I discovered during the pandemic that two of my relatives are welsh. One lead the welsh miner’s strike. And the other is in Cardiff, and is a fluent welsh speaker. This is for them, that I am learning welsh.
Because my ancestry is Welsh, I am just now learning the language... Thank you so much for these posts, especially the ones with lyrics in both languages, it's gratifying and exciting top me how many of the words I recognize now without even looking... and being able to verify the ones I'm less certain of is golden! Diolch iawn!
Mae gen i achau Cymreig, hefyd. I've been trying to learn to get a little closer to my roots. I've still got a long way to go, but I'd definitely say it's worth it!
This touches something deep in my soul, even though I´m not welsh, and not even an english native speaker, either. It´s not only the music, it´s the welsh language, triggering something in my DNA. I feel connected in an archaic way and not only the mermaids tears but mine as well pour to this piece of heritage - sublime tears of astonishment and joy. I´m quite sure JRR Tolkien took the welsh language as template for the Elvish languages. Btw. Tolkien resembles a word in my language meaning audacious, and I´m from a town north of the former Limes (some wall fragments still visible) called "Wels". All coincidence I guess...
