Best reviews on YT. Love how you show the discs up close so we can see the discs completely and how they compare to each other. Also love the side by side flight comparisons! Exceptional. And I completely agree with your analysis on this one. Prodigy is doing their own thing and it's paying off. I bag both A2 and Zone, but no pig, no razor claw, or toro. Prodigy proving innovation and originality are worth the risk/investment. Thanks Apollo DG.
I've been bagging the A2 since last spring and love it. It's more reliably overstable than zone/clones and it feels more comfortable to me. I did like the stability of the Razor Claw, but didn't like how deep it is. And all the Zone discs just turn into a shorter Teebirds when you power up and that's what stable putters like the Envy are for. I also like the A3, especially for touchy approaches. That disc really likes to just go in the basket.
I had almost the exact opposite reaction to the razor claw vs zone. The depth started out as a negative for me, but in the end I got a lot more comfortable with deeper putters in general (the alpaca is my favorite thrower) and thus ended up going back to the razor claw. After seeing eagle’s in the bag with him bagging a RC1 and RC3, I tried the same and LOVED the versatility of those two discs together. It’s funny how feel can be so different for the individual! Lots of folks look for disc recommendations without considering depth - just speed and stability.
I'm old and have low arm speed. My favorite over stable Mid/Approach discs are Disc Mania's Maestro and Innova Lion. My arm's too slow for the Zone and Pig. Thanks. Great Channel!
I like to bag a zone (I actually have my circuit challenge Tempo in my bag atm which is nearly identical) but I don’t feel like it’s overstable enough to cover all the overstable approach shots I want to throw. I’ve been using a Jarn for when I need just a little extra bite, which is actually pretty often because if I need to disc to go left the zone doesn’t tend to do that consistently enough for me. I’m a big fan of the concept of “zone but faster” and the Pyro actually fills that slot quite well for me.
I have only thrown an A2 a few times before passing it on to a friend. A disc that I regularly bag which is very similar but more workable imo is the Järn from Kastaplast. Especially in soft K-1 plastic it has a nice straight flight before a reliable fade. I know people call it an "approach" disc however I use it more in the os mid slot. It's like a faster zone with a more straight flight before the fade. K1 plastic ones are usually more beef than K-1 soft out of the box. K3 (baseline) is even more beefy when fresh. I have only tried Z zones so that may be why. While bagging a Järn I also bag a harp. A more os puttery like disc. Imo zone is somewhere in between those two :) Have a nice day :)
after I lost my zone, I started using a Legacy Ghost. it is based on an old Roc mold. goes a little bit farther than the zone with the same reliable flight. Does really well in heavy winds. Didn't know the Roc was uncool now. not sure what that makes the Ghost!
I bag a razor claw 3 for the same reasons you talk about the A2 except it is deeper than the zone as opposed to shallower. Like the A2 it immediately starts dumping on a full power backhand.
Love the content man. I recently got an axiom tempo in my gyro box. Ive been really enjoying it. Theres something about that mvp plastic. Reminds me of an esp zone. Id love to see you throw that around a bit. Happy new year man. 👊
Gator was PDGA approved in 2000, 8 years before the Zone, and does everything as well as or better than other “approach discs.” The true OG overstable approach disc.
I really think Innova missed out on rebranding some of their small-diameter midranges as approach discs, like the Skeeter, Panther, Spider, Cro, Gator/Gator3, Caiman and Croc. But people tend to gravitate towards the full-size mids and these get overlooked. At least that's the way it looks to me.
I don't know... I feel like a lot of the pros had the Gator in the bag because that was just the best thing that Innova had in their lineup for that slot... and since a bunch of other stuff has come out, the Gator has kind of fallen back and faded out of relevancy with all the other approach discs coming out. Even Innova gave in and made a true Zone competitor in the Toro. I think the only reason the Gator was somewhat popular was because Paul used it, and he used it because that was the only good option for a slot like that in their lineup. Then when going to Discraft he said the Zone filled a slot he never had with Innova and something he always wanted in the bag.
@@ApolloDiscGolf I feel like most of the other runs I have thrown aren’t as over stable as those ones most zones for me on a forehand have a slight flip up to them
I go with the thought space temple for that over stable approach. I say it’s in between a zone and a A2. For me it has more dump than a zone but not as much as a A2 plus in the nerve plastic it doesn’t skip like a A2
Idk anyone else, but my Overstable Approach disc is Discmanias Sockibomb Raptor Eye. There’s been a lot of rotations in my bag since I’ve started playing 6 months ago, maybe 2 or 3 disc have stayed and one of them is my raptor eye

Recently picked up at A5 in 300 spectrum plastic, It flies like a slightly beat in zone out of the box and has great hand feel. I normally throw a TI Zone, might pick up a A2 just for fun. Nice Video.
The Pig is more a putter than any of the others like the Zone or the A2, but for some crazy reason, Innova thought putting it as a mid range would help their marketing or something 😂
Heard the A3 can make some whistling noise so went with it instead, a beaded shallow disc, it likes my forehand and feels dependable. So now I got a Pig, Loki and A3 that will be fighting for almost the same slot. Putting my Pig at 3.5 speed. ^_^
It’s interesting as you gave love to the Culprit from Dynamic Discs in this slot last year. I’ve thrown Culprits, Harps, and Pigs but this slot for me belongs to the Järn.
I started with harps, moved on to zones. Imo the harp has a deeper feel, a slower flight, and is less torque resistant than the zone. Not by much in any of the categories, but enough to make a difference. I havent thrown the A2 alot, but in the context of this video I feel the harp is to the zone what the zone is to the A2 if that makes sense.
i believe the game has evolved and transitioned from throwing mids a certain distance to throwing faster putters the same distance. mids are now faster and replace certain fairways. but even that can be based on how your game is and what you’re comfortable with.
Yeah the Grace is VERY good! I think Kristin Tattar has a lot to do with the Grace overtaking the Wraith. Innova has never really had a huge pro champion the Wraith like Kristin has the Grace, since Innova has the Destroyer.

The A2 went the direction of being more aerodynamic than the Zone, whereas the Pig is significantly less aerodynamic than the Zone. The allure of the Pig (and the reason it was 3 speed for so long) is that it doesn't fly as fast or far as other approach discs, and it's naturally very torque resistant because of the thick rim. Slower, less glidey. Whereas the A2 is faster and more glidey. The Pig is more like a Berg+Zone whereas the A2 is more like a Buzzz SS+Zone.
