    I love your explanation about how information is either stored in a specific file forever, or it's a sticky note that slides off the front of the filing cabinet. That is (not exactly) how I've described taking information in (learning) my whole life - I either grab it and it's there forever (along with what day I learned it, where I was, what I was wearing, who I was with, the weather outside, and what I ate later on), or I'm like teflon and it hits me and slides off never to be considered again. I'm so glad I'm not the only one who feels this way - thanks!

    It feels like, I’m always saying, why am I waiting on them to get it? When I worked in electronics, I was always fixing problems that shouldn’t have happened in the first place, or that’s how I felt about it, school was always waiting, and waiting, I could never understand why I was waiting constantly on everyone else, I wanted to get it done and move on to the next thing, I love my alone time, it’s a relief to not have to be around so many people anymore, I loved when at school and work, playing a prank on them, having things done and then letting teachers tell me to finish my assignment, then saying, but I’m already done, I also loved doing that same sort of thing to my boss, she could never figure out how I was doing the work so quickly, and they’d always try to find a flaw, it really was fun to watch them watching me trying to figure out how I was doing it, and they never did figure it out, it’s one thing to be the odd one, but it can be fun too messing with people, because you know they can’t put you as being odd and smart together in their mind, so they never figure you out, it’s like people have a love/hate relationship with us, we’re sweet people, honest and hard working, but we just don’t really give a crap what you’re babbling about!lol

    "Hard to be normal"... Half the time, I don't understand what other people mean, because they use words so imprecisely. "Turn left?" "Right" turn right "Why'd you do that?" "You told me to turn right." "No, I meant you were right." "You mean you meant I was correct." "Jeez. . ."
    Anyone who has had this same conversation with others, raise your hand.

    Just wanted to say thank you for the end of your video:
    "Another way of looking at is that I've been given some amazing gifts and these gifts make me 'special'--again the opposite of normal. So every gift that I have makes it harder to be normal. Even something basic like being extra creative--hard to be normal. Being extra intelligent--harder to be normal. Being more logical than others--hard to be normal. Every gift no matter how good it is in some situations makes it hard to be normal in other situations. And for me that's what Aspergers is."

My relationship with her has been really strained because I just don't fully understand what she goes through in her mind. All I see from the outside is her anger and frustration. I'm not trying to compare her with other people who have autism. It's just that I love her very much and I want to learn more about her condition and how she thinks.

    Have just found your videos. Adorable. I believe I am an Aspie too. As a child I was sure I was adopted by humans BUT my real parents were dragons...(!) I was the kinda child who is reading "teenage" books in age of 3 but trying to figure out how to smile the right way - using the mirror. Always separate, lonely, misunderstood, contempted. Bullied in school. Had to learn how to take part in conversation - it was always a kinda exam to me - interacting with people! I still have great problem with phone calls etc. I feel very safe watching your videos, like a meeting with an Aspie friend :) gonna stay here. Thanks for all!

But with most people I can’t seem to get more than 2 words out and I feel nervous and tense and feel like an idiot.😕😕 and it just happens. I used to think that I was just shy. And I always always try to talk more but it only works for a few moments Because it’s not natural for me ..

    This resonated with me so much. "The gifts" that make it hard to be normal... they actually alienate me from others many times. People will say things like... "what can't you do? or "well, you just know it all don't you?" These comments always confused me... I never knew how to take it.

    Yes, I understand about the file cabinet. I have told others it's like an electric train track if it does not go a certain way it will never reach the docking point. I normally have a learning curve when it comes to "understanding things in a normal manner." Use to be in what my school called special needs class but they couldn't understand how to help me. But when I finally understood I helped those that the teacher couldn't help at all.

How do you define ‘normal’ in respect to the human condition? Aren’t we all individuals with multiple identities and wide variations in how we interact with others? We all live on a spectrum of human experience.

Even know I'm 10 years plus therapy and everyone around me personal or professional still have me explain this over and Over. Its circles and circles. They all understand and dont get it all in 1. My fault I suppose. But everything is now becoming illogical to me. I dont know how to navigate in this world. I have no mask for it. I wish i was diagnosed in my younger years. Would of helped massively. Although that was early 80s. There was only rain man back then. I went to therapy cause I couldnt b in this world anymore. Now i wish to very much. But putting a name on it didnt help me. The realisation the light bulb moment of what it ment. THIS IS WHO I AM. Rather than I'm broken and just need fixed. No asperger's garage in my town. Anyways thanks for using the correct words logically. Havent related to anything for a while.

    Hello there, i have a question:
    Is there a difference between aspergers syndrome and high functioning autism? If there is , can you please explain further?

    • @autismfromtheInside
      @autismfromtheInside  7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Aspergers is an informal subcategory of autism. Some people might refer to it as 'high functioning', but I find this unhelpful because it masks the difficulties faced. It also makes the 'autism spectrum' sound like a linear continuum and implies that the 'low functioning' end is much worse (i.e. 'disabled' - which is not necessarily the case). In that sense 'functioning' might be better replaced with 'high pretending', the better someone is at hiding their difference and passing for 'normal' the better that person can 'function' in a society that does nothing to help.

    • @Wherethedeadwalk

      High functioning autism is another term for Asperger’s

    • @anniebird248

      The DSM-5 equates Aspergers as ASD Level 1. I agree it makes Autism appear linear but nothing really is.

    What you are saying about yourself with the facial expression and vocal tone might come across as “Humble Bragging “ to some people in which case they might think you are arrogant and looking down on them and they might choose to not interact with you sometimes

    • @sydthegoat88
      @sydthegoat88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Or they are just arrogant/deficient themselves and realise they feel uncomfortable around someone who is genuinely intelligent. Bullshitters, wankers and sociopaths would sweat the most, but when they realise they have a social advantage they often use it cruelly and feel justified/empowered. Real easy to gaslight an aspie especially when socially isolated. So having a rare skillset and saying it/ knowing it is more of an advertisement than a brag.

      It saddens me that society demands that we conform to the status quo to be more widely accepted, especially as we grow older.

  • @chinmeysway
    @chinmeysway 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nah. Define what normal is first. Otherwise there’s only strawman argument / logic. you can’t define it and it’s in flux everyday. If there’s no normalcy or pedestrian idea that it’s hard to function for those who don’t want to fake social routine of bs then those problems are separate from being an innate condition of some sort.

    I am not an Aspie.It is not true that we can read other people faces.Or other people's mind??!!
    Most "normal"people dont have empathy at all.

      You clearly don't understand Autism Spectrum Disorder. Aspergers is a form of it, I have it, and it's very frustrating to say the least when people think just because we're not non verbal and can be really intellectual that it's "mild." It still affects me and causes me struggles every day. I rock back and forth (called stimming) and struggle to make eye contact and conversation with most people. As well as having sensory issues.. Please do more research before making ignorant comments and assumptions.
