Hi there, About 20 years ago i walked down Candlemakers Row during the day on the side of Greyfriars. At that time i wasn't aware what was behind the street. At the bottom of the street i got a horrible feeling that someone was trying to grab me through the fence and that there was a stinking smell although strangely i could't smell anything directly. I got the feeling that there was a powerful man there but also that there was many other people there just watching. These feelings followed me to the bottom of the street. I did walk back a short distance to see what was going on and to confront them, i could feel shivers down my back and i was very on guard. At that time i was serving as a Military Police Officer living in the Castle and not easily scared but i was that day. I looked through the fence and only saw a set of large steps through a metal fence . The feeling left me at that point. If i am on that street again i won't walk on that side of the road. Thanks, Steve.
Stevie D I want to travel to Scotland to see the area but a friend of mine advised me not to go there. I had a massive pulmonary embolism and stroke recently and it could harm me.
Hi Tom, Yes i would be careful on that one. I have experienced many paranormal activity over the years and it can completely drain your energy. Indeed i lived in a haunted house on a German Army Camp many years ago for over 2 years. Thanks, Steve.
Know exactly where you mean. I'm reasonably local and I tell visitors the truth. It's super-haunted. Why wouldn't it be. I heard the council had to stop, the ghost tours, because too many tourists were being hit, slapped, by the McKenzie Poltergeist.

Agree totally do not need so much screaming like this. People can understand with much less noise. We know what it is like to be afraid, and running and some crying would be fine, or even just a small scream at first just before they started running. Not sure about what "padding it out" means, but it did not need to take place in my humble opinion.

**long post, but pls read, but no mean comments please*** Definitely on my bucket list, especially given my family’s heritage is 50% from Edinburgh, and 50% from London, it’s in my blood, and for some unknown reason I feel strongly drawn to this place. It’s very, very possible, that some of my ancestors are buried amongst all the other bodies in that cemetery, because I know that a lot of my family members did swear allegiance to the king but refused to change their religious views, and we know that they were killed for it, what we don’t know is how many suffered that fate, but it is estimated to be at least 10 people from my family. It’s very difficult to trace your genealogy that far back, but in the most bizarre chain of events, when my grandmother passed away, as my parents were cleaning out her home, they found papers that dated back to the 1600s, with all the names of the family members that lived in both cities, but it didn’t specify which ones survived and which ones were killed for their religious beliefs. I say bizarre because every time we asked my grandmother if she knew anything about it, she would always deny it, and claim she knew nothing about it and that her family would never go against the king, but she was very old-school, and I think it was Shane that stopped her from telling us the truth, and while we have the papers, I think she had a lot more knowledge than what is written on those papers, unfortunately she took that knowledge with her to the grave. But again, it’s very difficult to put into words, but I feel like something is calling out to me as I’m watching this video, it’s calling out for me to come visit there, and pay my respects. Now that Covid restrictions have all but disappeared, I can finally start working towards that goal. I’ve never been to Europe in my life, my family immigrated to Canada in the early 1800s when we were still a fledgeling nation, but I have got to go back and re-discover my ancestry. By pure coincidence, I am an amateur paranormal investigator, as I believe I was born with heightened abilities, being able to see and hear things no one else can. Maybe that’s why I am so strongly drawn to this place? I really don’t know, I’m not some nutcase, sitting on a street corner with a folding table and a crystal ball, I just find the entire topic absolutely fascinating, and because I have a proclivity towards it, I just have to do this. I’m not afraid, in fact, it’s the total opposite, I feel as though I am being welcomed to come there. If there is something diabolical I do have the ability to feel it, and that’s one thing I want nothing to do with, and I will steer clear of it, so I’m not too concerned. I already have been scratched, kicked, punched, stabbed, bitten, and slapped during many investigations here in Toronto, so even if bloody McKenzie decides to make an appearance, I’ll be ready for it. I always carry holy water with me on my investigations, and you can make damn sure I’ll have it with me when I visit this cemetery…. Stay tuned, because I plan to do this hopefully by August. When I come back I will write a post on here to let everyone know what happened.
So well said. I do agree with you in many ways. Do carry that Holy Water with you!! My husband and I are celebrating our 40th anniversary in March and have experienced many hauntings, usually benign. Living in Philadelphia, there are many Ghosts about. Hopefully we can get to Grayfriars soon.
I was told my 9th great grandfather was a Covenanter who refused to sign allegiance with James IV. We all believed it for generations. When the university of Edinburgh published the official list of the witch trials … lo and behold there he was with his sister ..who were leaders of their respective covens. They were both assisted by the other coven members who sacrificed themselves in order to save the sacred knowledge. Our last name was anglicized to protect us from all future witch hunts. She could have been very catholic, or just like my family.. did not wish any harm upon you.

