Made 220/175 @ 5600' elevation SQC Tuning FTW. ;)
This guy is one of my good friends and we set this race up after my tune. He beat me before my tune very easily. The look on his face is priceless, because he expected to beat me again.

So you spent hella cash and modded the fastest civic they've ever made, and barely beat a stock automatic mustang and didn't even do it from a dig. Imagine if you spent that money modding a v8, you would actually go fast haha.
First off, I didn't know people still said, "hella" (they don't). I don't know how much "hella cash" is, but it was probably much less than you think. It's fairly obvious you don't know what you're talking about because the d17 was one of the slowest Honda motors they made. "Fastest civic" is about as far off as you can get from knowing what you are talking about. Its not a stock mustang. We had already come to the conclusion that you don't know what you're talking about, but now we know you also can't read, because it says in the video description the mods, and its not an automatic either. Just FYI I have beat him from a dig too. He is a friend of mine, and he was a better sport, and a better loser than most douche bag v8 fanboys who only saw a video.
Matthew G. Those D17 are slow. But mine D17A1 came non vtec and I have built it from 115hp to 250hp N/A I'm getting ready to turbo it though. It was hard to find parts so I had to have a lot of custom parts made. Sure it was fun and expensive but if I had to do it all again. I would have done something different. But I'm selling my civic and I'm going to be getting a 350z And doing a RB25 swap in it. Because it's a little cheaper than and RB26

I wasn't aware there were such a thing as Civic drivers that don't drive with their left wrist... This is all new to me.... I fucking love this guy.... Both hands on the wheel unless shifting... I thought for all these years that the proper way to drive one was to always have your right hand on the shifter (manual or not) and the left wrist on the steering wheel with your hand dangling over the top for maximum grip....
Loosing to a Civic even has to be the worst thing that could happen to a Mustang GT owner. I remember back when I had a 2004 Mustang GT, this friend of mine in his stock Mugen Civic Si said his car was faster than mine. To keep things short, we went out and race. I was bus lenghts ahead in first gear, and pulling harder as the speedo climb. My 04 GT was a bit of a freak, it beat Mach 1s and Trasm Ams all the time. It takes a lot to make a civic fast and your seems to be pretty quick. I still don't get why his car didn't pull on you at least from the beginning, I mean he has way more torque. Perhaps he is not the best of drivers. Either way cool race.
The 4.6 sohc are slow anyways, Ford was drunk when they made em haha. Other than reliabilty, that's all that's going for em. To make a 4.6 NA fast, may as well go with a 5.0 coyote swap, then that'll be a fast new edge stang.
+ionizdgrunt2 the 2v mod is actually a pretty stout engine for it's displacement, a stroker kit that gets the displacement up there with the coyote, ported heads, headers and full exhaust, stock cams is pretty close behind a coyote, cams may put it up there. Coyote's are cool though
SpyderRios powerband matters more than numbers,you can have "500whp" all day and still be at 200whp at redline while the civic is making max whp at redline which in turns keeps in the powerband
Regardless of if the mustang was v6 or v8 it got beat by a fucking 4 cylinder civic....
The civic is pretty light if you gut the mustang it would win.
The Honda sounds pretty strong, I like. And I am the owner of a 2011 GT. Only idiots don't appreciate all kinds of cars.

Guys, this just 2 friends having some fun, no need to argue over it. Who cares what car you drive or who wins, at the end of the day if a person prefers one car to another then fine, its there opinion anyway. As long as we respect each others cars and not get mad over tiny things the car scene would be much nicer. Yeah sure there can be rivalry, just in a positive way : )

Some of the most fun I've had racing is in slow cars. Best story I've heard came from the late 70's where one of my college professors and his brother both had Ford Pintos. They'd race each other, power shifting and all, just getting on the highway while traffic around them is passing them. At least in my eyes, slow cars are fun cars!

yeah the 4.6 mustangs weren't very efficient at all. think the manual one could get a 0-60 in 5.4 or so. fucking mustang owners get so but hurt over hondas. I had a 5.0 fox body and a b16 eg and I preffer the honda. love the v8 sound, but hated the money wasted on gas going to work every day plus it was less fun than the honda. something about going fast in a small car feels more exciting

