I can only say that I’ve only enjoyed eating Dungeness. I reflect back to when we visited Tofino and I asked the merchant on the dock how to cook a Dungeness. We were
newbies to British Columbia let alone the west coast and so I knew nothing. So, this person told me as she picked up this large Dungeness to knock it between the lookers. Apparently, I had a very confused look on my face. After all, I had just graduated from the RCMP Depot training world on the prairies after having grown up in southwestern Ontario. And so, she in her extreme level of patience demonstrated where the horn was between the eyes (lookers), imbedded an axe in a stump and caught the crabs horn on the tip of the axe thus lifting the entire shell and killing the crab instantly. She lifted the shell, cleaned the guts and then split the body in half over the blade of the axe. I was enthralled for sure. What a shame our today’s technology didn’t exist back in 1983. But, we picked up some crab and knocked them between the lookers when we got back home in QB. They were delicious for sure.
We have not seen our sailboat since before the wildfires here in the Shuswap this past August and so are looking forward to getting to Deep Bay to clean her up. Our goal is to mirror your explorations or perhaps stray somewhat and perhaps make our way into the Bering or further. We are certainly older than you guy’s hovering around 70. But, what’s in a number right?
Anyways, we are certainly enjoying your exploits and perhaps someday we will meet in person somewhere along the shores of this beautiful coastline. Regards, Larry and Marianne

Haha! Wow Tofino gal definitely had a knack for taking care of Dunges proper, impressive!🪓 Just a number is right, stoked about those plans you guys! Hope you can get back to and out on your boat soon! And yes we’d love to cross paths in an anchorage one day soon, cheers!

That inlet you were anchored out in is pronounced Kwaw - Koom . We used to pull in there in my salmon seining days . We never got any crabs there either . Not too crabby a spot I guess .One time we were heading in there for the night a seiner ahead of us bounced over that rock . A few boats have hit it apparently .i really enjoy watching your videos . They bring back many many good memories of my time fishing the central coast .

Allison & James, hi from Calgary. Thanks for that all your episodes in fact. A chill couple sailing a reasonable boat up BC waters taking it ass it comes. More concerned with enjoying each others company, sailing and adventure in the Pacific NW than anything else. The food my gosh kudos to both of you. Time for the 'Cooking w/Allison & James Show'. A part of the world you can get lost on purpose in or lost with a few other boats. But very definitely waters you have to know how to sail its serious water.
I've grown tired of those Caribbean waters only channels, yammering on about their new 5M custom built Cat that takes more time for warranty maintenance haul outs than enjoying the sailing. Well done totally enjoyable (Young Cruisers Best New Channel vote yes,)

I have eaten a lot of crab growing up in the bay, so have tried both methods tons of times. I'm a cut up my entire pancake/waffle then eat it kind of guy but I'm with James on this one. The crab is warm when you eat it as you pick it because it's shell keeps it insulated. Eating a pile of cold crab is definitely not the vibe lol and for some reason it's flavour seems to be ever so slightly different if you stock pile it
