My parents are from the south. My extended family lives in the south. They all have ghost stories to tell. They said they were real. Not told for entertainment purposes. Most re-told their stories without any changes. My mother being one. My paternal grand-father had some good ones. Downright scary. I loved them. My kids got to hear them before he passed.

Because she wanted back in the house after nursing them. Instead she put in too much Oleander. In the cake. One evil led to another. He actually caused the problem by mistreating her the way he did. Which because of all that she suffered getting her ear cut off and getting lynched by a Mob and hung ....all because she listened in on a conversation. That is stupid and crazy. Even for back then. All he had to do was ask her why she was listening and to not do it again or he would sell her away to another owner. I absolutely concur with this. As a nurse of 30 years, i have seen this occur on at least a dozen times. Once, after the lady's death in a hospice bed, 2 hrs after she died whilst awaiting funeral home workers to come pick up her body, " something" activated two separate motion activated doors leading outside. The first opened, then the second and final door that lead outside. Two nursing staff including myself just sat there and the nurse in charge just said, " shes going home for the last time"... freaky.

Gotta tell you, I’ve seen some things. And not just me, but my young son as well.
Many years ago, my husband and I bought a small fixer-upper as our first home; it was a ranch-style house with a crawl space for an attic and an unfinished basement. The only way to get up into the attic was through a small hatch in the kitchen, and to reach it you needed two people and a ladder; and the person going up into the attic had to be built fairly small. I’m telling you this so you will know that it would have been impossible for someone to tamper with things.
At the front of the house was a small window just under the roof peak ~ and somewhere along the line, before my husband and I had bought the house, someone hung a curtain at that window.
Some days as I was backing out of the driveway (or pulling in) I would notice the curtain was closed, and other days the curtain was open.
Now, I never said anything to my husband; it would have freaked him out, and I never mentioned it to anyone else either, but many years later, after we’d moved from the house, my son asked me if I knew the house on Briar Road was haunted. Not wanting to give anything away, I asked him what he meant ~ and he proceeded to tell me about the curtain in the attic window. He said he always felt he was being watched while he waited for the school bus in the mornings. He then gave me a scare when he told me about the little old man who used to visit him in his bedroom at night. He said it was when he was very small, literally still in a crib. He said the little old man would suddenly appear in this one specific corner and would talk to him. I asked if the man had ever threatened him or scared him in any way, and he said no. He did say that he would tell me all about the man when I came into the room, but that I obviously didn’t understand him. I remember, just like other parents would, going in to check on him whenever I would hear him talking and chattering to himself (?) in the evenings after putting him down for the night; never knowing there was someone there.
Many, many years later, I was staying in a house in Ireland. I know it sounds creepy, and it felt weird at the time, but the owner had motion sensor and infrared cameras positioned around the house which I was to turn on in the evening; I could then watch the results on my iPad. It was non-stop fairy land. Apparently, they particularly liked sitting on the arm of the sofa as I was watching television, because I could see them flying all around me on the iPad as I sat there. I would watch them fly in and out of the house through the walls; and every once in a while I would catch a quick glimpse of them out the corner of my eye. They do have the ability to let you see them with your naked eye if they want to, but if you could see them all the time it would be like walking through a swarm of midges, so it’s a good thing we can’t always see them. They aren’t malevolent, and there’s nothing to fear, it’s just that they live in the same space we do, simply on a different plane.
I would leave out a little bowl of liquor and some cake or cookies on the kitchen counter for them at night before going to bed and many was the morning when I came out to find the liquor bowl empty.
We are not alone, but not all spirits are evil.

