ZOOM and I go back a LONG way. Back to last century. Remember the 9030? the 9000? The list goes on. I've always been drawn to their tech approach to guitar gear. The G6 is the latest offering from Zoom. It doesn't disappoint. They've bundled 22 amp/cab sims in, 70 IR spots (you can bring in your own too), TONS of effects, USB 2 x 2 audio stream capability (not shown in this video) ... lots of stuff. Sounds? They're great too. You can tweak them to make them sound the way you want but the starting blocks are cool. It's not expensive either. Will it do what you want? Probably. Check out the video and the official page. Rock on.
・ 16 types of standard amp models + 6 types of ZOOM original amp models
・ In addition to 22 types of cabinet models, 70 IR data are pre-installed.
・ ZOOM original effect: 2 types of distortion + 3 types of modulation
-IR loader function that can read up to 2048 samples, 120 in total (70 presets + 50 users)
・ Up to 7 effects + 1 amp model (or up to 9 effects) can be used at the same time
・ 240 types of effect patches can be stored in memory (for both factory and user)
-4.3-inch touch screen with swipe, drag and drop operations
・ Looper function that can record phrases of up to 45 seconds (monaural 90 seconds) and 68 types of rhythm pattern functions
・ 2 in / 2 out USB audio interface function
-Send / return terminal to which you can connect your favorite external effects
-Stereo AUX input terminal that is convenient for connecting music players, etc.
・ Expression pedal for foot control of volume / pitch / wah, etc.
-SD card slot that can read external IR data and expand / save looper recording time
-Compatible with the Mac / Windows software "Guitar Lab" for which additional effects / patches can be obtained.
・ You can use the iPhone / iPad application "Handy Guitar Lab" with the optional Bluetooth adapter (BTA-1).
・ Extend the product warranty period to 3 years with free online user registration
    External dimensions: 228 mm (D) x 418 mm (W) x 65 mm (H)
    Weight: 1.94 kg
Guitar: Strats. 2011 Eric Johnson (at the end of the vid); 2020 Ultra Strat.
    Cables: Providence and Boss
    Power Supply: ZOOM PSU
    Mic: Samson Airline77 (me)
Camera: iPhone 11 Pro and Canon D60
    Soundcard: PreSonus Quantum
Desktop Monitors: PreSonus R80 R-Series Active AMT Studio Monitors (www.presonus.com)
    Computer: 2017 Apple iMac Pro, 2.5 GHz 14-Core Intel Xeon W, 64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro Vega 64X 16 GB
Software: Logic Pro X, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Compressor.
This video was requested and sponsored by Zoom's Australian Distributor, Dynamic Music. I get the G6. Yay.

@Darren Harper I hear you brother digital stuff can be tricky but it gets the job done and its like jack of all trades but master of none. It's kind of like a smartphone, like they say the best camera is the one you have with you all the time. Analog are like a real camera with interchangeable lenses and stuff, there is endless possibility to what you can do and spend as much money as you want and get results but it depends on what you want to achieve. If its only a social media post of your dog you want then phone camera is fine but if you want to shoot for a magazine that's paying you insane amount of money then yeah by all means. It is what it is just another tool in the guitar arsenal. Analog has their own shortcomings too like faulty cables and scratchy pots not to mention hefty price tag and need for a amp, cab mics and all that jazz to carry around. The G5n you mentioned doesn't have IR capability and this one does which makes world of difference. Cheers and keep making music!

I bought the G11 a few weeks ago. I love it. Soo easy to program songs/set lists per bank. I used an IR from ChopTones that came in their G11 packs Everything I ever wanted on a floor controller. Zoom sucks re: community involvement / market for presets, etc; but if you don't need that. I too had a 9030 in 1991-92 :) Best Regards and subscribed.

Can you do an extensive video on the Zoom g6 and the best ways to run this (directly into amp cab powered or non powered, directly into amp input, through effects loop, etc). I purchased this as a budget friendly option to maximize tone capabilities but I am struggling to get good sounds, I don't know if its how I am physically connecting this thing, my lack of understanding how to build up the effects in the device when to use amp sim, cab sim, IR or what. All the videos I see on this are just reviews telling us that its a good value for the budget but there is nothing great out there on how we should be connecting it to amps or cabs or PA systems. Keep on Rockin'!!!

I still use a Zoom PS02 Palmtop Studio for silient practice. Still sounds good considering its an early modeler. For the uninitiated, it's a 4 track digital recorder with amp/effect emulator section with built in programmable drums. First to use ZNR. There's no digital artifacts in many of the patches and has a good amount of parameters to tweak. I wish they made similar devices like this instead of field recorders. Boss has them beat with the BR80 is the only device similar to the PS02 that is still being made.
Zoom has the worst user manuals and funky UI, but the sound quality is great. Once you get used to menus and functions, it's quick and easy to use. I have a used G6 pedal as my first new Zoom product in 2 decades.

I understand this is a stripped down model from the G11, but no MIDI?? I get it with very basic units like the NuX, but for a $400 mid-level unit, no MIDI is no bueno. Sounds good, though.......

Midi is overrated. There are better and more important features to focus on.

actually the buttons implementation usually involves MIDI on one or two config, so wouldn't be surprised if the USB eventually will accept a MIDI message through a converter device. MS50G until G1xon accepts midi message through a USB Host device.

I'm a Zoom user but honestly I think G6 has nothing to do with Pod Go in terms of sound quality, amps/cabs emulation and effects ... and both are in the same price range. I expected more from this new G6.

I took a pass on the g6 I’ve got a couple of mg-30. Zoom really lost my business!

Doesn’t sound all that much better than old digital stuff. IMO, the NuX products have a more natural sound to them.

Major disappointment! I just got mine and attempting to add a wah and volume gives me process overflow error. Zoom can do better.

Doesn't seem much better than the g5n, they really should have put more dsp in this
It sounds very similar to the g5n too

Still got that digital tone to it where other digital multi effects are now getting the tube like tones - you just don't get the vocal quality of a valve amp like you do with other leading multi effects products. Not a processor for me as ive never liked the distortions and overdrive on zoom units but their modulations are brilliant. Mt Pod Hd500x does a better job for amp sim than this.

When they went from the G3/G5/MS generation to the G3n/G5n/G1F generation, they did three things that completely killed these products for me:
1 - They designed them to be either used thru the front input of an amp or FRFR/desk: With the mic sim on, it's voiced for PA/desk/FRFR, with the mic sim off, it's voiced to compensate an amp's tone stack... which of course is never quite optimal for _your_ individual amp. There is just no option that is suitable for using the amp modeling into a power amp and speaker or for 4CM, now that it has an FX-loop.
2 - They dumbed down the effects, e.g. reverbs that have no tone control (you need several different reverb models to do what one reverb of the last generation could do), EQs that have no volume control (so you can't use them as boosts or attenuators).
3 - The expression pedal is hardly integrated at all: You can only use it for a single "pedal effect" in your chain.
On the pro side we have the button layout, the touch screen, custom IRs and the FX loop. Custom IRs are only relevant if you go direct live (not even for recording) and the greatest advantage of an FX loop - the 4-cable-method - is impaired by the amp modeling's voicing and dumbed down effects.

I couldn't believe when I went from the g3 to g3n that they took out the 2nd page of parameters on all the delays and reverbs. And the scrolling setup was so dumb. Now at least you can select what effects the pedals control.
