I can't imagine being disappointed with a 2:34:xx time. If I finish a half in that I think I'm not too shabby! Love you content, love your spirit - excellent running!
Amazing, been waiting for this one, watched Kelly's yesterday and now yours today! Loved the change of attitude, that runner who went past you absolutely soaked it all in and thats a lesson for everyone.... even if times dont go our way, enjoy the experience!! Fantastic effort in that heat mate, now onto the next major!
Thanks mate. Yeah he spoke to me before he went past and said times were out of the window in those conditions and that he was just going to soak it all up. It's a fantastic race and I definitely want to go back. Glad you enjoyed the vlog, and Kelly's too. Next up London!
@@TheWelshRunner I'll never forgot in Copenhagen; a female runner in front of me ran through the HUGE support of her local Danish run club, flares, horns, high-5s, everything, she lapped it in. Then we turned a corner, into a quiet side road with no crowd and she started walking with 15k to go. The emphatic highs and lows of a marathon. Nothing like it. Almost had tears in my eyes when you saw Kelly, something special about the marathon distance, that's for sure.
Awesome video! How happy to see my footage being used:-) great to see you at k 34.5:-) conditions were so hard. REALLY GOOOD Job Matt! Thx for the inspiration!
Thanks so much for the footage. Really appreciate it. It makes the vlog so much better when I have video from out there on the course. I hope you had a great day supporting 👊
So inspirational Matthew. I'm starting my sub-3 journey right now. Did 3:05 earlier in the year and can't wait to break the 3! Will be using what I learn from your videos.
What an amazing time! Completed my first marathon (Philadelphia) last month and now currently figuring out the process for fundraising for the Chicago Marathon! Started watching your videos long before I was marathon-ready, but have enjoyed the whole time!
I don’t think there’s a typical marathon runners body. I think you look amazing and I don’t doubt you could run 2:30. In this day and age people should know by now. I’m glad you didn’t take offence but still people shouldn’t say that. I’ve seen so many bodies run marathons and I think it’s just so amazing!
What a great vlog. I was waiting for this one. Congrats with this great run. I did Berlin marathon too. And the heat did „kill“ me too. But it was very nice to race again in this great city.
11:23 "I haven't got the typical marathon runner body" OK, I ran a couple marathons in the 4 hours area. Guess I don't have a marathon runner body either. Hah!
So great to see the brief buildup for this marathon, but my gosh, this vlog was AMAZING! So many clips, angles, everything-very well done! Oh, and congrats on a killer time on a really rough day!
Love the insights and also your challenge! As a former D1 rower, I've determined to also finish all six major marathons until the age of 35, so in 11 years. I know this is going to be rough, but I'm motivated by stories like yours and those race day vlogs to accomplish it
Great running Matt, tough conditions! I remember running london in 2019, I finished 9 minutes slower than the previous year, but finished higher up the rankings. The heat had such an impact! Great video as always. Love the banter between you and Kelly 🤣👍
Great running Matt, that heat looked brutal. Always hard to know whether to stick with the pack or let them go. Think you made the right decision and helped me confirm my strategy to run my own race at London on Sunday. Looks like there could be some strong winds in those last few miles. Really enjoyed the vlog and good to see you 'Express Yourself - do do bam do bad da ba dum' :)
Well done pal! A fantastic insight into a marathoners experience during a long race weekend. Loved it. I was there at Berlin too, the conditions were brutal, at times the course was quiet when you needed a raucous crowd, and that final 10k was hard. When folk say empty the tank in the final 10k it doesn’t always mean lightning speed does it, but to leave it all out there. And we all did. I can’t stop smiling still. It was a special special race. Cheers mate
what a video.. loved that. Brought back so many great memories of Berlin and race day. Great performance under very tough conditions. Brilliant content as always
Thank you for these insights, Matt. This was one hell of a race but you are one hell of a runner!!! Congratulations on phenomenal performance, proud to have followed your journey and equally excited for your next race. Your video editing skills are now at a new level mate, the music, stories, footage and background commentary was fully entertaining! There wasn't a dull moment at all. All the best for next race, you got this!
Well done Matt. That was great. I’ve looked forward to this. You’re a great runner and this is a great channel. You’ll be on 100k subscribers before ya know it. Brilliant race. 🏃🏻♂️ ✊🏻
Late to the party, and what a great video you have done to document the experience you went through, really enjoyed it, certainly inspires me at 41 to try and do something like this if possible( doing a marathon ) , even tho i only took up running back in May 2021, new subscriber as well
What a boost of a positive video Matt/Weslhrunner🙏🏃♂️🙏 Great to be back in again! Keep showing up for training, and I know you’ll have plenty of progress.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it. I’m really excited about my next block. This one was bitty because of trying to blend ultra and marathon training but I’m excited to go back to basics.
Incredible! How can people run so fast and make it look so easy. I can do his race pace for about 1 minute, then my recovery time would be about 2:35 😞
Congrats Matt! The conditions were tough this year in Berlin... It was a pleasure to meet you after the race! I don't know if you remember speaking to me after the race. I managed to pb by 5 mins! I finished 30 seconds after you and spotted myself in the background of the video at 22:04 😂 I was too busy trying to get a selfie with Shalane Flanagan 🤣
London Marathon is absolutely amazing bang for the buck, Berlin is middle of the road. It's still very reasonable compared to the USA World Marathon Majors...NYC marathon is around $250!!
Well done Matt! really enjoyed the vlog and all the Berlin experience. It really helps to boost my motivation towards my marathon race (only in 20 days) I will have very present about the heat and try to pace myself accordingly, just hoping to finish strong. Already nervous just thinking about it..hehe. Let´s kick those 10k subs very soon!! Cheers
Great video matt. These European people love to criticise, I was once told i was to old to do sub 3 in my 40s. Did it the next day with a pb. Keep up the good work.
I'm gonna say the guy who made a comment about your body is probably just jealous of your speed :) Congrats on a great run!
I can't imagine being disappointed with a 2:34:xx time. If I finish a half in that I think I'm not too shabby! Love you content, love your spirit - excellent running!

