James Brown may not have been a "perfect" man, but on stage I think it can be argued that there was never a better singer/bandleader/performer. It was all there.
How in the World have I never saw this before? This made my day. Funk will live forever. Bootsy don't get enough credit for changing James style and along with James Bootsy is the father of Funk.
And Bootsy was a kid back then. James youngest band member ever. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah I love Bootsy. What kind of kid tours with the best band of that era.....BOOTSY!
I think George and Bootsy are the funkiest men in the world but James was doing it first. Bootsy also influenced George music to a whole different level. Gorge music changed for the better when Bootsy got on board.
Huey Faggins For sure, James was the OG. But in your original comment you said "along with James, Bootsy is the father of funk" so I just thought Dr. Funkenstein belongs in that sentence as well
But when I listen to Parliament, it's not George, but Bootsy's Space Bass that won't let me keep still. Still, George's production skills can't be overlooked. It's no coincidence that "Freaky Styley" is my favorite RHCP album
He was made for and enjpyed what he was doing. The gift is the gift. I saw him in 1968 and I was only 6. I can still remember that historical show like it was yesterday.
The lady talking in the beginning said: They say James Brown is made up of 3/4 business sense and 1/4 talent .. WTF He was more like 110% talent 80% business sense 100% soul and 500% coolness
Those vamps are killer -- the brief instrumental grooves when Bobby Byrd addresses the audience. More ideas there than you can find in today's Top 40 combined.
Great shot at 8:58 when on James Brown's squeal signal, the band instantly goes into "Ain't It Funky Now" and you can see how Bootsy Collins on bass and his brother Phelps "Catfish" Collins on guitar move in unison to the new groove.

Wow thanks for this!!!! For anyone intersted this set is basically the same as their Paris gig ,guess part of the same tour. That Paris live set is the Love Power and Peace Album released a few years ago.
I love the moment where JB is calling for Catfish and he doesn’t hear him and says. “come on Phelps” “Hit me” then Bootsy has to yell “Phelps!” And then Catfish unleashed a fire ass solo 34:30
Awesome video , James Brown at his prime with one of his best bands the Collins Bro's,Bootsy and Phelps, Fred Wesley, Bobby Bryd . Thanks for posting .
Avevo appena un anno allora! Appena 18 anni dopo ci andavo vivere a Bologna e lì ho passato i migliori anni facendomi un sacco di canne e ascoltando il mitico James!
I live half mile from that venue,it is still there today,i was 3 years old back then,my mom and her brother were there, both are passed away,it must have been a wild night,my uncle saw Jimi Hendrix as well in that very same place, years later he told me both shows were great, miss those times ,thanks for uploading!
Bobby Byrd came from a musical family! He and his brother did well as did Bootsy Collins in the 70's! But only through the exposure and experience of James Brown!
Everytime I watch this, I can't wait to hear young Bootsy destroy that bass! When he's playin Sunny! I just crack UP! That band that band that band.. Everybody was just killing it!
The Collins and the JBs where funky early! All people loved James Brown! How many black people had a show on TV in the 50s?He broke barriers and changed the very course of music in America as well as abroad!
James sang Sunny on here. Elsewhere he snag If I Ruled the World, That's Life which are slower songs he did great on. James was underrated as a ballad singer.
key pieces of the "PFUNK DYNASTY"...Bootzilla, Catfish Collins on guitar and Frankie "Kash" Waddy on drums...this was when the "ONE" was defined. Too FUNKY!

the hardest working man in show business. caught his shows in the 60´s,70´s,80´s. once at a record sighimg. me, my 2yr. old daughter, my 8yr. old son, and his new album in hand, in line for a autograph. when it was our turn, i froze and was speechless. he says´´wher da bab shu aa´´ i just stood there, mouth open, trying to talk. again he says´´wher da bab shu aa´´! my son, seeing me in trouble looks at me, james, then my daughter. hollers out´´he saying wheres the baby shoe at´´? true story...
It's kinda funny feeling when I see Byrd was emceeing and introducing JB in such a passionate way. I mean, Byrd himself was the one who provided "the first big help" in JB's musical career. He was a real pro without any ego-nonsense... RIP Bobby Byrd & James Brown
I think it comes down to entitlement. Entitled people tend not to enjoy what's right in front of them in that moment, and are constantly thinking about what they want in the future. Instant gratification and all that. The typical entitled white Americans (and yes, I am one of them, I just realize how boring and "unfunky", as George Clinton would say, we can be) tend to be the ones demanding that the band play that one hit song that the radio overplays, and get angry and can't enjoy themselves until the band plays it. Those who aren't entitled enjoy all of the grooves for what they are, enjoy the moment for what it is, and overall have a better time and dance more. If you watch an old parliament/funkadelic concert in LA, Oakland or dc and compare it to some of their concerts in rural/suburban America, it's night and day when it comes to the crowd energy.
Right when James sings his last note on "Sunny" and does that final scream, the camera pans out so perfect lol you couldn't have planned that right there man.
Man, how amazing this is ! As far as stage entertaining is concerned, this guy had it all : the voice, the moves, the energy, the passion, the emotion, and what an awesome band ! I had chills when I heard their rendition of Sunny at 12:20 What an incredible performance. I will credit your video and post a small clip on my own channel for my suscribers to enjoy ! Thanks so much for uploading this...Pure gold !
Young Bootsy smashing those fast tempo busy basslines, DAMN! The audience only just givin' up the funk at the end of the performance. I'd be givin' it up from the first hit!

