I don’t know why I got emotional watching that, having already done the emotional bit on the day… but I did. We are proud of you, and you kept your promise to Harri to bring him home a medal. He doesn’t give two hoots what time it took to get that medal, only that you brought one home for him. That makes any Dad a hero in a child’s eyes. You didn’t give up when it wasn’t your day, and yet again that speaks volumes. Love you ❤ 🦜
The support you give Matt is amazing. The best of luck to you on your running journey. When is Matt gonna put his life in the line to get some footage of your next run🤔😂 Seriously though. Amazing couple. Live long and live happy.
Well done Matt, as a mom with four kids you taught your son a valuable lesson today, you can’t quit when life gets hard. Like running, life won’t always go your way and you must press on anyway. You should take pride that you’ve SHOWN, not taught, him this valuable lesson. Proud as always!
You should be proud of yourself, your partner, your kids and the fact that you put yourself out there for all of us runners. Amazing effort Matt. Love watching someone doing something from the heart. Respect to you now and always. Bring on the next one
I’m not crying! Blimey, that was emotional. Well done Matt, you gave it your best shot which is all you can do on the day. Really good effort, be proud of that 🥰🥰
Your race day vlogs are the best on TH-cam period! So honest before during and after allows all standards of runners to relate. Great effort, on to the next one 🤜
Well done mate! I know it was a tough one for you. I overpassed you around km 38 and tried to cheer you up . I also had a very difficult end of race. Keep going , because you already know what you are capable of ! Cheers from France
Great work, Matt! The marathon is a beast and it can bite at any time. I'm very glad to see you push to the finish even when you knew any goal time was long gone. Great recap, thanks for sharing!
Great vlog and thanks for sharing mate!! Love that you fought with all you have and didn’t give up. Even when physically you’re cramping up. Aaaah the beauty of the marathon hey! See you at the next one, either Manchester or London 😉 thanks to you and Kelly for the support! Onwards and upwards!!
Big congrats mate, having done my first a few weeks back and getting absolutely no where near my goal this is an amazing effort and can totally relate to the ups and down mentally
Wow. I feel emotional too! Something about watching the journey and feeling how the race must of felt having done a few myself. The emotional side knowing all the hard work is done and the family being by your side through it all too, is something very special 💙 well done Matt 💙
Well done Matt, a great performance on a short block. Your determination and commitment to giving it 100% even when it gets tough is inspiring! Hope you enjoy some down time and fast 10ks
Brilliant stuff Matt, it just proves that the marathon distance is no joke. That last 10k is something else! You’ve inspired me to be in a good place for Amsterdam next month. Rest up and come again. Well done Kelly for the support 👏🏼
A huge well done. As you said and as we know, marathons can be unpredictable. I did the Sydney Marathon a few weeks ago. Was cruising to a comfortable sub 4 when cramp decided to join in and scuppered my plan. I finished, no lasting pain (the beers helped), but most of all I was proud of what I had done and so grateful of the support from my wife and friends throughout the training and on race day. Again, congratulations and on to the next race.
Congratulations Matt. I know it's not the time you wanted but you should be immensely proud which I'm sure deep down you are. I have watched your vlogs for a few years now and being of similar age (I think!) You continue to inspire me and many others. Keep doing what you're doing and you'll get there. I just managed to beat my 10K last Sunday by a minute. Anything is possible. All the best👊
Awesome ! Thanx for sharing ! I folliwed you by the tracking function in the Berlin Marathon app ! Try loading breakfast cream coffee ! Fantastic performance ! ❤
You do a great job with the vlogs. Realy honest and we can relate to it as runners and also learn. Nice to talk to you at the finish-line , througt a got about the same time as Valencia or a bit slower but it turned out to be a 6 second PB. (2.33.36) We ll keep on running and aim that sub 2.30 marathon, age is just a number. Keep up the good work
Amazing journey! Even you didn't break your PB, but still a very good race. I see your efforts, your spirits, and your ambition. Respect... Looking forward to seeing your next race. you can do it!!
