Thank so much for this video. I'm 66 years old and been practicing trad archery for 3 years. This year was my first season hunting. I've seen deer but not in effective range. I hunt public land as well. It's been such a great experience I can't wait to get back in the woods and learn as much as possible.
You are very welcome my friend, I appreaciet you taking the time to watch and comment and if you do get back out this seasons, I wish you the best of luck and that your arrow will fly true. I hope to get back out maybe one more run back to Oklahoma if I can pull it off. Thanks again for the kind words and I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale
Cool video. I gave up the compound for the longbow 3 years ago. No kills yet, few misses, few close calls. But all great memories. Definitely challenging, but I love it
Thank you so much friend for sharing your story with us. I love the challenge with the long bow and or recurve. It defiantly changes the way a person plays the hunting game and I believe with all my heart, it will make a person a better hunter. Thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend. If you are still out in the woods some, good luck my friend. Dale
Thank you so much my friend, it has been a lot of fun. I appreaciate the kindness and I hope you have a blessed weekend. If you can still get out some good luck my freind. Dale
Great narration ! Reminds me of those old hunting shows from long ago ! Alas , Trad archery is a deeper connection that you live . Not just an act you experience. It forces one to slow down , concentrate more closely , commit to it with all that you are today and decades to follow . The harvest is secondary to the path that never ends . Bonne chasse mes amis partout !
Thank you so much for the kind words my friend Thank you, I agree, you nailed it, it gets in our blood. thanks again for taking the time to watch and comment and I hope you have a blessed weekend. If you are are still out in the woods, good luck my friend, and may your arrow fly true. I hope you have a blessed weekend. Dale
Great channel. The philosophy that you use on traditional bow hunting is spot on. I also use a flintlock Kentucky rifle on my deer hunts. I just prefer hunting primitive imo it bring me back to how our ancestors procured food. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us my friend. Thank you and If you get back out this season good luck and I Hope you have a blessed weekend. Thanks for the kind words as well my friend. Dale

great and true video , started trad hunting last year took a doe , this year nothing , but it keeps me coming back to the outdoors , i just wish i had some ppl here in central ky to do it with
Thank you so much for the kind words my friend, I am glad you already have had some success with it, I dont care what it is, trad hunting, they are all trophies in my book. Thank you for sharing your story with us and I hope you have a blessed week. If you do get out some more this year, good luck friend and may your arrow fly true. Dale
@@donwaldroopoutdoors3665 You too my friend, Merry Christmas , many years back I stayed with a compound bow during black powder and rifle, have never really gone back hahaha. SO I get it. Fun times, keeping it fun for each one of us is what it is all about. I recall a time when I was a kid, my dad got so mad at me because I wanted to use my bow to quail hunt, he said if I take my bow, he isnt going to take me quail hunting. so I didnt take it. I will always wish I did, I was so much better back then.
My journey with the trad bow started 6 years ago when my son wanted a bow. We built our first two from maple boards and they worked just fine for fun shooting. As it developed I purchsed a longbow to hunt with. In South Africa we have many wonderful species to hunt, but a different system. You pay allot for what you aim to hunt, so the pressure to succeed is more intense in a way. Sadly to say I wounded a Kudu and an Impala in 2 consecutive years. And it cost me quite a lot. Decided to recalibrate by journey - equipment change, training and injury recovery set my target to attempt again in a year or two. It is truely a patience journey. I would love to hear what you share in the vids to come to get met to that dream of my own kill. I however have learnt it is not about the kill, but about the hunt in all it's aspects. Thank you for sharing your story.