Many thanks to the narrator of this documentary, because you made the narration very clear and understandable. The guy with the 2 skulls close to him, spoke so quickly and even though I love his wonderful accent, it made it very difficult to understand what he was saying. I thought it was pretty good for a student project. I've seen major films with more screaming than this. Everyone is an armchair critic. Never you mind. :)
The music is ominous in and of itself. Been there many years ago but don’t remember anything wonky. My grandfather was born in St Boswell Scotland and we had family in Edinburgh. Good documentary
I agree!!!! This is a very interesting video but it’s really devalued by the bad try to make it seem like a scary video. Hey there how are you? Great doc thank you. I love old cemeteries especially the head stones some are quite lovely I do rubbings of them actually. I also love old abandoned houses, bridges etc... I photograph them in Black & White once in a great while I'll do the inside. My comment has to do with the plague of 17 century. Do you know how it started? It started over in Mongolia actually, the Mongol's would catapult dead diseased bodies into their enemies camp's. And while the ship's were loading up with supplies such as materials, silk etc... INFECTED RAT'S were stowing abroad the ship's gallows below, when done they'd set sail to Britain as soon as they docked boom 🌋 the rat's 😠 made home there. Of course the soldiers or passenger's whoever was on board were bitten by the flea's which carried the plague also the rat's made themselves right at home in Britain unleashing havoc on the good people of Britain, Europe etc.. I'm positive they traveled all over throughout Earth with supplies but, just so happened that Britain got the worst. Possibly/ maybe bcz that was the only place the ship's were headed. Idk I can't say for sure but it would seem to me they were all over however we don't ever hear about the plague here in America or where it started from in 'Mongolia.' Then I heard awhile back the 'Pied Piper' was real, I never knew it but, than again every fairytale has a kernel of truth in it as well as do all Myths. I read that the piper got rid of the rats then came back for the children! 😵 what a wicked/evil thing to do to the people. I believe someone cursed him - Piper or something or the towns people refused to pay him for services rendered of getting rid of the rat's ah, yes that's it. The mayor of said town utterly refused him payment. The Piper made another visit with a great vengeance in his heart he went back for the children. Great video my friend, again I say thank you so very much. New sub here. GOD bless you always I pray you have a most wonderful weekend. Peace out. ✌ 😏 ❤ 👊
A potentially good documentary ruined by childish screaming and nonsense carry-on! Next time you need to consider the age of the viewers you are targeting. I am not ten, I am nearly seventy!
I was an apprentice at a marionette theatre in London. The Little Angel, in Islington, was built on a grave-yard from a renovated building used by the nearby church. Apparently sculls were found when John was having the basement dug out. Spooky when you think marionettes may look /represent the art of raising entities.dead things cum alive like ghosts I never saw it that way. Just child's-play watching shows. Yet when i was alone backstage for an hour before the show, to practise operation, the theater was hushed; similar to a church's vibes but thicker more eerie That shrine to one man's art of the marionette was desecrated by his stupid, greedy ambitious wife after he died.Come to find out she'd hated me all along but had pretended otherwise RIP John Wright MBE.
This could have been an exceptional documentary had those growls, screams and naff historical re-enactments (that beheading for example) been left out all together. That aside it's a very good documentary and a lesson in how less is sometimes more.
It was a student documentary I made while doin my hnc in film the crap sound fx were used coz that was all that was available in the sfx library and the acting is shit is coz it was my class mates n some friends lol

Hi I have my own experience of this place which I never relayed to anybody. Last year I went up with my family to Edinburgh for my sister's graduation. When we arrived we checked into a local Airbnb and I told my parents I wanted to go and look at Greyfriars Kirkyard due to it's notorious history. It was raining that day and quite cold. I went down to the staircase which is the entrance to the cemetery and the church. Everything was fine and normal, and was very interested in the old church. However, when I got to the area where Mackenzie's tomb was located, I encountered a strange chest pain or stomach pain, don't remember (not too painful though) which I had for a few seconds, then it disappeared. I wonder, do people report these sensations?