I totall agree that marathon is so emotional. Having done Sydney marathon and calf cramp at 18km at 27c max and crippled to the end was hard to swallow. Congrat Matt, you finish it and had great family support.
Damn! These marathon race vlogs get me all the time. It's great to see the raw emotion from race day. Hoping to do my first marathon in April and i just know ill be a blubbering mess after it 😂 Great effort Matt! Sometimes its just not your day. Looking forward to seeing what you have lined up next. Keep up the good work
Seen a lot of running vloggers who struggled to get a PB in Berlin this year. I kinda feel like the early overcast skies fooled many into running a bit harder, and when the sun popped out during the late stages especially running slightly uphill, the solar heat caught up to some who had already emptied a good chunk of their tank
Well done Matt, must of been tough to feel it slipping away, but you stayed strong and got to the end. Still an incredible time considering it didn't work out on the day! 🎉🎊🏅
I know it can feel a bit of a let down after having good feeling before race but everything can shift instantly and is within us to handle the situation to take the positive outcome. Still a great time, but sure better times will come ahead. Cheers Matt and be very proud!
Thanks Rafal. Appreciate the support. No, legs felt amazing on race day. Really poppy and fresh. I’ll go through why I think I faded in my next video but the session wasn’t the reason imo.
It's amazing how comfortable you were through the half. Absolutely floating through it, unlucky on the PB but fair play to dig in and get it done. It's always easier to quit 💪💪
You are an amazing athlete compared to 72 year old me, however, I thought watching your previous video filmed 10-12 days before the race was too brutal and nothing but energy sapping! In my limited knowledge a run of that sort is in your legs for the same amount of days as miles run and you were doing efforts within it. Therefore not enough recovery time. Please rethink that session and maybe do something similar 3-4 weeks before to aid recovery. To suffer like you did but still finished with a smile says a lot about your character but please rethink the recovery period as I guess you wouldn’t like to race a 20+ miler within the next 10days? Stay strong you are a quality athlete and I enjoy your postings here on TH-cam!
Thanks for the support and following along Trevor. I appreciate your feedback. There was nothing wrong with the session. I did the exact session 12 days before my 5 minute PB in Valencia. My legs felt incredible in Berlin too. The taper worked it’s magic really well. It was a lack of training rather than too much that was the issue. Saying a run will be in your legs for the same number of days as the number of miles is generic nonsense in my opinion. No offence to you meant by that because many people use generic rules too. Everyone recovers differently and that’s why it’s important to know the athlete and how they recover from certain runs when designing training. The stress of a run is also down to volume and intensity rather than just how far it was. I will break down what I think the reasons for my big fade are in my next video but the run 12 days is not a factor in my opinion. In fact I did a session 3 days after that and then a race where I ran really well 2 days following that. I was really happy with my taper and didn’t feel flat or tired in the first part of the race. My heart rate was not suppressed either which is a really good sign to me that I feel fresh and well fuelled. Anyway, thank you again for following along and your thoughts, I thought I’d just give you my opinion too.
@@TheWelshRunner Thank you Matt for your reply and I didn’t mean to cause offence and hope none was taken. I appreciate you know your body more that anyone and I am sure you have a proven strategy. Sincerely I wish you well and thought that I would just mention what was in my mind as an idea nothing more. Your running style is a joy to watch as the form doesn’t alter even when things aren’t going well just the pace is different. Again thank you for your quick reply and every future success to you. The marathon is so unpredictable. 2:31 is still a great time. Well done! The PB will have to wait but it'll be all the more sweet when it comes.
Big congrats mate, having done my first a few weeks back and getting absolutely no where near my goal this is an amazing effort and can totally relate to the ups and down mentally
Great effort, my man. Way to hang in there. Thanks for sharing!!🎉

