The blacksmiths that made things like this were very very well paid. They were the most skilled of their regions and were usually employed by whatever ruling body that owned/supervised the land. When it came to like general work or general military purpose, they had others for that.

Agreed, I feel the director of this show put emphasis always on their faces, their bodies, and hands. The blade is rarely in focus, and if it is, it's in extreme closeup and it's rare to see the blade given proper focus except for the pretest montage for 3-5 seconds. Unfortunate.

Yeah I can't even imagine how difficult how it would've been, also swords were kind of like a status symbol, if you had a good sword on your belt you meant something.
It definitely would have to temper that with the fact that blacksmithing without modern machinery was all they knew. Smiths would have been masters at using coal-burning forges. Also, they would have apprentices to act like their power hammer. I think they main disadvantage they would have had would be the ignorance of metallurgical science, chemistry and techniques. Now, via the internet, a smith in training can access thousands of years of learning in the art of metal forging from all of the great smithing cultures of the world.
ZeD having to put detail in to iron/steel isn't easy. It's like comparing it to welding, when metal is heated to extreme heat, it moves twice as easily and can easily make details better, but is more close to being ruined.
The production quality on this show is so incredible. You guys deserve at least two or three shows on the history channel; one for the standard weapon making (maybe two separate shows for historical weapons and pop culture weapons), and an educational show with Ilya. Seriously, that guys work is unmatched and you guys deserve to be seen.

Ever so sadly an actual silver sword would fold like butter against a hard object but perhaps silver reacts to things differently in the alternate earth that the Witcher takes place in. In our world you could mix it with another metal and it be harder but it's time consuming and costly

i think the swords should be 40 inches and a half. In the game when Geralt is talking with an Elf i believe they specify the length of the swords. In Novigrad.

zednebula I was thinking they could make a blueish white blade in the center of the red blade part of the normal Monado. That way, if they implemented a button to lower the red part, it would leave the blue blade, and hopefully, the blue blade would look like the energy beam.

This must of been a great one to work on. VERY rarely is a popular fantasy sword designed to have ACTUAL sword proportions. It really lets them focus on the art of it, rather than the "how the hell are we gonna do this" aspect. XD

The blacksmiths that made things like this were very very well paid. They were the most skilled of their regions and were usually employed by whatever ruling body that owned/supervised the land.
When it came to like general work or general military purpose, they had others for that.

Agreed, I feel the director of this show put emphasis always on their faces, their bodies, and hands. The blade is rarely in focus, and if it is, it's in extreme closeup and it's rare to see the blade given proper focus except for the pretest montage for 3-5 seconds. Unfortunate.

Yeah I can't even imagine how difficult how it would've been, also swords were kind of like a status symbol, if you had a good sword on your belt you meant something.
It definitely would have to temper that with the fact that blacksmithing without modern machinery was all they knew. Smiths would have been masters at using coal-burning forges. Also, they would have apprentices to act like their power hammer.
I think they main disadvantage they would have had would be the ignorance of metallurgical science, chemistry and techniques. Now, via the internet, a smith in training can access thousands of years of learning in the art of metal forging from all of the great smithing cultures of the world.

ZeD having to put detail in to iron/steel isn't easy. It's like comparing it to welding, when metal is heated to extreme heat, it moves twice as easily and can easily make details better, but is more close to being ruined.

Ever so sadly an actual silver sword would fold like butter against a hard object but perhaps silver reacts to things differently in the alternate earth that the Witcher takes place in. In our world you could mix it with another metal and it be harder but it's time consuming and costly
These are really stellar. More realistic weapons like this from high fantasy please. It might be cool to see some gunsmith work from time to time to like Man at Arms: Reloaded or something.
