    I have a Heliod deck with no combos, its a ton of fun and often represents the strongest board. The fact that Heliod is very hard to remove for most non-white decks (and white decks often struggle to interact with him as well) really makes the deck's game plan robust. I think he should be higher on this list

    I personally love Lathiel as a Lifelink deck. When you hit with something that has lifelink, you can double that creatures power for the next turn, then double again. You keep that going and eventually you'll have a 32/32 healers hawk that cost you 1 mana. Its not the strongest in the world but its super fun to slowly build up a nasty board state. It also triggers at "each" end step so if you block with a lifelink creature, your stuff gets stronger. It really makes people think about hitting you.

    I ran a Shanna deck for a while and was asked to retire it by my regular pod. I leaned into utilizing all the fast mana in bant, card draw triggers and obviously tons of lifegain boosts and I was often sitting on 20+ cards in my hand, 80+ life and enough mana to do whatever I want by turn 5. It was intended to be a 'strong casual' deck, but it was just too much for a strictly casual table. That was also a while ago, honestly I should rebuild it now with all the new stuff and reprints it's probably even more filthy.

    The reason why willowdusk is only activated at sorcery speed is because you couldn't attack her if it was at instant speed. She just wouldn't block, take the damage, pay 1 and get 10 free counters. A good willowdusk deck will have ways to gain life back using those counters anyway as well as untap willowdusk and rinse and repeat

    One of my favorite decks that I made myself was a Licia: Sanguine Tribune weaponized life-gain deck. Lots of ways to gain life then use that extra life as a resource to take out my opponents. But ya, I got to agree, she's not that powerful on her own, I just love her. I would have said in your list a C, but ya, C/D is about right for her on her own.

    I absolutely *love* The Archimandrite. I built mine with a Lifelink theme, which means *every* time my monks attack, the next one gets stronger, even without factoring in the passive life gain effects I've got on my board. It doesn't really matter what your board looks like when I send a 200 power flample dude at you.

    Great video. As someone with a high power casual Beledros deck, I agreed with the initial S rating, though I see why you landed on A. I built it with 15+ ramp spells, some mana/token doublers, and random x spells (with plenty of token win conditions thrown in). I also enjoy all my decks having a way out (way to knock myself out of the game) so beledros is great for that too

    Happy to see my boy Beledros up there in A, and potentially an S! He's my pet commander atm, building the deck around the pest tokens and token generation in general. It's so fun, I only need like 3-4 cards on board to start draining people, and the moment Beledros comes out, the other players are usually too busy sizing each other up for them to worry about my dragon boy.

  • @jaredwonnacott9732

    You forgot the most important reason the Bilbo is probably S tier. He's Abzan. Of all the other life gain commanders you mentioned, 5 were Selesnya, 4 were Orzhov, 3 were Golgari, and 3 were mono-black. Then we had just one each of White, Bant, Azorius, Boros, Jeskai, Esper, and Mardu. That means that if you wanted to have as many of the powerful cards as possible in the 99, from all the decks for all these commanders, you could fit any card from 16 of the others, and about half or more from the rest, into an Abzan deck. Biblo is the best, just because he gives you access to all the colors that the best life gain decks want. Before Biblo was printed, I used Daghatar the Adamant as my life gain commander. I basically never cast him, but he gave me the colors I needed. Now, I actually use Myrkul, Lord of Bones, because turning my creatures into enchantments works great in this strategy, but, if my wife ever trades me her Biblo, I may just run him instead. Either way, Abzan is by far the best color combination for lifegain sttrategies, and Bilbo needs to go up a tier or two.

  • @eliluttrell7637
    @eliluttrell7637 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is no possible scenario where Oloro is B tier. S tier easily. Not only is it guaranteed lifegain, letting you easily abuse life without repercussions, but you can run Will in the 99 for a guaranteed 2 extra mana a turn. Then you add black with things like Necropotence, Sanguine Bond, and other life based effects that can win you the game. Watch someone's face as you use Wall of Blood to drain yourself for a ton of life, then drop Oketra's Mercy with Sanguine Bond on the field.
    Then activate the Strionic Resonator.
    2 opponents in 1 turn from weird jank that nobody else uses.
    Someone responds and you just negate or counterspell their response because you still have blue.
    Also, for the horrible people out there, you can run Sen Triplets in the 99 of Oloro as an Alternative Commander.
    Oloro=S Tier.

    No nonononono
    I got skeptical early on when both Trelasarra and Elas were put below Dina. Sure, Dina is nice, but both of the others have better secondary benefits. Dina's life drain ability isn't balanced toward you since she only drains one life no matter how much you gain for each gain instance; being a sac outlet is nice, but it's not a free sac and giving herself a *temporary* power buff (and without a toughness buff) isn't that great. Elas' life gain/drain synergizes with building a good board state, and having deathtough as a defense mechanism is nice. And Trelasarra is the best of the two-cost uncommon bunch as a good lifegain deck will make her absolutely huge in very short order with the added benefit of all that scrying.
    I had to stop the vid to write this comment when you put Heloid in D tier. Even without the combo stuff, I would wager he's better than any of the other three aforementioned girls. He's one of the few cheap commanders that both benefits from lifegain and can create it himself - plus, with that indestructible, he's way harder to remove than other commanders and can be a huge defensive wall. The only argument against him is he's mono-color, meaning using him as a commander (vs in the 99) is a bit more restrictive - but there's so much lifegain stuff (and control) in white that it's really not that big of a problem at all.
    I enjoy Will, really respect Vito, (he's one of the few black decks I run,) and absolutely love Lathiel, so going to go keep watching now.

      I really wouldn't call that a life gain deck... it's usually a combo deck, secondarily warrior tribal. No one builds her for the lifelink.

    • @toedrag-release
      @toedrag-release 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidrosenberg9615 It's not primarily a life gain deck no but it's always built around her second ability which gives an additional combat as well as gives warriors lifegain. Even if she doesn't go infinite players will always use her second ability when they have the mana for it causing them to gain massive amounts of life even if it's not the primary goal. And most well built najeela decks exploit the life gained to some sort of extent
