  • My visit to Joey Jordison during the 2013 Slipknot concert in São Paulo, Brazil.
Joey had a Pearl Reference kit with a custom finish and Paiste Color Sound cymbals.
I did a short interview with his drum tech, Norm.

@@patientmental875 You're right, there are a lot of unsung hero's for the musicians we idolize that are responsible for a slew of upkeep, constant repair, tuning, the changing of strings or heads, on and on. My hat's off to all of these gentlemen and ladies; as few as there may be.

@Corby Jenkinsburger You guys are hilarious, nobody said Joey's playing wasnt good just saying his kit & what came thru the PA sounded good because of this dude & others

@@patientmental875 this post was created to appreciate the support that artists and musicians rely on to perform their show. Nobody is trying to diminish Joey’s talent behind the drum kit, that’s obvious. What is not obvious is all the work by others (talented in other areas) that went into say having Joey drumming on a spinning and elevating platform (for example). To pull that off, you need a civil/structural engineer, probably a mechanical engineer, a draftsman, a metal fabricator, a welder, a hydraulic manufacturer, an operator to control the assembly night after night. Then there’s crewmen to break down and load all these one-of-a-kind machines. Then there’s all the truck drivers and all the support they require to ship all of this heavy and cumbersome gear from city to city. Then there’s the unload and re-set-up at the next stop, hoping nothing was damaged and hoping Joey will be able to get into and out of the machine without problems. Yeah Joey is talented as f***, but many others are involved in the concert that should be at least acknowledged and appreciated.

As a drummer myself, who grew up listening and playing drums to Joey.. that would be like the ultimate dream job for me to have.. no matter how grueling or monotonous it might get doing the same thing over and over before every show.. to be his drum tech and to mess around with that kit everyday I would be in heaven and I would never get tired of setting up that kit lol. Joey had been using the hydraulic drum riser for over 10 years at this point in his career, because he started using it around 2001 during the iowa/disasterpiece era. When he would go vertical the pentagram would light up under him. Rest in peace Joey. You'll always be my favorite drummer and a inspiration on me.

It was very special because I wanted to see Joey playing for a long time and I even had the chance to watch their soundcheck from the stage side! Norm was super nice and he took the time to record the video interview with me. I am very thankful that Joey let me do the visit!
