HAUNTED GREYFRIARS KIRKYARD EDINBURGH DOCUMENTARY

  • Edinburgh has a whole lot of haunted history for tourists to explore: ghost walks, creepy castles, sites of witch burnings. But this city in Scotland also has what some consider to be the most haunted graveyard in the world - Greyfriars Kirkyard.
    Most of the hauntings are linked to the ghost of George Mackenzie - a merciless judge who presided over the trials of the Presbyterian Covenanters in the 1670s. The Covenanters had petitioned the King to allow freedom to practice their religion without interference. To crush this rebellion against the Crown, “Bloody Mackenzie” was brutal in his out punishments, and imprisoned 1,200 Covenanters in a field next to Greyfriars Kirkyard.

    Good video overall but the graveyard isn’t called Greyfriar’s Bobby. It’s called Greyfriars Kirkyard. It’s no surprise that the graveyard is so haunted giving how many souls were buried there after experiencing so much pain at the hands of McKenzie. I’ve been many times and in a way it’s a very peaceful place but at the same time, there is a feeling of unrest sometimes.

      I agree. The Kirkyard is a lovely, peaceful place to walk around in during the day, but after dark it feels like a different place.
      I went into the Covenanter's prison as part of a tour in the pouring rain and really didn't like that area at all. I also went into the Black Mausoleum where the poltergeist is sopposed to reside and hated every minute of it, despite my best efforts to remain rational.

    I was here today (Halloween) for the first time. The covenaters prison was locked off, but I looked through the gate & I got hit with a sudden headache & felt really sick, then I walked past the tomb & had a really uneasy uncomfortable feeling. I'm not a believer in the supernatural or anything but it was so strange 👻🎃

      Wow. I've actually been in the black mausoleum as part of a tour. Although I didn't feel anything personally in terms of physical discomfort or pain it certainly wasn't a pleasant experience on a psychological level, the Covenanter's prison was basically a concentration camp afterall.

      Please do proper research on Sir George... did you know he was the main reason Witch trials were abolished in Scotland? Did you know he founded a public library for the city of Edinburgh? Did you also know he went on to defend covenanters in court later in his career?.....
      Didn't think so :( it's all too easy to read something online and take that for truth..
      Fun fact.... Sir George MacKenzie NEVER killed a single person with his own hands. George was a paper pusher.. he was Lord Advocate, his days consisted of being in office signing documents when he wasn't working in court.. he wasn't a judge he was further up the chain than that, he ran Scotland when Charles was in England.

    good interview, but I wasn't much impressed about the guy being interviewed, his off the cuff remarks concerning the etchings on the stone's as being "graffiti' as well as his comments on the chicken legs. was disrespectful. how can he give his personal point of view was he there? over a thousand people were persecuted for their beliefs and murdered in horrific ways, including women and children. The fact that the Judge could pass these sentences upon so many people made him a wicked man. McKenzie's the evil spirit at that cemetary.

    • @jamiecorstorphine1271
      @jamiecorstorphine1271 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Clearly your education about Sir George MacKenzie is taken from a website! And the graffiti is absolutely nothing to do with the Covenanters, it's in the main graveyard, not in the prison area.... also no women or children were kept in the prison, nor was anyone "murdered" within the prison area, yes people died (764) within the prison due to conditions (no shelter, food etc) nobody was going around actually killing them though 🤣. The only connection Sir George had to the prison area was he signed the paperwork allowing 1282 MEN to be kept in the south yard of Greyfriars kirkyard.... that's it, he never visited the prisoners and definitely never "killed" any of them! He was Lord Advocate, he wasn't on the battlefield nor did he go round the streets "killing" people.. he spent his days in offices and court.. He ran the country for Charles...
      So please drop the "disrespectful" when you don't actually know what you are talking about! 15 years I have worked here, have you actually visited the Graveyard?
      The graffiti (if you had been paying attention to what I was saying) was done by a child a happy child probably having fun with his friends almost 100 years AFTER the area beyond that wall was used as a prison.....
      Any further questions? Rather than assumptions then please ask away 👍👍

He never visited the prison, he never had anything to do with the men kept in that area, he just signed the paper work! That's it. I suggest you go and research the man yourself via written books rather than websites as your comment about me having no respect has just backfired dramatically on you! As you clearly never listened to anything I said in the video... instead of throwing up words and phrases that suit your own agenda to be offended about! 15 years I have worked in Greyfriars and I am classed as the world's leading expert on this case as we have been documenting it every day for almost 23 years now, my office is at the main gates for the graveyard so please do not try and tell me what is right or wrong in what I say, Because trust me..... you are the one that's wrong after finding false info believing it to be real truths.