When I was younger I was a nurse an towards the end of my shift my uncle who was in the ward at that time had a heart attack,I was in the retrieval team ,we got him back to life and moved him to another quiet room because his heart was dying very quickly I went with him to settle him before his family came to sit with him and He grabbed my arm crying and telling me how beautiful it is on the other side and how peacefull and happy it was .i sat to talk to him for a while and he told me it was so beautiful that he was not frightened to die now he knew where he was going he said it was the most beautiful place he had ever seen, after talking to him I learnt that I could reach people who were going to die and tell them the story of my uncle who died and came back to tell me about the next level of life, I could tell that I had helped at least two people before they died and those people had a smile on their face when they died,my girlfriends husband was dying with ca in hospital and he was going threw hell being alive each time his lungs filled with fluid they had to drain it out of him and you could tell he was sick of it ,it worries me that nurses and drs would feed them hope when the patient new there was none, I sat down with him after the last drain and he said he didn’t think he could go on any more and I told him that they couldn’t do anything more for him except to be drained all the time I explained that it was time to go be with his mum and dad and the rest of the family who had passed I told him to relax when his lungs filled again and go to sleep, he squeezed my hands and in a 1/2 hr he was gone and out of pain this was just a few of my experiences on near death hope you can understand that very ill people need a different kind of closure

There HAVE been NEAR DEATH experiences, BUT they were “near” death (brain waves still active). It take literally HOURS to truly die once the heart stops, the brain slowly fades it’s the last to go on account of survival and self preservation - the body shuts completely down and tries to preserve SOMETHING anything and that’s the brain.
There has NEVER been anyone to come back after true brain death sorry. There is no “NDEs” accounted for AFTER brain death.
When we are gone that’s it. Once that final flicker of the flame goes out so do you. There is no consciousness after that, as hard as it IS to perceive an end.. there is one. One day this universe will die and disappear as do you.
The argument is - once the universe disappears, then what what does it disappear into there has to be infinite space for the universe to die in. There is but it’s a dead space. Once you truly die you won’t even know it. There will be nothing , you will not be there afterwards to be sad that you don’t continue so it really doesn’t matter.
But I DO know that we don’t know barely a fraction of a percent what is on the other side or how the universe works so really who knows what happens

As retired nursing staff supervisor I can tell you that most of the supernatural or hauntings or whatever you like to call it are squelched by the administration because they're afraid their patients won't come there. I assure you it happens more than occasionally it happens frequently. The situations that I am talking about usually happen with two or more people in attendance and witnessing them. And when word reaches the administrators your calls to the office to give an explanation of what you saw and what happened and then they threatened that if you talk about it you will lose your job, and you will never be able to work any place again.

Clearly, people are acting out of fear and worried about money and having money keep coming in and speaking of things that are not the "Norm" cause trouble with companies wanting their money money money. Simple. BUT: It's a fun show...(I wrote this for another spirit site, by the way) but I still have a question someone may want to answer...maybe(?): If your dead, where does the voice come from without a body or vocal cords? If you are dead, where are the brains for talking coming from? If from spirit, then why can't someone use a spirit box with people in comas who are in their body yet can't talk but have the spirit energy to want to say something? What about the people who had horrible brain injuries and can't speak, what about that? The spirit is in the body, right? They are alive but not talking, so why don't they speak through such devices, if it's really possible? Has anyone tried to do this? Or are people just speaking through these things through their dream states when asleep from around the world when one part of the world is dark when another part of the world is daytime? Think about it????? People who have one impediment or the other and can't communicate: can they through their "Spirit" with paranormal devices like we see on TV? They have spirits, don't they? Why can't they speak through the paranormal devices? What do you all think??????? Are they all "Spirits" or people asleep interacting with the awake which look like shadow people, ladies in white, etc., and on and on...? I'm not knocking any possibilities, I'm just asking anyone to consider, ask, wonder and talk about what I mentioned. I'd like to see if they can use the devices near someone in a coma at some hospital and see what happens. No, I don't know anyone brain-dead or any such people or anyone in any coma state. I just am wondering about this whole stuff. If the body is alive, then what is the SOUL up to...IF ANYTHING????? You tell me. (And bless all those hurt and injured!)

But many advances have been made in the last 50 years of paranormal investigation. Governments know more than they let on. Therefore, we the people have to investigate, document and try to explain what is happening on OUR OWN. And we do, and we do it well. Many thousands of books have been published on ghosts and the paranormal. It's such a fascinating and mysterious subject that when a person is visited, it can be such a mind-expanding and mind-altering experience that many will chose to write about it and start investigating the field to help explain and validate what happened to them. People can become obsessed with it too. Happens all the time. Like a drug. Becomes addictive. Once you see or hear or feel something yourself, you are changed forever and many will take it as a sign and start down that path

And because we have hundreds of plantations. In SC, there is Charleston, which is one of the oldest cities in America and where the Civil War started. Even our state museum is supposedly haunted.