Wow, brilliant vlog Matt and Kelly. Really felt the emotion through out that. Brilliant effort Matt well done.
Congratulations!! Fantastic effort. Nothing to be ashamed of either! You left it all out there on the course💪
A great race vlog - you deserved all that amazing support out on the course ( Kelly was as usual fantastic 😀)
A gutsy run. Well done Matt 🎖
Well done Matt, a great performance on a short block. Your determination and commitment to giving it 100% even when it gets tough is inspiring! Hope you enjoy some down time and fast 10ks
Fantastic achievement again Matt well done. And Kelly is such a legend, giving great support as always
Brilliant stuff Matt, it just proves that the marathon distance is no joke. That last 10k is something else! You’ve inspired me to be in a good place for Amsterdam next month. Rest up and come again. Well done Kelly for the support 👏🏼
Great Video. Thanks for sharing both of you!
Great Vlog. Fantastic run. That PB will be sweeter when you get it. I’m a bit emotional. Congratulations Matt.
A huge well done.

fantastic grit for sticking with it when things got tough. You may have lost the PB battle but you won the mental battle. Great role model :)
Well done, Matt! I know the result was not quite what you wanted, but you did not give up. Thanks for the inspiration!
Great video Matt, 2 weeks to go for Berlin Marathon 2024. Can’t wait!
Well done. It's a fantastic time that many people would be proud of. Great job 👍👏. You didn't give up and you fought all the way. Brilliant 👍
Awesome ! Thanx for sharing ! I folliwed you by the tracking function in the Berlin Marathon app ! Try loading breakfast cream coffee ! Fantastic performance ! ❤
Oh my I felt every second of this ❤
Yes!!! Very well done Matt!!! This is such an inspiration to me!! Beautiful video! Great job to both of you!!! 😎👊🏻🤙🏻💯
Thanks for sharing this Matt. Hell of an an effort.
You do a great job with the vlogs. Realy honest and we can relate to it as runners and also learn. Great to watch Matt and fired me up for the Marathon as it’s SO tough - great effort 👍
Great work, and fantastic resilience when it got painful as well as hard. I’m going to take that mantra- I can do hard things!
Great effort, cracking time, well done👍
Oh Matt 🥺. How brutal are marathons! Another fantastic achievement to finish on a tough day! Great video.
What are you going to do about the cramps? What do you think was the reason?
Awesome running Matt. You stuck to the plan and executed it well. Anyone who can do that in a marathon can walk away proud, PB or not. Very inspiring.
Great effort Matt and a great time 💪🏽.
Thanks Matt, very well done. Great effort, great series.
Great vlogg-you 2 are amazing! Cheers indeed
Amazing journey! Even you didn't break your PB, but still a very good race. I see your efforts, your spirits, and your ambition. Respect...
Looking forward to seeing your next race. you can do it!!
Well bloody done mate. Most of us can only dream of getting a 2:31 marathon, wow
I totall agree that marathon is so emotional. Having done Sydney marathon and calf cramp at 18km at 27c max and crippled to the end was hard to swallow. Congrat Matt, you finish it and had great family support.
Great job on the race. Marathons are brutal and you had an amazing time nonetheless. Amazing video and fight to finish it.
fantastic vlog, Thank you both

Great video, well done
Well done, that was awesome and very inspiring 👍👍
Congratulations!!!
Sorry for this ignorant question.
How did you get your prepared drinks within the race?
And at what distances?
Seen a lot of running vloggers who struggled to get a PB in Berlin this year. I kinda feel like the early overcast skies fooled many into running a bit harder, and when the sun popped out during the late stages especially running slightly uphill, the solar heat caught up to some who had already emptied a good chunk of their tank
You are an amazing couple doing amazing team work there. That’s the true gold standard 😃👍
Big congrats Matt. Well done and very inspiring 👍
It's easy to run when it's going your way...congrats getting to the end all too easy to quit but you beat the beast congrats

Congratulations!!!! My dream its too do down 3 hours!!! 👏👏👏👏
Tears
2.32 a brilliant effort Matt - maybe not hold back too much on the breakfast next time?
Incredible to think you’re disappointed with a 2:31 marathon. An incredible feat to finish a marathon never mind run that time!
Left it all in that final marathon training session? Well done, onto the next one.
Thanks Rafal. Appreciate the support. No, legs felt amazing on race day. Really poppy and fresh. I’ll go through why I think I faded in my next video but the session wasn’t the reason imo.

Bro's average pace is my KM PB
Racing a 10k the week before trying to run a half marathon PB a probably wasn’t the smartest
Need to be more conservative in the first 30k. Cant win em all, still a good time.