There will never be another band like the J. B's or the one of a kind master himself, James Brown. Any others will be imitators of the originals.
There will Never be another Entertainers like “James’s Brown” Mr. Dynamite King James 👑
James Brown may not have been a "perfect" man, but on stage I think it can be argued that there was never a better singer/bandleader/performer. It was all there.
"God Bless You". I couldn't had said It Better!

James Brown is the hardest working entertainer in the business R I P J /B
The Band musicianship is absolutely MasterFul . James Brown and Bobby Bryd are Superb.
This performance is my favorite. The band is just ridiculously out of this world. James Brown was a genius.
What about George Clinton? Funkadelic's first album was 1970. And that ish was raw, uncut funk

I saw James perform in Frankfurt, Germany a year or 2 after this concert. He was electric!
A master at work! Butane James was and will always be the king!

Facts 💯
Best music to make me move. What a god!
I love the way the band looks at him, right when he's dancing and in his mode lols and plays right to his movements too!
I won't let up and du. My hair du two
Qtiputamagala Larry GRAHAM!!!!!!!!!!!
JB was conducting his orchestra with flair and intensity.
Thank you so much.
This one should be in the running for best videotaped performance ever.
Bobby was funky. Him and james were like hand and glove.
James drove his band hard and they played hard. What a great performer James was and what a great band he had. Thank you for sharing.
That's actually why I prefer Wilson Pickett over JB. The Pickett was not a martinet and the band could match the JBs hands down
I missed this concert by a measly 4 months :) Am i the only one who cant keep his eyes off Bootsy? Awesome upload!
Bootsy is killing on the bass.
I wish I could of seen him live .. But that was way before my time.. Im a fan of him even tho IM in my 30s I loved his music
Indimenticabile ritmica e movenze da vertigini con un finale da brividi. James Brown immenso

かっこいい ><!!若かりし頃のJBを生で見たかった。貴重な映像をありがとう!
That night I was in Palasport in Bologna, as a young student I enjoyed very much the show!
saw james when he was 60; full split w/ mic stand upside down on stage edge, to a full stand w/ the mic in his hand, wailing, the MAN DID IT TWICE LOL AMAZING show, nothing like him before or after THANKS JAMES
They absolutely kill it.
Wow! Do your thing, Baby Bootsy! Y'all rocked the Italians!
..that should have been posted, 'do your thang'
Wow thanks for this!!!! For anyone intersted this set is basically the same as their Paris gig ,guess part of the same tour. That Paris live set is the Love Power and Peace Album released a few years ago.
I love the moment where JB is calling for Catfish and he doesn’t hear him and says. “come on Phelps” “Hit me” then Bootsy has to yell “Phelps!” And then Catfish unleashed a fire ass solo 34:30
He probably lost some money for that.
@@donaldthompson7766 Haahh 😄 I was thinking about that too.
Yeah that's cool
Also at 44:28. A little before his next solo he says “dont be so late phelps” then jb does his little thing right before his solo.
You caught that too. You know he got fined for that. Then when James is doing It's A Man's World he tells Phelps don't be so late!
Awesome video , James Brown at his prime with one of his best bands the Collins Bro's,Bootsy and Phelps, Fred Wesley, Bobby Bryd . Thanks for posting .

Fabuloso, siempre lo he admirado desde 1970 y más 💋🦖
At 13:12 is when Bootsy did his thing. As a child I never liked that song but after hearing Bootsy play it! This man is the greatest of all times...
Great James. I had the luck to listen to one of his last concerts and he was awesome. I couldn't imagine the groove in 1971 !!!
Everytime I watch this, I can't wait to hear young Bootsy destroy that bass! When he's playin Sunny! I just crack UP! That band that band that band.. Everybody was just killing it!
He is the BEST ever. What a genius for the sound he created .
53.44 "take your time Bootsy!"~ Mr Brown always in control..nice one....great one too Bootsy!
As an Italian I'm impressed by the quantity of footage material of James Brown in Italy. Some of the most popular performances were recorded here.
Yes indeedy....James Brown is trash after 78 ...like most things that didnt survive the 80s
Incredibbile come la TV italiana degli anni '70 spiegava tutto tramite graziose presentatrici acculturate....
The Collins and the JBs where funky early! All people loved James Brown! How many black people had a show on TV in the 50s?He broke barriers and changed the very course of music in America as well as abroad!
And James owned a bunch of radio stations also.
It's a damn shame he had to break barriers.
James sang Sunny on here. Elsewhere he snag If I Ruled the World, That's Life which are slower songs he did great on. James was underrated as a ballad singer.