I have to stop watching these videos at night in bed because they get me so pumped up I feel like going for a run after watching them! Well done 👍
Amazing job! Can’t wait to see you in Chicago!

Well done Matt, sensational time. And a sensible strategy given the conditions.
Thanks Daniel. I was happy with my race but look forward to a cooler race. 👊
Brilliant vlog! This has got me very excited for Manchester in just over a weeks time!
Still a great time. You’ve given me extra excitement: I’m soooo looking forward to London this weekend.
That pasta looked incredible! I’ll finish watching the rest now……

This channel deserves more subscribers
Love the play-by-play race commentary! Great video, can't wait to run this some day 🙏
Thanks ben. Glad you enjoyed the format. Definitely put it on your bucket list. Might see you out there as I want another crack.
What a great vlog. I was waiting for this one. Congrats with this great run. I did Berlin marathon too. And the heat did „kill“ me too. But it was very nice to race again in this great city.
Thanks for taking the time to share the experience with us…was great, nice one boyo !

OK, I ran a couple marathons in the 4 hours area. Guess I don't have a marathon runner body either. Hah!
You know you're good when you're not wishing for the end or a marathon 😁 I'm wishing for the end, the day before.
🤣🤣 I was wishing for the end but then the guy having so much fun ahead reminded me that we choose to do this and should have some fun 🤷🏻♂️🤣
So great to see the brief buildup for this marathon, but my gosh, this vlog was AMAZING! So many clips, angles, everything-very well done! Oh, and congrats on a killer time on a really rough day!

Not afraid to admit that got me in all the feels. You and Kelly are so inspiring xx

Well done, mate! Epic footage..!! Thanks a lot for taking us with you on your run;)
Well done, Matt. Strong run in spite of the heat.

You did it!!!! Good job, dude. Y'all are so inspiring.

Great vlog and amazing running! You gotta put some of that awesome b roll in the beginning of the video rather than the end!
What a boost of a positive video Matt/Weslhrunner🙏🏃♂️🙏 Great to be back in again! Keep showing up for training, and I know you’ll have plenty of progress.

@@TheWelshRunner You are doing great, and as long as you’re injuryfree you are getting stronger - on almost any distance✅🇳🇴
It's insane that 2.34 is still 109th place. The standard is unreal. Great run, must have felt nice to catch a few lads on the line.
Thanks so much really enjoyed following along your experience! Photo of you with your medal is fantastic!!!
Great video! Huge effort in those conditions!
Berlin looks amazing!!
Thanks a lot! I really appreciate that.

Inspiring stuff....mostly the volume of food you can put away! Well done to you both.
Well done, Matt. Great race and video. Looked like a tough one, not like all those other, easy marathons lol. 👍🏻🏃♂️
Thanks. Great that you liked the video. Good point, not sure I’ve ever had an easy marathon but this was definitely on the warmer side.
Good job my friend. Thanks for sharing. Amazing 👊🏼

Easy watching, not too nerdy and hunanlike. Good time on the run.
Love the vlog. Great time. 👍
Congrats!!! Great race.
Pretty crazy the think the winner split 1:00:42 and 1:04:57
Even when they “bonk” they will go supersonic
Awesome job!
Great race congratulations 👍👍👍
Amazing time and a great vlog Matt 👊🏻
As a triathlete I am used to pay 600 euros for raceday....I would get two jackets next time if I were you :)