I loved this documentary! Very well made! I just love history in general and I really love anything to do with the paranormal. I had heard of this place before, but had no idea it is this haunted, so thank you very much for making this and sharing it with us! I'd love to go to Scotland one day and if I ever get to go, I definitely would love to see this place. Thanks again! 🤗👻🖤
This is really well shot, I've been there at night and it was spooky asf without a doubt one of the scariest and most haunted graveyards in the world, you couldn't pay me enough to go in Mackenzie's tomb
My husband and I just came back from Edinburgh. I love a good cemetery and my kids love Harry Potter so decided to walk through it. There is definitely an eerieness to it. Later that evening I pulled up info on the cemetery and started reading out loud to my husband about some of the scary haunting when the smoke alarms in the hotel all went off. Hotel staff couldn’t figure out what happened. Our hotel was close to the cemetery. I decided to stop reading about it 😬
This is Executed very nicely Creepy intro, gets one in the mood for the grim tales about to unfold. Had a great time watching this, thanks for sharing! 👍👌🏼😉✌🏼🙈🙈🙈
27:41 seconds pic of pastor who died 2 days after exercise, there's ghost peaking out and around big gravestone behind him see head top left and its hand wrapped around the right side about 1/4 ways down.
You done a good job making this so u don't owe no apolize's to nobody for ur making of this .You done the best u could with what u had to work with & u done good .I wouldn't watch it late at night by myself & that says alot about me .
In the late 1700's, after Bans and proclamations, my paternal ancestors were joined in matrimony at Greyfriars. I am eighth generation from that event.
So lets get those misguided Millennial Paranormal investigators in there to stay the night and introduce them to the Poltergeist Phantom! I’m not sure who would scare who😉
I was there on Vacation in Edinburgh and i was on the graveyard and enjoyed looking at the old gravestones and i only learned about the spookiness of the Place later 😂
a good and interesting documentary! there are some places on this earth that host some much pain, violence and hatred that it isn't surprising to find the devil there. beware it's not a playground for ghosthunters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent documentary. Susan an myself, will be traveling that way in October of this year. Looking forward to visiting this creepy landmark. Thanks for posting.

I am an Edinburgh tour guide and whilst most of this documentary is historically acurate, there are many flaws in this tome. I take people to greyfriars each night and we experience many things but the mackenzie poltergeist is a myth. The real thing is in the south bridge ....
This was a great documentary! I only wish I could have seen the old collection of photos without their being overwritten . Credits could have alternated between the photos so weckukd have seen them unblocked.
Sometimes the spirits know what’s best. Ask them what how you can help them beg them to help if necessary . First make sure all your protection prayers are in order . Ask for st Michael to protect you you’ll know when he’s there . Second make sure the spirits are remembering who they are sometimes it gets a bit foggy for them be honest and kind . When it’s time to be be short and forceful but I doubt it will come to that and do not be afraid under any circumstances if you are hide it and be kind it could have been you .lots of prayer remember . If you let me know I’ll help and pray if you truly would like things to be better follow what I’m telling you it truly is the only way god bless and may he be there for you .
This place makes Bachelor's Grove look like Disney World!!! WTF!!! A lot of comments about the screams and growls being annoying...I loved it, gave me the creeps bigtime, and that's not easy to do!!!
I enjoyed listening to the history of the place however the special effects were off-putting and the abuse of religious picture of Jesus and the cross I am sure will offend a lot of people.
As human beings we contain energy which never dies some call it the soul. For others, they believe every spoken word hangs in the atmosphere for all eternity. This energy can be good or evil depending on the life which was lived, but a force which lives forever. Some even believe energy can remain in a familiar surrounding or in a piece of furniture or object. This energy can be found as an orb(upon death) both large and small, which in comparison to a battery, contains energy both weak and strong; the stronger the energy the larger the orb. What strengthens an orb is living human energy though the results are short lived and can result in manifestations and bodily injury to the living.
if this your first attempt at making a documentary then you are going to go along way . i found this doc to be clear and informative . i did read your wright up about the cheesy dramatics that you included in this doc to draw it out to make it longer only it seems that a few people did not judging by the comments that they put up . I dio agree that the cheesy dramatics were a bit over the top but for a doc that was made with no budget i will give a good 9 out of 10 . loose one point for the cheesy dramatics being a bit over the top :-}
Praise be to the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ . In the name of Jesus who has give us the keys to the kingdom I bind all the forces of darkness and plead the blood of muses over ant body watch’s this video Amem
My theory is that if you bury a penny with each body, the souls of the dead Scotmen will never leave that penny, and the undead will no longer bother the living.
Very nice documentary with lots of great history. Thank you for uploading and just ignore the haters. Haters don't know how to exist without hating. They would be great helpers to Bloody MacKenzie lol
People on a public social media platform are entitled to express an opinion and I've not seen anyone hating on anything. Some people don't like the loud screaming and other sound effects, that's not being a hater it's having an opinion and it's a perfectly valid one too. I see it time and time again on social media that people who can't cope with anyone who has a different opinion to themselves immediately squeal "hater", it's a sign of emotional immaturity.
