In 2011, the SEC took a public vote and said they would not accept Texas A&M and there were numerous official stories with no anonymous names, but actual names in place. All 12 SEC members said they would not accept A&M and then a month later they accepted A&M & MIZ. An official/public vote saying no & they took them a few weeks later. We’ve all heard this song and dance before and the media are pawns in all this.

The SEC is not taking Clemson and the Criminoles. Bringing in A&M made business sense, those two do not. The conference already owns those TV markets. It will add zero value to their TV contracts and just split the revenue two more ways. If the SEC expands, it will be North Carolina and Virginia.

The ACC sort of started the expansion game when they added GT, FSU, VT, Pitt and BC.
When FSU was brought into the ACC, they initially voted no before another vote said yes. The SEC also voted no.
Waaay before they were the ACC they were part of the Southern Conference. At the time, the entire soon to be known ACC and SEC were in that conference until the SEC took their ball and formed their conference and the charter members of the ACC created theirs shortly afterward.
Somehow I don’t believe that the B1G and SEC aren’t interested. Until the lawsuit is settled, they really can’t interfere.

Look, I understand the "homer" aspect of commenting on this and I love the "anonymous" sources as much as the next person, but think about this logically. Clemson and Florida have both filed lawsuits against the ACC and are paying top law firms in two states to handle cases that many say are going to be long and drawn out. The exit price tag for both currently sits at half a billion dollars.
The men and women running these universities are not stupid people.
Do any of you honestly believe that these universities would be suing the ACC and trying to get out of the conference if they didn't have a wink/nod agreement with the B1G and/or SEC?
Do you honestly believe that Clemson and FSU and possibly going to pay a half billion dollars each, plus legal fees, to join the Big 12, which currently pays LESS than the ACC?
I keep hearing people talk about how FSU hasn't been a good partner and how people don't like the way they're handling the situation. FSU has been trying to get the ACC to make financial moves for over a decade. FSU (and Miami) are the only schools in the ACC that have "sunshine" laws to make their meetings public. California, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, and Washington do NOT.
Clemson and Florida State WILL get out of the ACC and they'll both have a home in one of the two major conferences. They wouldn't be doing this at all if the end result was the Big 12.

    • @colerogers9767
      @colerogers9767 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Most of your comment makes perfect sense, except the big 12 paying less. The missing link is Brett Yormark pursuing private equity. That will give the Big 12 way more money. And why would a private equity firm agree to the funding if they didn’t believe there would be a value increase? What better way to get that value added than adding two blue blood programs to a conference that has none currently.
So, you get the funding, you give it to FSU and Clemson to allow them to make way more money, which significantly increases the brand value of the Big 12, you use that added value for the new TV contract negotiations in 6 years, then you use a percentage of that money to pay the PE back over the course of the next TV contract.

    • @thomassweeney4494

There is only one problem. The Big 12 can go to the networks to renegotiate the deal. It has not been started yet. It is a possibility to bring in a third media partner. The playoff money goes up. There are the naming rights out there. FSU and Clemson would increase the size of the check. The possibilities are there. Will the B1G and SEC remain ambivalent? Doubtful. We will see what develops. Film at 11.

According to Sportico, they had a total operating revenue of $91,476,275, which is the most in the ACC and among the highest totals in the country." Sportico, July 2023
Yet all you haters are saying that Florida State doesn't bring anything to the table. Michael Alford pointed out these numbers to Florida state's BOT in their spring meeting of 2023. FSU would have been the third largest revenue producer in the SEC and/or the Big 12 as of that time last year!!
Now y'all are going to tell me that Sankey or Petiti has not seen those numbers? Get out of here!
All this is simply a smoke screen so they can't be seen as tampering with an ongoing legal battle which would get them and their conference sued immediately.
All the conferences staffs and the University presidents are simply following the lead and what they've been told by their commissioners. Period.
Plus we've already been over all of this! Greg Sankey and Tony petiti said right after we filed the lawsuit that invitations would not even be thought about until Florida State was officially out of the ACC!!! Of course they're going to stick to that rhetoric at this time.
People simply want to react these days without logically thinking through what they're saying.

I'm ready for football so we can put this behind us for a while. There was a lot of talk about USC leaving the PAC that was downplayed, then talk that the 4 corner schools would go to the Big 12 while Oregon and Washington will end up in the Big 10, but we had to endure a year of people talking about how that really isn't going to happen. Then it did.
Here is the thing with the ACC, SEC, and ESPN, Disney wants ESPN to curtail spending and ESPN threw the large cash pile to the SEC. Sooner or later, ESPN will consolidate their spending, it is just good business. That time may be now, it may be within a year or 2 or it may be when the ACC GOR expire, but in the end, ESPN is only going to have one cash cow conference and they already picked it.

The thing about adding FSU and Clemson to the SEC or Big 10 isn't just whether they add *any* value to the league, it's whether they add enough value to justify giving those particular schools a piece of their pie. If the SEC/Big Ten schools are already looking at making $75-$100 per school, how much more do they need to make to justify giving FSU and Clemson the same? One other thing to consider just in regard to those two schools and the SEC specifically that makes them different from OU/Texas is that their rivalry games with Florida and South Carolina along with their frequent games against other SEC schools means FSU and Clemson are theoretically already part of the SEC's yearly inventory- while adding games against Bama or UGA might be nice, you also add in games against Vandy and Kentucky. Is that worth it considering you already have access to the biggest or second biggest games those schools play every year anyway?

However, he has a 3.0 GPA. He has a lot of problems with missing assignments. He won't be able to get into the top notch private colleges or the high ranked out of state universities. I was able to tell him that he still has options. He can go to a trade school, or he can go to U of O. U of O is not highly ranked, in fact it's ranked pretty low. However, U of O is now going to be a part of the Big Ten Academic Alliance. That matters.
If he goes that route, being part of the BTAA is going to matter to his career. That's a big deal. Academics don't matter to the viewer. They might not even matter to many students that just want to go and play sports. They matter to the parents. They matter to the administrators. They matter to the professors.

FSU and Clemson aren't leaving until either the ACC agrees to a settlement or there is a decision in the court cases...because they aren't leaving without their media rights. This is just a snippet of the large conversation of how the elites are turning the sport we all love into the NFL. Two super conferences, more games that have less meaning, large playoff that allows teams that don’t deserve to be there to have a seat at the table, and paying players to play 6 games at 100%. This needs to stop and we need to go back.

They know that having to pay athletes 22 million a year on top of everything puts ACC schools at a competitive disadvantage. Unless ESPN renegotiates the TV deal, the ACC is all but dead. Teams have no choice but to find a way out. Comparing the SEC B10 and ACC, the ACC has the largest percentage of dead weight.
