It's weird to say, but the fact that you keep fighting William over and over throughout the game really makes it feel like a rivalry between you and G. Every time you meet him, he's grown stronger than ever, but so have you.

It's heartbreaking to hear G1 Birkin yelling "Help MEEE..!"
I’ve always imagined that G1 Birkin still had at least some semblance of humanity left and was constantly fighting with G for control over his body, but was officially brain-dead after reaching his second form, G effectively sniffing him out and taking over completely.
Not to mention, the last thing he ever did before becoming G2? Killed the Tyrant that was threatening Sherry. Birkin may have been a horrible person guilty of crimes against humanity, but I like to think that was him actively trying to protect his daughter before finally succumbing to G.

Also, think of the pain of feeling your bones twist and rip through your flesh, as well as your flesh grow and squeeze your vital organs inside. That also reminds me, think of all the feelings of your inside, as you feel it grow and rip and twist and protrude out of your body. Wonder how many heartbeats he was feeling, and how many lungs that were erratically breathing in and out independently from one another. I’d definitely be suffering, but that’s my opinion.