I’m guessing that when the vagrant fell into the bottom of the crypt on top of the plague bodies, he somehow made ventilation for spores of some kind of mold to filter up into the top where the people go. I really want to know if anyone’s got in there to run tests on any molds or fungi growing in the crypt or around the bones or filter the air at all to see what could be in it
starquant As a Christ follower, I always pray over anything I bring home. You never know who might have owned it before, what it may have been used for, etc, and I avoid anything obviously occultic. There is such a thing as demons and items that demons are attached to, and you can accidentally bring them home with you. Just better to be safe and pray that any curses be broken and replaced with blessings.
Jackie Blu is that where the Gray lady is? Or does Fife have the Bagpiper that was killed because he warned his Laird that the castle had been taken so the cut his hands off and buried him under the stair or yard? Then found the skeleton in the last few decades ago? Yep, no hands on the skeleton
@@bartonbella3131 there's alot of places in Fife where theres reports of hauntings/ghosts etc every town has a story to tell.. I'm not sure where in Fife u are talking about as Fife is quite big... Dunfermline which is just 6 miles from where I live has alot of old buildings dating back, the Abbey church with its ruins all around it, its a beautiful place to explore. There is many a story of ghosts I have been told about in and around where I live in Cowdenbeath which is a mining town n surrounding wee villages... Peace out. ✌ 😏 ❤ 👊
Please don't do rubbings ... take a pic ... you are wearing down the stone.
Hey DO NOT CLEAN OLD GRAVES. We can already see that you are a narcissistic, stuck up bitch but don't destroy tombstones please.
A potentially good documentary ruined by childish screaming and nonsense carry-on!
Next time you need to consider the age of the viewers you are targeting. I am not ten, I am nearly seventy!
You old bastard. 😆
Ok boomer
Lighten up ya fud.
Crikey you're annoyed.
Bob Marshall i take it you are afraid of phantoms.
The scariest thing in that graveyard is the weird bald guy
great clip , it also made me very sad , deeply...... it might be the music ,..but also very gripping stores ,
thanks for making this
Just came across this. So very well done!! Presented the hauntings so
realistically. Now I have put this on my list for Hallowe'en!!
This is very interesting thank u I hv plans to visit Edinburg
This could have been an exceptional documentary had those growls, screams and naff historical re-enactments (that beheading for example) been left out all together. That aside it's a very good documentary and a lesson in how less is sometimes more.
It was a student documentary I made while doin my hnc in film the crap sound fx were used coz that was all that was available in the sfx library and the acting is shit is coz it was my class mates n some friends lol
@@thomson753089 It’s a student documentary? It’s actually really good for a student documentary! It’s saved to my favorites.
@@transwomenaremale thank you glad ye enjoyed it! alot of folk obviously dont read the descriptions to videos! lol me and my friends and class mates that helped doing the re enactments had such a laugh making this! and coz it was a student doc there was no money spent on this attal! only the bus price of the bus fares to edinburgh
Great documentary,, very well done. With historical facts to prove that the atrocities commited in this place were and are all reral...
Does no one ever read descriptions on yt vids??, This was a student doc I made while doin my hnc film course, of course its full of cheesiness and shitness! Lol the crap sfx is because of the shit selection I had from the sfx library and the crap actin is coz it was classmates and friends! None are drama students lol but the laugh we had makin this was priceless! Lol
Hi
I have my own experience of this place which I never relayed to anybody.
I imagine a Coveneter ghost in Greyfriar would be pretty pissed off about having the guy who tortured/murdered them entombed along side them.
Thanks for uploading...loved everysecond of it.
I decided to stop reading about it 😬
This is a great documentary but it is so sad what happened to all these people, it was too cruel for them.
I have watched this many times. Still enjoy the history
So it was an 18th century concentration camp.
Yes it was precisely that.
This is Executed very nicely
Creepy intro, gets one in the mood for the grim tales about to unfold.
I was at Greyfriars two days ago and I felt a very disturbing presence near George McKenzie’s Mausoleum
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, Very professionally done i'm amazed there was no money spent on making it, Thank you for posting your piece.
I'm liking this so far but the sound effects and screaming lady was a little much just a little. I'd watch it again
Very well done! Thank-you.
Good Documentary! You Rock!!! Please give us other documents, they're very interesting!!! Greetings from Italy!
What a GREAT DOCUMENTARY, I WILL GO HERE...
What a horrible slice of history for Scotland
Brilliant 👏 best I've seen well put together
Angels and Demons have always been with us in the world. But they have been here far far longer before humanity came into existence.
