Several things wrong with the value calculations. 30 ounces of gold per book? Those books look like they are maybe 100 sheets, or 200 pages. That would mean 0.15 ounces of gold per page. That's pretty much impossible even if he covered the whole page with that ink. Then, 30 ounces of gold is worth $6000? That would make gold worth $200 an ounce. At the time of this episode, it was at least $800 an ounce, probably more. And see another earlier post here, that you couldn't make ink with molten gold, it would have to be gold powder that could be suspended in the black ink, what they call these days "shimmer." Well, suspension of disbelief and all that.