1993 cobra 5.0 had 235 horse. Gt had 205. Most ls1s are 350+. You could pull a plug wire on the ls1 and still pull pretty good on a stock fox
Matt Brattensborg Incorrect. Most are 285 BHP - 325 BHP. Pulling a wire would cause it to run horrible and lose to this 215-225 BHP Mustang GT.
Actually its common knowledge that the ls1 is underrated form the factory. Lowest factory rating being 305 highest being 345. 285 was the old lt1. Most ls1s dyno 300+ TO THE WHEELS with some making 320+ to the wheels stock. Almost all ls1s are between 340 and 360 bhp stock.

I once lost to a civic in my 96. Then we found out we were running on 5 cylinders. Every once in a while a tuner honda/acura will pull a half car. But then i smile, because i have a nice 125 shot waiting ;-) I have no hard feelign towards (rice) any thing will work if you set it up right. Some of those can move. Some are all muffler.

I will compliment your car it is nice, you can make anything beat something else if you know the specs and are willing to pour enough money into it. I am willing to bet if your friend did virtually anything to that V8 in the way of upgrades, your 4 banger would be begging for mercy. I have see it happen so often it actually hurts. About the only issue it might run into is user error. I love Hondas, "Tuned" they are cute against Base model V8's everyone loves to see underdogs win. In the circles I used to hang out with, a priceless look on someones face would turn into a Supercharger or blue bottle. "SUPRIIIIIIIIZE!!!!"
Read the video description. GT has I/H/E, Throttle body & plenum, AND a tune from a Diablo Tuner. GT has lots of stuff done to it, and still didn't win. You are correct in one thing, that is you can make any car go fast by throwing $ at it. That's not really the point though. ;)
What a waste of real money....Could have left the exhaust stock... Buy heads, and Intake manifold instead of what I bet is a CAI... and 3.73 gears... Would have been an entirely different outcome. It's one of the Few V8s that will come in rocking near 30mpg on a regular basis.

They're both fast, the Civic just happened to be more modded/faster. I respect domestic and import, and new and old cars, and if we all would say something like "That was a good race man! Good luck next time Mustang!" Instead of "The Civic is a slow Japanese pos" or "the Mustang is a slow American pos", then TH-cam would be so much more peaceful. ThingsDemystified I withdraw my comment. lol. Just did the math using a 1/4 mile calculator, and I estimate the Mustang to be about 0.4s slower in the 1/4 mile, so this is about right haha

Its safe to say that mustang has way more money in looks than he does it go fast parts. Those 2v's are considered pretty slow (I own an 03) but still its kinda impressive to see a na Honda hang with one.
Guys give honda some credit. I adore American muscle cars but I'm also the owner of a v6 accord and it really is a quick car. 0 to 60 in about 6 seconds and with mods I'm sure it can be a lot quicker. 275 bhp in a lightweight 2 door honda is a lot.

joescivic ya there's no such thing as a street driven all motor 9 second civic. 10 second ones need to Heep head gaskets in the trunk and have nitrous or turbos ,but they can't launch anyway so they are useless in a street race.
As a Mustang owner with lots of Honda friends, I approve of this video. xD As long as nobody's a dick, winning or losing is still fun to me as long as I get to race.
I have a lot of respect for drivers with properly built hondas. Light car with a k20 or k24 swap, Rev happy engine, those things can car length or two American muscle fairly easy. But also the 99-04 GT by today's standards are slow I think they are 275 hp and 280 or 290 ft lbs, somewhere around there, Ford at the time didn't want to spend money on putting a dual overhead cam engine in all the mustangs. My 3.7L v6 mustang now has 305 hp and 280 ft lbs stock to the crank. And the gearing is better engineered to get the power to the ground, but there are plenty of imports that I just won't run because I know I will lose.
to be fair that body style gt was embarrassingly slow. only way to fix them is an engine swap.
Hell don't even necessarily need an engine swap, top end in the newer stangs would work.

