And he's playing better than he has in years. So...fuck off about Lars.
After over 30 years of writing songs I love that in their writing process they're referring to pieces as "the guitar doodly thing, and the chugs riff but not the main one"
