    I wanna say you can shift into 4H up to 55mph

    • @PartimeOverland
      @PartimeOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes! You're right. Up to ~55 mph is safe, so long as you're going straight and all wheels are spinning at the same speed.

    Just bought a 3rd gen 4Runner and has the 4WD set up as yours. Thanks for making this video! I have a 2nd gen tundra and it has a knob to switch it from 2wd to 4HI and then 4LO (obviously stopped and neutral).
    Thanks again dude!

    With a manual transmission, those levers are switched around. The gearshift lever is on the left while the transfer case lever is on the right. I just bought a '98 4Runner 4WD with a 5-speed.

    Why do the gears rub when I put the 4l gear, have you encountered this problem?

    Shifting to low gear is the hardest thing to do!

    Interesting! my 3rd Gen Surf is a little different, does yours have a centre diff lock? I have a little 4WD button on the side of the shifter to switch between 2WD and 4WD, then if a pull back that puts me in 4WD High ratio with centre lock , then go across and forward 4WD Low ratio centre lock.

      Right! They added that version shifter on the limited models in 99-00 and then on all models for 01-02. What year is yours?

      Yessir, up to about 55mph. Just make sure you're going straight when you do it and all 4 wheels are spinning at the same speed

    That little accessory instrument panel, is that for automatic transmission temp? To avoid pink milkshake? I see a ton of 4runners with that thing. Is it worth it if you dont have an automatic? Any other useful info besides trans temp?

      It hooks up to the OBDII port and can tell you just about anything: I use it for engine temp, tranny temp, batt voltage and MPG. So yes it definitely helps to monitor temps. I have a video coming out soon talking over that in more detail

      @PartimeOverland  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha it’s called a “Scan Gauge”. It came with the car when I bought it, mostly I use it for monitoring engine/tranny temps

      There should be other vids on youtube for that version. It's essentially AWD (center diff lock is not engaged)

      No, you can do it at a stand-still. Sometimes it takes a second or two of driving for the 4wd light to come on tho.

    The "N" is NEUTRAL.
    IT SHOULD BE USED WHEN TOWING/PULLING A VEHICLE.
    *FAILURE TO ENGAGE THE TRANSFER CASE INTO NEUTRAL WILL BE DISASTROUS.
    I purposely used all caps as a CAUTION ⚠️. I Have watched many 4x4 channels and NONE ever mention the uses and applications of the N.
    Am also curious, this model doesn't have a Center Diff Lock? That's weird. If that's the case then it's imperative for the audience to know this is NOT a True 4x4 and you can't speed or corner with this truck.

    • @PartimeOverland
      @PartimeOverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! Very good point. I may make a separate video just for that. I didn't mention it as 95% of the time it won't be applicable. But... that 5% of the time you need to use it, it's very critical otherwise bye bye drivetrain.
      This is a 2000, so it's a "true" 4x4. In other words, the "center diff" (which it doesn't have) is constantly locked when 4x4 is engaged. So it should only be driven in 4x4 when offroad or on snow. It's no good for dry pavement.
      Cheers

    Yo, what does ECT Power mean?

    • @EricV206
      @EricV206 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It lets you stay in gear longer before it shifts. It was intended to be turned on when you are towing something with the 4runner but a lot of people including myself just leave it on so the car doesn't feel as slow

    • @PartimeOverland

      Yes, it basically allows the engine to rev higher before shifting. For instance, with ECT off, it might shift at 2,500 rpm for a given pedal input, vs. with ECT on, it would shift at something like 3,000 rpm instead...