This kid i dont really get along with put racing stripes, xenon snake eyes, razorback, and a stupid loud exhaust on his 4.0 v6 stang, is rice.

Funny thing is, the honda (after redlining it in 4th gear) was only doing 10 mph faster than the other traffic! My cobra would have hit 140 in the same time! My brothers 03 gt antomatic would have dusted this p.o.s fart can! Wonder how much he paid the mustang to take a dive?

Matthew G you see, what i find so funny is the people who say hondas' are fast! then they say the 1st thing you have to do is put a different engine in it. My nephew had a CRX with some B22 or smething in it. they had to cut here, weld there, zip tie a radiator and fan to it, ect. I drove the car and i will say i believe it would out run an older gt. car only weighted like 1200 lbs. That little car with a DOHC V-tech was fast, but the accord wasnt all that fast that came stock with that engine. So lets take the mustang shelby gt 500 5.8 with 626hp and put it in a focus. If your honda can out run that, then you sir, have won bragging rights. (one of fords strongest engines in one of their smallest cars)
mike shelton Thats a really dumb comparison you can get a em1 cause that happens to be one of the more used civics imo and a k20 swap and it will still be cheaper then just the engine from the gt...and keep in mind these are all 4 bangers the k20 fits right in idk how TF you're fitting a 5.8 in a focus.....any car can be fast the civics can be fast for a low cost don't hate on it for that.. im sure no one thinks a stock civic would beat a mustang but that's dumb to compare the two which is why people mod their cars.........it would be a boring world otherwise, But TBH i could careless about either car #GermansFTW

I know its a dumb comparason, that was the entire point. When someone pieces together a little compact with parts from 25 different cars just to get a better weight to hp ratio than a stock mustang, they make all these comments about the mustang getting butt-hurt. But if you throw the same idea out there about swaping the mustang (or any car besides a honda), then the babies cry foul! and in any case, i would rather have the reliable stock mustang over a pieced together car that uses coat hangers and zip ties to hold it together. Just my opinion.
mike shelton yeah i see where you're coming from people do swaps all the time not only on hondas, and people will always bitch if the car they prefer lost and pull a excuse out their ass saying if it had more power ,if it weighed less,if it had better traction or w.e. i have a a4 it may not be the fastest thing in the world but i guarantee nobody has one set up like mine...thats what make the car world so interesting imo its diverse, you never know what you're up against if you lose you lose...conclude their car is faster then proceed to make yours faster...everyone's entitled to their own opinion but if its being held together by zip ties that's just a poor job but just because you have a engine swap doesn't make that the case.

To be fair it’s a modded out civic with tons of money in it VS a mechanically stock mustang GT. Put some actual money into the GT with a tune up/supercharger/forged heads/different cam profile/short throw shifter and it’ll whoop just about anything in a strait line. And that’s coming from a hot hatch owner (2016 Fiesta ST and 2014 Volkswagen GSR)

Doug Johnson he doesn't realize civics are out here doggin v8s all the time. Civics need maybe 1500$ in work to run with bolt on mustang specially one 02 and up. I have nothing against both cars but a civic with minor bolt ons is nothing to sleep on. Civics are light cars and with 2500$ a 93 civic will be side by side with your dads 2015 mustang.

You can tell the Mustang is modded by exhaust sound, but the mods aren't anything huge, mostly cheapy bolt-ons that do nothing to add any real power.
Diable email tunes are ok, they help with the acceleration in the weak parts of the power band, but those 4.6L engines need FI to really become beasts.

This civic is a swap for those of you that dont know...it LOOKS like either a 2002 ish hatch SI. that being said those weight a bit less than the 9th gen SI's that come stock with the k24. and a bolton k24 vs a bolton 99-04 gt is a very close race so that engine in a lighter chasis only makes sense that the civic wins
EM2 is a 2001-2005 EX, DX, or LX coupe. ES1 would be the sedan version. EP3, would be the Si. This video is an EM2, and near 200lbs lighter than the EP3
