I invested the 2 minutes to remove the top of the washer. I didn't find any broken wires, but I re-seated all of the connectors in case they had vibrated loose over time, plugged it back in, and no more E8 error code! Thanks for the guidance that this video provides.
Thanks much for this! Checked all connections and found controller harness touching the drum with a purple wire worn out - less than 50% remaining, spliced then reconnected. Viola! our WF1104XAC is washing again!

Man this is crazy. I found the cut wire. what is weird is that its 3 to 4 inches shorter than the rest of the wires in the harness. That one wire had to be pulled as tight as a guitar string while the rest of the wires had plenty of extra length.
