This is the new pandemic. Even when I’m out walking the dog, I’m frequently having to dodge pedestrian phone users who seem completely oblivious to their surroundings. Unfortunate that this quintet dodged a bullet 🙁
I call them "pavement zombies."
It's funny watching them bump into things.
But unlike driving, it is at least legal to walk while using a phone
@@ditch3827 Absolutely. Nonetheless, it really highlights the distraction levels it can cause.
@@TenFalconsMusic Unless it’s me they bump into 😂
@@humblequest7905 Indeed but the level of danger distracted pedestrians pose to the public is miniscule compared to the 29,795 people killed or seriously injured on our roads last year by drivers.
Made taxi driver look like a melon with a few short words
The van driver I caught on dashcam using their phone at 60mph on the M25 has been reported and the police have said they will be taking action. Whilst not every submission will be prosecuted, there's still more than a fair chance a driver will get caught. It's perplexing, given the fairly reasonable chance of getting caught and prosecuted, why there's still so many drivers using their phones at the wheel.
The taxi driver carried on despite being told he should no be using the phone.
When out walking or on public transport the amount of people addicted to the phone is huge and to think that the amount of drivers that could could be breaking the law is scary.
The law needs to be updated.
Very disappointing for Mikey. Your subscribers appreciate all your hard work even if the police can’t be bothered to follow up.
Got roadworks by us now and regularly seeing people on their phone while I'm walking the dog. Do shout at them if they have their window open but most carry on regardless.
Just record and report. Only thing that they respond to.
We've only had one government for these past 13 years, Tories!
It's that lot who've cut public spending with the loss of 20,000 police officers!
Luckily you are not tied to the outcome and don't take it personally. I applaud your efforts. Thank you.
This country has gone to the dogs !
Gotta catch 'em all!
Shame they got away with it, but if they saw him and thought he was going to report them then at least they had a month of worrying which may be enough to make them think about using their phone again.
I regulary come across drivers using dashboard mounted mobile while belting along at 70+ mph. You can always tell when they are dialling a new number due to the swerving from side to side that suddenly takes place.
Disgraceful that the police had the evidence but didn't act. I wonder if being understaffed was the real reason.
If the police/CPS don't enforce the law, they risk people who are incensed by this behaviour taking the law into their own hands.
I got spat at by a driver for recording evidence of them driving on their phone this morning.
@@GilesWendesisn't spitting at someone an offence? It certainly is if you're a copper!
They’ll get off scot free, but the courts will quickly come down on you.
Yes. And I will.
Alright batman calm down, you're going to wrestle phone users in their car are you? 🤣
The police don’t seem to bothered about it.
It's because they do it themselves.
@@guyfawkes055more than likely. Like the judges giving minimal sentences to certain crimes. Makes you wonder.
@@Sylvia-StormWe are just not strict enough in this country. We should take a leaf out of Australia's book.
Wait what? Is it Christmas already? 6 cars in one go?! This is unreal!! :D
Just like HMRC: 33% worforce cut between 2005-2012; and another 24% CS staff cut between 2018-2023. Wouldn't want those pesky inspectors having sufficient time to delve too deeply into tax affairs now, would we?
They mainly just chased small people: cabbie and lorry drivers, small consultants etc. while the big tax fraudsters i.e. banks, corporations etc. can sleep peacefully ;). How do you know those people were actually doing any productive work to begin with? Public sector jobs are riddled with useless drones on massive benefits compared to the private sector.
There isn’t a short time limit for issuing paperwork (not a NIP as none is required for a mobile offence), they have up to 4.5months to issue the requirement to name the driver!
Quite correct. Phone driving is not included in the list of offences covered by the 14 day rule - see Schedule 1 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988
Mikey, I recommend you use a media mod for your GoPro, the sound when is windy outside the souind quality is a bit lacking at the moment. The sound quality will improve and will be able to hear what you are saying. Thanks a lot for your videos, you are awesome!
Thanks, you’re right. I didn’t have a lot of joy with the media mod. The sounds was hardly better and it made it hard to change batteries quickly. Recently I’ve stuck fluffy patches over the three microphones and that has made a massive difference.
@@CyclingMikey Regarding the sound, I use the hero 10 and 11 and the sound is a lot better even in very windy conditions if I set the back microphone. Changind the battery is indeed a real pain. Hope the fluffy bits will be better.

I've followed The Secret Barrister on Twitter, who's written a couple of eye-opening books.
One thing they keep coming back to is how, due to cutbacks, there's never been a better time to be a criminal.
Excellent work yet again Mikey.... you are saving lives👍👍🙏
The taxi driver is absolutely baffling.
I think it's time TFL sent a reminder to their cabbies about phone use.