When I was a child, around 10 I lived in a tiny village in Poland, in the area that used to be Pomerania before WWII. My parents and I only lived there for 2 years. I experienced some very strange phenomena there.....later, as an adult I found out that terrible atrocities took place there during the WWII, on the property we lived on a whole family was butchered and left in the barn.....things like this happened throughout the village and area....I am still not a believer in ghosts, but I don't know what to think, the things were extremely strange and not explainable, but if you talk to people about it they often think you are strange....so, I have all the incidents written in detail, but really don't talk about them, just think about them often, they are an enigma I will probably never get answers to. Lately I have been studying Quantum Physics, and sometimes I feel like I might be grasping at straws, but there is something there perhaps, not sure, but there is something strange about our reality that we don't fathom, perhaps limitations to our brain, wish I could know what I experienced all those years ago.

I have worked in a number of hospitals as a critical care nurse and,as a student, took a tour of an abandoned hospital building. Walking through an empty ICU where I worked gave me a weird skin crawly feeling as did the empty hospital building. My last employment had no such feeling in the procedure rooms or recovery unit. But really any public place can give you the "willies". Theatres, transit stations, Churches etc. can make you want to hurry away.

Through the years I’ve had several things: a barn gate on a spring that has to be pulled on to open and it opened several times on its own w no wind. Also I came home from school as a teenager and the bedroom closest to the death area (my room) had water on walls in the shower and also dripping faucet like it just turned off and fog on the bathroom mirror. Parents were at work. Sister was already married and out of house. All doors and windows were locked too. I was so scared I ran out and left til mom got home! After my own father passed in our home last year our/his dog will often be looking at nothing wagging his tail like dad or somebody is standing right in front of us with a treat.

It took me too long to understand what was happening was paranormal. I made a few videos about it on my channel if youre interested.

My only experience with the “paranormal” was during my mid-teen years when I worked at our city library. We had an Indian(Native American) museum in the basement. Whenever I had to go down there, alone, I always felt like I was being watched, and there was one place that was always cold.

I could only roll my eyes when that doctor said the small flashes of light darting across the screen had to be an entity; couldn't possibly be anything else. Has he never heard of insects before? California has lots of them. Could light be refracting weird or reflecting off something not in frame weirdly? Not saying it is, but Mr. Smartypants Doctor Person isn't doing even a halfassed job of it if he doesn't take the time to eliminate the possibility that the small flashes of light could be caused by entirely natural, explainable causes.

    • @mslijkhuis

Yeah, while working on tv shows and movies in post-production I had to paint out quite a few bugs identical to those "balls of light". I've also added CG animations of buzzing flies to several movies and shows (scenes with rotting things, etc.). All it takes to make it look exactly like that is to add flapping wings and motion blur.

At my first night working as a cleaner, I had to work alone in this large, two story athletic club. I was cleaning the enormous mirrors in a pretty fancy ladies locker room. I saw a HUGE, fast moving black mass move quickly behind me heading towards the lockers at the back of the restroom. I laughed, thinking that it was some sort of "initiation" for the new girl. I went to the locker area, expecting to see someone there (maybe holding a black cape or something black). The area was a dead end, just a row of lockers, nobody was there, & there were no doors... The next night, I met my co-worker. The 1st thing he said was "did you see anything weird"? I told him what happened. He said the building was built on the land where an old Hawaiian compound once stood, where young Prince Kuhio lived as a child. He said another worker saw Prince Kuhio sitting in a tree through the window one night. The prince was wearing his white 1800's style military "uniform" with medals/epilets, etc. on it.... Another night I worked there, my mop stood upright and moved a little in the mop bucket. I told myself that I didn't just see that. I did not work there very long.

Colin Dickey, in his book Ghostland, debunks the Winchester House ghost stories. The whole book is about how and why culture, society, and commerce create stories of the supernatural, many of which are rooted in real history that is much more frightening than the ghost story. My personal experience with the supernatural is a high railroad bridge near Louisville where a goat demon pushes teenagers off to their deaths. The two old timers I was talking with said that it would help if the teenagers didn't go up there drunk in the first place.