Hunting with your son is awesome, Some of the best memories I will always have and cherish are the times my dad checked me out of school for a week at a time so we could go learn how to bow hunt together. I too understand the pressures of hunting and I will commend you for recognizing there needs to be some changes and or something to help so we dont injure the prey. To me there is nothing worse than injuring a game at any cost, so that part, I truly can relate with. We are starting some new videos this coming year on bowhunting and I will be sharing the lessons I have learned along the way, Oddly enough this video is the Segway I am using to start those videos as well as explain why I have changed up my preferred method from a longbow or recurve back to a compound bow. I will go more into details as those videos come up and address some other issues I have seen over the years with this challenging way to harvest game. Thank you so much for sharing some of your experiences with us and I look forwards to hearing more from you and your son's adventures along the way as well. Have a blessed weekend my friend. dale
Great video! I can relate to this. This is my first season here in Michigan public land. Hunting from the ground with a recurve. Oh man, it is hard, but I'm enjoying it. I'm still learning, I know. I hope I can get at least 1 deer before the season ends. 🤞
Thank you for the kind words and good luck to you out there my friend. From the ground is even more intense.. One of mine I harvested was from the ground as well. Good luck to you as you continue your season and may your arrow fly true my friend. Keep us posted and again good luck friend. have a blessed weekend. Dale
I have been hunting with and making my own trad bows for 20 year now. I have shot multiple deer. Like you said it is harder which makes the success that much more rewarding !!
Oh man congrats to you on making your own bow. I have made one osage that shoots and One, which is maybe half way there and have not completed it yet, one day I would like to make another and hunt with it, one day. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment and I Hope you have. a blessed weekend. Thanks again, Dale
One bit of advice I'd give to those new to Traditional Bowhunting, or moving into it after hunting with a Compound Bow, is that it doesn't have to be an all or none game. You can take the trad bow on some hunts and a compound bow or rifle on other hunts. I started off hunting with the trad bow in the early season when it is warmer and there is lots of vegetation and cover. If it is bitter cold, or no leaves on the trees, or I'm hunting a large green field or power line, I'm probably going to carry a weapon with more reach, that doesn't require me to get so close. Sometimes, if I'm out of venison, I'll still take the compound bow or rifle out for a few hunts and put a deer or two in the freezer….then I can enjoy hunting the remainder of the season with a trad bow (which is my preferred method) without feeling pressure to fill the freezer.
Amen, This is very well said my friend and I think all to often you are correct, too many times folks will get it In there head that it is all or nothing. That mind set makes it more difficult for someone like you mentioned if they are hunting to the meat in the freezer, I did have to switch back this hunting season to my compound bow, for that exact reason, I was for the most part getting a harvest every other year with the trad bow set up I have used and Ran out of meat, we generally can use two a year to help offset some cost and give us good meat. I also made a move and do not have the hunting opportunities I used to have when I lived in Oklahoma, so there was no real way for me to make up for those extra days in the field I was missing. So I certainly agree 100% on this. Thank you for sharing and I Hope you have a blessed week friend. If you are still out in the woods, good luck my friend. Merry Christmas and have a blessed week. Dale
Pretty cool video. I went full trad for the last 4 seasons now. I’m a bit different that most trad hunters, I’m a bit picky. Don’t really need the deer meat, I live on a beef farm and my son takes a buck each year. I’ve taken two decent bucks, haven’t fired a unsuccessful shot. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a good shot. Just have good woodsmanship and hunt close. One at 8 yards and one at 12. I absolutely love it and will never pick up a compound again. Thanks for the video, I enjoyed it
Oh wow, thank you so much for taking the time to watch and share your story with us. I love it. and I agree, the close shots are the ones that have helped me with my harvest as well. If you are still out in the woods, I wish you success out there and may your arrow fly true. Thanks again, have a blessed weekend my friend. Dale
I use to shoot a compound in my teens. Got married had kids so I stopped or forgot. Now divorced got a midrange compound I love to shoot, and 3 trad bows. An ilf which is top of the line. A starter bow I got cheap. And my custom bow which is eye candy. Compounds easy but trad took a good bit to get groups. I'm not an elitist archery is good for the soul so both compound and trad bows have there place. And we can all be honest today's trad bows are still refined with modern materials unless it's a self bow, it's the tradition of a bow that is fulfilling. The bow is a tool that helped get mankind to where it is now. We all have ancestors that survived only because they exist it's honorable.