We was all emailed about the changes a while bk,silly man on his phone though should no better,we are not all like that
Bingo, Jackpot!! Nice suburb of London. These people feel and act entitled. Thanks for all your safety's work!! and posts.
Strange that the Tories make a policy about stopping the war on motorists and then there are no resources to process these cases
And it was the Tories that introduced this law !
What percentage of Mikey's catches get off due to police and courts bungling the procedure like this? I don't know the answer other than it is quite a lot.
I'm seeing alot more "should have, would have" at the end of these clips.
I'm a Hgv driver and you want to see how many people I see watching a film on there phones proped up on the dash in the mornings on the m4o on the way to London, now thats shocking.😮
The cognitive dissonance on display here, especially by the taxi driver is astounding.
Sadly after over a decade of ideological Conservative austerity our police forces and other public services are in tatters 😢
It's done on purpose so they can say they aren't fit for purpose and privatise them and the English keep voting them in.
seems to be getting a lot worse these days! Keep up the good work
Keep it up excellent work !
These Taxi drivers must be very dense. The taxis they are mostly driving cost north of £60,000, then they use their phones, lose their badge and may well lose their driving licence to boot!
The hat-trick..
Using handheld device
Stopping on zebra crossing
Blocking the junction..👏👏👏
I don't understand why people want to use their smart phones anyway. I hate having to use them. I used to work in a hospital. Sometimes I'd be pushing a trolley of products through the corridors. One day someone walked right into my trolley despite me stopping giving them over 10 seconds to look up and see me in front of them. I couldn't just swing round people so we would have to stop and people walk round. Then when that person hit the trolley and looked bemused and walked away, I carried on and then another person did the same thing.
All drivers using the phone should, indeed, be prosecuted but professional drivers who have the welfare of paying passenegers to consider should have the book thrown at them, IMO. Maybe you should mark taxi reports as such (maybe the police might then prioritise them) and also report said drivers to TFL direct.
When you report an incident you have to select the type of vehicle, of which PHV and Taxi are both options. They'll get dealt with the same as any other driver, but with the added hit of having their badges removed.
So justice just comes down to luck huh?
Mini also stopped in box junction.
Good haul Mikey, also good for the Treasury!
Some people cannot avoid looking at their phones for a moment, worrying they might miss some update or a message. An hour ago I saw a cyclist going along quite fast on the pavement, with eyes down looking at his mobile with no hands on the handle bars. (was not Mikey). Crazy world with crazy people.
Thats allowed because you cant trace them so it’s all good
i beg your pardon??
i am a cyclist and i walk quite a lot (having a fairly large dog) and i do have a smartphone, which i always have with me, but seldom use when i walk and NEVER when i'm in traffic...
and i do have a "solution" for idiots like the cyclist you mentioned. i just "eject" them of the sidewalk or their bicycle to keep myself, my dog and other pedestrians safe. on the cyclepath i'm known to scare the phone fiddlers half to death and if there is one who wants to "beat the crap out of granny", he/she gets some deodorant in the face and a kick (or several if need be) on the legs with my "safety joggers" (i wear those because one of my feet has been in an accident in the past which made the toes completely numb. those shoes look like trainers, walk like trainers, but certainly are no trainers).
it is forbidden to have pepperspray or mace on your person in my country (the Netherlands), but deodorant is not and it is just as effective...
🤗
@@Johndollary nope, it is not...
if a police officer catches you doing that on your bicycle you will get a hefty fine.
and this dinosaur will NEVER use her smartphone whilst cycling!

It's scary how people pay more attention to 200 grams of plastic than they do 2 tons of moving metal.
Bad luck Mikey. All thanks to the tory rubbish we have in government due to lack of staff and funds. Lets hole for a change soon.
You had field-day Mikey. Pity no one was prosecuted. Very lucky drivers!!! 🙄
Great that you are catching people but are you riding on the pavement?
No. It's obvious if you actually pay attention to the video and the bouncing up and down of the camera.
I don't know what sort of person you take me for. I would never watch the type of video where there is any kind of bouncing up and down, I am British don't you know. @@CyclingMikey
Unbelievable 😡
Police Scotland, controlled by a separate government, is just as bad.
The fines involved should ensure that all the costs of prosecution are covered so it doesn't have any affect on the Policing budget.
Great haul. 👍👍👍👏👏👏
Needs a change to vehicle insurance to limit the insurance liability in the event that a mobile phone is being used in contravention to the law….. only third party losses will be recovered and insurers will be expected to recover their losses from the offenders
It's certainly really frustrating when NFA occurs. Clearly Marlowe House are significantly understaffed and can't manage with the influx of submissions. If practically there's a maximum number of subs they can handle a day ideally they'd only allow that many subs per day, at least then people could try the following day. It feels unfortunate to ask members of the public to assist and spend their time submitting evidence only for it to wither on the vine. Then again, as you say, not the fault of those trying to deal with the influx, more those that have cut public spending on the Police.