I have tried many things over the years to have an encounter of any kind that would change my mind, but nothing ever happened... I'm still waiting for definitive proof about any of these to prove me wrong...
It's nice to see that I'm not the only sceptic who is interested by these phenomena and to read a comment that actually makes sense.

My family went through extreme poltergeist activity back in the 70's
when we were living at 1723 Downing Street in Greensboro North Carolina.
Our family was close and affectionate and was made up of my husband, myself, our
son and daughter and our beloved family dog.
The house in question was built in 1965 and we
were the first family there but indeed, it was built over what had been a
lake and there were underground springs and creeks all around us with
moving water. I mention that as It is my understanding that this is commonly reported in
many poltergeist cases. As for the history of the land is all I know is our neighborhood was
once built on a cow pasture. Who was there before then I do not know.
When my husband and I first moved in my kids were like 5 and 1
years old and I did have a few odd experiences like smelling perfume in
the house that was odd smelling that nobody wore. There were also
feelings of having something rapidly coming up behind one and feeling
not so much as evil but high weirdness of something very old and
completely non-human. The feeling of feeling one was being watched was a
common experience. Not far away behind our house was a graveyard but we
dismissed the idea of ghosts as neither my husband or I thought the dead could haunt a location.
Not much more happened for several years
till my daughter and son grew up. Before the real explosion of
poltergeist activity the woods behind our house and leading to the
graveyard was a place my son and many of the kids enjoyed playing at. At
the time, it was not seen odd as none of us thought in anyway that a
graveyard could be a concern. It was curious that the thick creeks in the woods
was known by the older kids as 'haunted pools' - why the name and when it came it
was unknown. When my daughter was about 16 and my son
was about 12 we had a the first big amounts l of poltergeist activity in
our home for several months. It started first with my daughter who had a
conversation one night before going to bed and talking to her Dad
about the Devil and how stupid he was thinking he could overthrow God in
heaven. That night at about 1 am she had objects fly off her walls and a huge
gust of wind blowing through the room despite no open windows. She
was scared but not so scared to have a seance with her friends during her 16th birthday.
After that she would find at times at night having
weird experiences like waking to find her hand being held by a small
withered hand or hearing a loud bangs on the wall. The seance was
something she and her friends did on their own as a joke - it was not
something that was routine or approved of in our home but soon after
this the weirdness was manifest. Strong gust of wind would sometimes
come from nowhere and blow through the house.
Though experiences could happen anytime of day, I would say 90% of the
time the activity happened at night from between Midnight and 3am. If I
were to venture a guess, the entry point or portal was located in a
closet space shared by my son's and sisters room as the doors of the
closet would sometimes open on their own during manifestations in our
home. It got to the point that my son would tie a belt around his closet
door handles before going to bed at night because it often opened at night before
weird activity began - of course this didn't stop
the trouble but it made him feel better that the closet door remained
    closed at night.
The sound of heavy objects falling and breaking glass occurred in other
rooms but when observed nothing was to be seen. However, the focus
shifted from her very quickly to completely focus on my 12 year old son.
It is hard to describe all the evens from slamming doors, sheets being
yanked off beds, shaking beds , flickering lights and all of us being
awakened at night by having a hand shake one awake or messing with ones
feet or bed coverings. Even stranger was the experience my son had was
after being awakened by a shaking bed he sat up and flicked on the light
and then felt something invisible, big and heavy bound into the bed next
to him that knocked him over and then was just as quickly gone. That incident was the one my son
reported as most freaking him out was that experience. He described it like being on the bed and imagining if a huge obese invisible man
