We raid the junk pile in the forest for discarded, but useful materials including metals like bar wire, fence wire, discarded metal tools and whatever else we can use to spear, or catch fish in this epic survival fishing challenge.
In a survival situation, it might surprise you to still be able to find many hand tools and discarded modern artifacts that are useful in building spears and fishing hooks. The key to survival is to use whatever you find available. Junk is often left over and lasts for years before it is reduced back to it's natural form. Metals can be worked and sharpened to make useful survival tools from fish hooks, to fish spears.

If you can make a slip tip for your spear that might be pretty effective. Detachable tip attached to a strong strand of rope or wire. Tip penetrates the fish, tip goes through, tip detaches on the other side of fish, toggles and traps fish on the spear. Retrieve, cook, eat!
I wonder how could you make a primitive/bushcraft style lathe in the forest? Waterwheel, spindle, wooden gears, pulleys, belts/vines/bark, ...? With a lathe, you could do a lot of tool making. It would be a "Gilligan's Island" style lathe with a bamboo bike to generate the power! hahaha Is there bamboo up there or just birch, maples, and pines? Must be nice to have Subscriber Scott (in my head, I refer to him as Survivor Scott) to do some of the camera work. Great video. Lots of fun to watch. Full stop.

With that inner tube, could you have made a Sling Bow fishing rig? Watching even more I was thinking that if you had continued to bend the rake (one prong) further, rather than straighten it, it could have been a great hooking device for when the Carp was near. Sort of how they hook large Tuna and Marlin. Thanks for the ideas. Great vids man.

Awesome catch, next time instead of a spear for the fishing make a gaff. You can use the fish weight once hooked to keep on the hook.

If the spine of your knife has a sharp 90 degree edge, use the spine to scrape off the bark and save your cutting edge. Of course, all knives should have a sharp 90 degree edge on the spine (striking a fire steel etc.).
It amazing how when you're in survival mode you can find all those primitive tools, I'm surprised you didn't find a primitive chainsaw or a primitive nail gun.

I had a survival book that said it was possible to catch trout by slowly and carefully feeling along the edge of the bank with your hands, especially under overhangs and stuff. Apparently you have an instant after you touch a trout where you can flick it up out of the water. Is this something you've ever heard of or tried?

IMPORTANT POISONING WARNING. That tub you built the fire in is galvanized (coated with zinc). Zinc is poisonous when breathed in. Welders know this. This is also why you should not build smokers out of old refrigerators. Google zinc poisoning, galvanized poisoning.

When I was 13 I went to a place called “goose creek “, in Va ,there was a coffer dam and at the bottom we fished for carp,well my zebco broke so I took some of the string and made a pole from a willow and used a piece of bark for a bobber and corn on the hook ,caught the biggest freshwater fish I ever caught,to this day and I’m 56,16 lb carp...bfelt like Daniel f@#$&in Boone !
Should have just made a gaff hook with some of that heavier fence wire or that rake deal he found. Would have served you a lot better than the spear

Sweet finds & nice survival techniques awesome spear should of heat bend the fork to bend easier but I think the more spears at the tip would have a better chance at getting one.

For your bow if you wet the wood first then bend shouldnt break. Then dry out after you have your bend in it
why no cook and eat scenes with the carp? also make sure you bleed em before you cook em to get rid of that muddy flavour, and season well with plenty of woodobo! (the bleeding part I'm guessing is if they're anything like the carp in australia)