Why are people even driving? It's an almost endless queue.
Years ago, while out fishing in Cardigan Bay, we hit a shoal of mackerel. Caught so many we had to give up and throw many of them back. Literally couldn't put a line out without instantly catching them six at a time. It ended up being a terrible waste because in the end, we couldn't give them away (we ate loads ourselves). Anyway, that's what this video reminded me of. A terrible waste of your efforts.
If they are parked but with engine running it's still a offence because still classed as being in charge
They cause extra delays at traffic lights when the lights turn green they still have their head down looking at their phone by the time they've moved off the lights are amber
A magnetic sign slapped on the body work to warn other motorists the driver is on the phone would act as a deterrent .
“Get off your phones, you scunners!” Scots word with ancient origins - absolutely appropriate for these idiots 😊
Love it all!
At this point, it would be easier to film the motorists who AREN’T using their phones in traffic!
Very disappointing, on so many levels.
it's not working, we need to increase the penalty to jail time and life-long revocation of license
Unbelievable! 5 in a row and they all skated. Looks like they must have also laid off a bunch of street sweepers too.
Don’t worry, they’ll all do it again 🤣💪
Mikey, please always engage in conversation with the culprits, it makes for VERY GOOD entertainment some of the CRAP most come up with !!! My favourite (happens to me regularly) is "You should be over there".......................................one day I am sure they will tell us where "over there" actually is !!!!
I have question someone may be able to answer for me, with the modern cars that turn the engine off when stationary for a short while and then restart as soon as you press the pedal, does that for the purpose of phone use mean the car is still running, so illegal to use the phone?
question is the car parked on a zebra crossing?
The engine is merely not turning: it is not 'off', as it is still responsive to the controls. Electric cars are similarly covered by the law as 'running' when stopped in traffic. The engine must be actually turned off and the car parked for a call to be legal.
@@mackemforever You've not answered the qurstion I asked, you've answered the question you have percieved, but all the same thank you for your reply and making the effort to do so. It is appreciated.
@@jdb47games Thank you for this reply, so if in a parking bay at supermarket with the ignition on then phone use would be illegal. I had not even considered the case of an electric vehicle!
@@nigelleyland166No…… you can use your phone if safely parked, even with the engine running. Clearly time to refresh your knowledge of the laws… and you didn’t ask the question you thought you did. You implied stopping whilst driving on the road, not whilst safely parked

It's an epidemic
Talk about Oblivious, how did the 2nd car get caught?
I just don't get it
Most of the drivers you catch have Bluetooth compatibility built in - its so easy to set that up so you can make and receive calls legally whilst driving
Just Bluetooth people!
two things. One, you do know that using a phone on bluetooth hands-free is not illegal, but it is just as distracting as being over the drink-drive limit. Two, a lot of these people are fiddling about with WhatsApp or some other app, so I suppose bluetooth is not relevant.
@TamMcNeave I agree, but I am just bracketing the ones that engage in a voice calls that are caught - I myself love to chat whilst driving to help pass the time and connect the device before setting off
Talking in the car whether be to a passenger or someone over the phone personally does not distract me from driving responsibilities. Smoking in cars is something I have never understood- one hand is occupied holding the cigarette and when you need to light it/extinguish that is a distraction in itself
I’m a long time watcher, like the channel etc, but as an Englishman I can tell you they “have a good ride” to the scooter rider is absolutely cringe making. Stop that please.
Thank successive governments? I think you need to check which party has been in power for 14 years. Then check which party massively cut police numbers and is busy dismantling the NHS, education, social care and virtually every public service you can think of.
Traffic would run a lot quicker, if they were less WhatsApp gaps 🤔🙄
Keep the idiots coming Mikey 🤗
i dont think its lack of staff think its lazy police
No excuse really, this is how bothered the police really are. The country is in such a state, disgraceful really
And stopped on a zebra.
Full house today ♠♦♣💖
It's like the message is not getting through - use a phone while you are driving, meaning in control of the vehicle, and you are a criminal. Six points, a sizeable fine and increased insurance premiums for the next five years are your prize. You could also lose your licence, your job, your house, your relationships. Is it really worth the risk?
But I don't think the message IS getting through. Thousands of these people, every day, think it actually is well worth the risk. An immediate 12-month driving ban, same as for drink-driving, together with a high-profile public information campaign, would persuade these people that they really are doing a shameful thing. Without that, they're gonna carry on.

Whilst i fully support what you do ,i think the political statement at the end is presumptuous and unhelpful