were to jump into bed with you and then vanish - all happening in about 3 seconds.
We were not alone in all of this -The family dog was pretty freaked out when
this would happen and he would bark and growl at unseen presences but
usually acted very afraid and was eager to be outside the house than
inside it. Most of the poltergeist activities it seemed to happen during
my sons REM sleep when his bed would shake so we think his unconscious
was letting lose. Of course, many, perhaps half of the activity was not
the 1am to 3am variety but would happen in the middle of the day as
well. When the bed shaking occurred my husband and I would get up and go
into his bedroom and see him asleep with the bed go back and forth. At
first my husband and I took it to be completely demonic opened up by the
silly teenage seance my daughter had engaged in but the psychological
aspects could not be missed as well. My son was hyperactive and on
Ritalin. The Ritalin helped him focus like a stimulate but it had a side
effect of stunted growth to the degree he was behind normal physical
growth and development by a full year. We thought perhaps the Ritalin
might had been affecting his CNS but it appeared it was the bed moving
him - not the other way around. In short, there was probably something
in that house from the time we moved in but our son was clearly the
battery that caused things to go crazy when he became of age.
We had a Catholic priest come bless the home, this did work
but it only knocked off the activity for about 10 days before it started
up again. The priest was very enlightened and told us that though demons do
sometimes wreck homes what we had was likely a poltergeist which is basically a demon 3rd class
on assignment for a short trial period and could steal energy from anything from a fight in a home
or pent up libido. He advised us all to relax more, laugh more and pray more
and make the 'the house light'. He told us poltergeist are affected by blessing but unless
they are done weekly they will keep coming back so the best solutions lay with our family
as he didn't have time to come by each week to bless the home. He asked about
things that might have invited evil in and my son ended up getting rid of a big collection
of horror comics which went into the trash.
One funny bit of symbolism that I did not catch to many
months later was the poltergeist at the first part of it's manifestation
did so while we were eating dinner. We were all around the table and
talking and laughing and my son had a tall glass of milk in front of him
in a tall glass and it suddenly exploded. Nobody was hurt by the glass
but the milk went straight up in a crazy manner all over the ceiling
till it rained down on all of us. The symbolism of this pent up energy
is kind of clear. It might be the case that the Ritalin that had stunted his growth
might have built up huge levels of energy as my son told me years later he
didn't get his first wet dream till he was 14 which bothered him as all his friends had gotten them
by 13 years old . My husband had told him not to worry about it
and nature had it's own time for him. Of course there is a problem with that theory as well as the poltergeist activity largely
ended a full year or more before that so that one explanation is not complete.
It is fascinating that strong emotions and libido can
provide such huge stores of energy for poltergeist to pull from and one
one learns to unplug them from their source they cannot manifest without
a power source to tap. The key to killing the poltergeist was creating a
happy relaxed home. After about 6 months it was pretty much over with.
It was the most amazing and terrifying 6 months of our lives and a eye -
opening awakening to the world of the paranormal. After all the years
of thinking of this I can only conclude we had every thing and multiple
causes to create a perfect poltergeist environment. Though it was not
fun to go through, it was very interesting and to a degree, deepened all
of our faith as we did conclude we were not dealing with PK but with
intelligent beings with a twisted sense of humor. This became clear when
the poltergeist in our home seemed to take a great deal of dislike for a
blessed crucifix we kept in the hall and a picture of Jesus. These were
often turned upside down or found laying on the floor knocked off which
suggest this being had a strong dislike for these items. I am open to various ideas
to explain what happened here. Would love to hear from anyone who have had an experience
    with a poltergeist

