  • Ramatuelle is a French commune in the Var department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It is located on the peninsula of Saint-Tropez. Pampelonne beach, Cap Taillat and Cap Camarat make up its coastline.
It is a medieval village, picturesque, coiled on itself which rises on the buttress of the hill of Paillas in the heart of nature.
It thus dominates the entire Bay of Pampelonne and the agricultural plain, at an altitude of about 130 meters.
In summary, Ramatuelle is a peaceful village without exuberance which contrasts with the more "people" and trendy side of its Pampelonne beach.
    THE HEART OF THE VILLAGE
The heart of the village presents an original snail configuration.
The architecture of the village core is typical of Mediterranean villages, revealing porches, stairs, passages, squares, narrow cobbled and flower-lined streets, a church and its bell tower. The ocher facades and pastel shutters are embellished with jasmine, honeysuckle and Bougainvillea, a real treat for our awakened senses. Its craft, painting and primitive art shops which open in old cellars dug into the rock attract a large number of curious people every summer.
Typically Provençal, the picturesque medieval village of Ramatuelle is the promise of a charming stopover in the heart of the Var countryside. Perched on the foothills of the Castellas massif and overlooking the bay of Pampelonne, it stands out for its tranquility and authenticity. The heart of the village is characterized by an original shape: that of a snail. By following the narrow streets, you will notice an architecture representative of the Mediterranean villages. Porches, passages, squares, pretty flowered houses follow one another around the craft shops.
Ramatuelle has some interesting curiosities such as the 19th century Eiffel staircase located on Place Gabriel Péri, the old prisons built under Napoleon III, the Font-d'Avaou washhouse dating from the 17th century, the Sainte-Anne chapel or the Notre Dame Church.
In summer, the village comes alive thanks to various famous events such as the Ramatuelle festival, Musiques en Liberté or Jazz à Ramatuelle.
Not far from Saint-Tropez, on the Bay of Pampelonne, in the Var department, lies Ramatuelle and its many delights. On the hillside, the village overlooks incredible landscapes and the vineyards of the region. Between Pampelonne beach and the pine forests of the south, nature is omnipresent on the site.
Jewel of the Côte d'Azur, Ramatuelle offers a typical architecture of the old towns of Provence in spiral. Winding streets and old stones are the rendezvous of this charming village.
In the smell of jasmines and other honeysuckles that invade the village, we appreciate the ambient sweetness of life, and we taste the culinary specialties of the region such as anchoïade, bouillabaisse or Provençal stew on the terrace of one of the many cafes.
This land of artists, which has been able to attract renowned actors and highlight culture throughout the years, still seduces tourists from all over the world with the beauty of its nature and its environment.
Located in Provence in the department of Var, the territory of Ramatuelle is separated from the rest of the canton of Sainte-Maxime by an arc of wooded hills which make it an isolated watershed. This territory includes two coastal plains, a shoreline of more than 16 kilometers made up of the vast beach of Pampelonne, other smaller beaches, and capes Camarat and Taillat (this one for half with the neighboring town of La Croix-Valmer ). The village, typical of defensive perched sites, rises on a foothill of the hill of Paillas at an altitude of about 130 meters south of Saint-Tropez. It dominates the bay of Pampelonne and the wine-growing plain.
    Neighboring municipalities
The neighboring towns are Gassin, La Croix-Valmer and Saint-Tropez.
One of the dolmens of the Var closest to the seaside is in the town of Ramatuelle in the bay of Briande. The Briande dolmen is located on the western part of the Cap Taillat peninsula two or three meters above sea level. Dating from the end of the Neolithic period, it is made up of shale slabs planted in the ground. , the only remains of the burial chamber, the door and the corridor having been destroyed. Excavated in 1939 and 1958, the site yielded tools: arrowheads, polished axes, etc. The remains of pottery are abundant there. Quartz pendants, greenstone beads and human debris were also found. Archaeologists have deduced that Cape Taillat was at that distant time inhabited by fishermen39.

hidden from... the many tourists we can see in the video ?
Ramatuelle is one of the most touristy villages in South of France, a horrible place that lost its charms 30 years ago. on par with St-Tropez, Gordes and other tourist traps
