Definitely check out Kissing The Shadows - infamous guitar/synth dual solo ending with the most insane shredding on both instruments. IT's very famous and soooo super sick! Follow The Reaper is their best album, which that song is on. Besides Kissing The Shadows, I'd recommend Mask of Sanity, super accessible and melodic but also fierce and heavy. Rock on bois ! \m/

I have some great melodic and heavy suggestions from COB. "Silent Night, Bodom Night" is brutal.
Next we have "Hate Me" and "Taste of my Scythe" .
"Bed of Razors" is also an amazing song and one of my personal favorites.
"Not My Funeral", "Done with Everything, Die for Nothing", "Downfall" to name a few others🤘🏻

This band helped me get into more extreme stuff. They'll always hold a special place for me, and RIP Alexi Laiho, dude is an absolute legend and helped shaped a lot of modern artists going back to solos in the early 2000s. Follow the Reaper is my favorite album. This one (Hatecrew) really launched them into worldwide fame. Kissing the Shadows and Northern Comfort are amazing songs. That second song was supposedly written as a album filler last song and MAN does it shred.

Children of Bodom brought the unison Keys/guitar sound associated with prog to the death metal scene and actually composing songs with that in mind, making it de facto super melodic. First "heavy" metal band i listened back in high school. I think that most people, me included, would put Follow the Reaper and Hatebreeder as their top records. Maybe check Bed of Razors for a very keyboard centric song (for death metal anyways) or Kissing the Shadows for the guitar solos we love so much. Finally, i'd say their most popular song is probably Everytime I Die and my personal favorite is Silent Night, Bodom Night. Have fun discovering COB 😃

You really need to do one of the songs with a crazy piano solo. Like stuff from the Albums Hatebreeder or Something Wild. For example Silent Night Bodom Night, or Lake Bodom or smth like that.

I always considered this song about heartbreak, with the angel being the idealized version of a partner he was with and that partner breaking his heart and plunging him into a deep depression. A bit more emotional vulnerability than you typically see in extreme metal but also part of why Alexi was so great. RIP Wildchild ❤️

    - Roundtrip to Hell and back

    - Silent Night, Bodom night
    - Sixpounder
    .. to name a few!
Applying the idea of drum fill but doing it with the guitar or taking an idea from one instrument and applying to another instrument in general is actually something COB
did quite a bit in Hate crew deathroll. Jaska Raatikainen (the drummer) mentioned this in a recent interview with Anssi Kippo (the producer).

Richard has such impeccable taste when it comes to finding stuff to show. It's broad and includes big household names and classics many metal fans will instantly recognize, but manages to be quite approachable at the same time. Every other video I go "oh yeah, of course, damn, that one!"
Hate Crew Deathroll is such a blast from the past btw, Sixpounder was literally the first extreme metal song I ever heard. I was 12 years old, or something, now well into my thirties and still think this album's a banger.

Love COB! Red light in my eyes 1 and 2 have pieces of Mozart And Bach in the songs. Would be a great reaction. Cheers!

Considering Janne Wirman was a Jazz pianist it isn't surprising to hear interesting harmonies throughout Bodom's discography

Maaaaan I wish you guys had done Chokehold off of this album. Still, cool to see Bodom appear. Just feel like this song didn't really convey how insane the keyboardist can play. But gotta start somewhere ig. Cheers

My recommendations for more Bodom would be the songs Lake Bodom off the album Something Wild and Triple Corpse Hammerblow from the album HateCrew Death roll. Love COB and love what y'all are doing. Keep it up guys!

COB yeah! Do the downfall, do the downfall! It’s weird that Roope Latvala is concidered best metal guitarist in Finland, but he was second best in that band. Alexi was amazing. There is nice video on youtube, where they shred Vivaldi four seasons with guitars, Alexi and Roope. Check that as well. And there is actually very nice live version of Downfall as well.

Alexi and Roope were in a band together called Sinergy before he joined CoB. Definitely check that out to see them trading guitar solos!

Definitively give "Every time I die" a chance, one of COB greatest songs. There was a side project from Alexi and his former girlfriend called Sinergy, they have some great songs like "I spit on your grave", "Midnight Madness", "Beware the heavens".

There's pretty much two eras of Bodom: Neoclassical and not neoclassical (I'd say that this song is the latter option)
The neoclassical stuff is on the first 3 albums and song recommedations would be: "Everytime I Die" a slow song similar to this or "Downfall" a faster song that just kills.
For the not neoclassical an absolute metal classic "Are You Dead Yet" a must listen to anyone who's getting into metal, and probably my personal favourite Bodom song "If You Want Peace... Prepare For War"
And for context the first 3 albums are definently fan favourites for the neoclassical sound which was so unique so most suggestions are from that era.