So many. Could fill a few books. Writing on them now. Some in broad daylight. Most outside. I can assure you, to those of us who are empaths, all the stuff you see on TV is humorous and kind of pale in comparison (no pun intended) to what we experience on our own, by ourselves, with no equipment or intent to document anything. . We don't need any fancy equipment. It just happens to us when we least expect it. We don't have to call it or welcome it, or expect it. But we are OPEN to it at all times. Therefore, they (spirits) know that. They sense that and RESPOND to that. Especially when they realize we can see and hear them.

Joyce you can message me anytime you wish. There is alot to tell you about. Too much to discuss here. But I will say this....some things are already there and you just happen to walk into them unknowingly. Some things can attach themselves to you. Some things can be CREATED by you (subconsciously). These are called 'tulpa'. And some things can be PROJECTED by you. Research the term Tulpa! Every situation, every person, and every entity is different. Some are good (most), some are negative, some are evil, and some are stuck and some don't even know they are dead. All types of entities roaming out there. Some are just residual energy. "Tape-loop ghosts". Some are intelligent and can interact. Some are mischievous. Some just want help and are confused. It's up to us to try and ascertain what the situation is. Most people won't bother. They'll either shut it out and leave, or freeze up and get really scared and run...or they may do what I did and listen and learn and start to do research until they get really good at it and then it can become a hobby or even an addiction. Haha. True story. For me, it has become almost an addiction. Curiousity mostly. But that's mainly because so many things have happened to me that there is ZERO DOUBT in my mind that they are real. Only questions are WHO are they and WHY are they there..When it happen in front of others while you see or hear or witness it, THEN it becomes obvious that you have PROOF it's not just your own imagination or mind that is creating them. Those are the BEST experiences. Because the VALIDATE all you have seen and heard and documented (photos etc) up to that point. Some of us (empaths) are like magnets for them. Not sure why. I feel it's a gift, and you can either accept it and develop it, or you can reject and ignore it. One you start ignoring and rejecting it, it will most likely stop. I see it as a gift from God. If you reject the gift, God will take it away from you. If you embrace it and welcome it, you'll have many experiences. And with each one, they get stronger and more blatant and vivid and obvious. If you are a naturally curious and open-minded person they'll sense that and try to reach out to you. They DO sense your intent. That much I know for certain. You must be grounded on God and the blood of Jesus to handle it all. That way it won't shake you or frighten you too much. I don't seek out the evil or negative stuff. But sometimes you stumble across that unknowingly. But that's okay too. As long as you are grounded, humble, and are not seeking it out intentionally or for cheap thrills or profit, or to simply tempt, tease or anger those negative spirits or demons or whatever they may be. You need to have a healthy RESPECT for all of these things. It's okay to be afraid, just not to show it and let it get the best of you. You have to learn to face it head on and control your fear and to be humble and respectful and know at ALL TIMES that whatever or whoever it is that you are grounded in God's light and therefore they cannot or will not hurt you. On e they sense that (praying silently on the spot helps) they will back off. I've been attacked once and it DOES WORK. Later I was informed what it was and the long history of that area. I had NO IDEA what I was walking into. Caught me totally off guard. But my intent was there to see or experience something going in. So it sensed that and gave it to me in spades! Lol. I documented most of it. Some of the BEST stuff I have ever experienced! Wild and crazy and VERY SCARY at first to me. But as soon as I started to pray, BOOM....it all stopped suddenly and NOTHING! SILENCE! I took a bunch of pictures and got out of there quickly but NOT showing fear or by running. NEVER DO THAT! EVER! It only angers the bad spirits and hurts the good ones. Most disturbances or common poltergeists or 'haunting' are non-violent and non threatening. But people usually get freaked out and really scared by them and they ASSUME that they are evil or negative. That's the Hollyweird effect. But it's not always true. In fact it's usually not true. It's just a misinterpretation from a scared and shocked person. Ignorance is the root cause. Arm yourself with knowledge and prayers. Do your homework. You'll be surprised when you do. Most importantly, talk to others about it and that will help you mentally deal with it all. DO NOT SUPRESS IT! Big no-no.

@@gerrys4822 Thanks for all of this. Ironically I have been experiencing these beings again over the past few weeks. I think when I started writing about it they didn't like it. Most commonly there seems to be three of them in my room that do things between midnight to 3am. Sometimes it is like a small animal crawling in a bed or the sound of growls around the bed or a sort of gibbering chatter like a monkey. I can order them out by the name of Jesus but it only drives them out till the next night. There purpose if I were to guess is to deprive one from sleep. I am getting a much better feel what my son went through almost 5 decades ago. Tried everything from Michael the Archangel prayer to white sage, salt in corners of room , wearing a blessed rosary and Holy Water and invoking the protection of Jesus and they keep coming every night. It is a rough go but I am holding up.

I haven't seen a ghost before but I have felt their presence it's so creepy. One instance in particular I was in an attic it was finished with a bedroom. I was with my boyfriend at the time and we were just laying in bed in the middle of the afternoon when we both felt this evil presence come over us. The feeling was like nothing I've ever felt before. He felt the same.