Yeah, I agree with most of the comments
No one mentioned the rather deformed skulls on the gentleman' s desk...great video, except for the screaming.😱
a good and interesting documentary! there are some places on this earth that host some much pain, violence and hatred that it isn't surprising to find the devil there. beware it's not a playground for ghosthunters !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent documentary. Susan an myself, will be traveling that way in October of this year. Looking forward to visiting this creepy landmark. Thanks for posting.
"He did not scare him self to death, How stupid to say that!!!,A Demon followed him home attached him self to that Preacher, The Demons knew that he was Praying to get rid of the Evil in this Place,They Put a stop to it Like now,Awful,You won't ever see me going there!!!!!"
Have always wanted to go the city of Edinburgh may come soon and visit. Not as a ghost hunter but just to see the wonderful historic city.
If you let me know I’ll help and pray if you truly would like things to be better follow what I’m telling you it truly is the only way god bless and may he be there for you .
billiant docu, lov th music/singing at the end
This place makes Bachelor's Grove look like Disney World!!! WTF!!! A lot of comments about the screams and growls being annoying...I loved it, gave me the creeps bigtime, and that's not easy to do!!!
In 2000 I went on a tour of Edinburgh but our guide on purposely omitted Greyfrires I’ve tried to make it back but hopefully before 2024
I enjoyed listening to the history of the place however the special effects were off-putting and the abuse of religious picture of Jesus and the cross I am sure will offend a lot of people.
Only the pc mob
Jesus doesn't mind, he's chill.
My last name is kirk.they say we are from Scotland. My family came to work the coal mines in w Virginia.
Wow beautifully tombstones and landscape 👍 great job 💘...Interesting.
if this your first attempt at making a documentary then you are going to go along way . i found this doc to be clear and informative . i did read your wright up about the cheesy dramatics that you included in this doc to draw it out to make it longer only it seems that a few people did not judging by the comments that they put up . I dio agree that the cheesy dramatics were a bit over the top but for a doc that was made with no budget i will give a good 9 out of 10 . loose one point for the cheesy dramatics being a bit over the top :-}
Excellent !!!!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Praise be to the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ . In the name of Jesus who has give us the keys to the kingdom I bind all the forces of darkness and plead the blood of muses over ant body watch’s this video Amem
May all the souls find peace 🙏💫Amen so mote it Be!💖
My theory is that if you bury a penny with each body, the souls of the dead Scotmen will never leave that penny, and the undead will no longer bother the living.
"This place for sure has Demons in it,Wow Very Scary!!!!!!!"
Very good documentary
I’m guessing that when the vagrant fell into the bottom of the crypt on top of the plague bodies, he somehow made ventilation for spores of some kind of mold to filter up into the top where the people go. I really want to know if anyone’s got in there to run tests on any molds or fungi growing in the crypt or around the bones or filter the air at all to see what could be in it
Such places are to avoid if you do not want to bring something with you home...
starquant As a Christ follower, I always pray over anything I bring home. You never know who might have owned it before, what it may have been used for, etc, and I avoid anything obviously occultic. There is such a thing as demons and items that demons are attached to, and you can accidentally bring them home with you. Just better to be safe and pray that any curses be broken and replaced with blessings.
I think you did a great job. I loved the cheesy dramatics. Thanks.
R.I.P greyfairs bobby
Lovely spooky documentary.
I loved the documentary... what are the buildings behind the courtyard? Residence?
Server anixety probably brought on a heart attack
Demons and Angels are really Ancient Annunaki Beings.
Not a chance, i'd go there alone at night. It's scary enough, in the daytime.
The demonic growls and scary music make this documentary more frightening to watch. Especially at night !
I really enjoyed this.. Im from Fife in Scotland....
A wee village my grandparents lived had reports of a grey lady at a castle on the grounds of the meadows, its an old ruin and creepy.. Fife is steeped in history and I'm fascinated by it.. Hope I've been of help.. 😀
I thought it was a great documentary. Thanks for uploading it.
Into heritage? Everyone who's interested should check my videos out on my channel. I travel up and down the country in all kinds of weather documenting my trips on Castles, Manor houses, Churches & anything else heritage.
best satire comedy on the tube!
Great cinematography! It’s like a BBC documentary! Awesome!
I've been in that graveyard a few times and seemed peaceful enough
Brilliant documentary
Wow, I hope to go there someday.
Too much screaming and camera shaking. Spoilt it for me ☹️
I like the demonic cow noises. I think this is a fun documentary and quite informative! Good job. :D
feels like I'm watching buffy
What’s a kerkyeard???
You're joking right? But just in case it's Kirk as in church and yard as in churchyard
