Ive had mine a few months and used it 6 or 7 seven times. Super comfy, very light, but last time I slept on the snow, with the Nemo tensor 10 to 20 degree pad at 33 degrees, i got a bit chilled. Gills were zipped, and i was in a long sleeve thin wool shirt and just underwear, and wool socks. I ended up adding thermals, my puffy and 2 hand warmers and warmed right up. I feel like i should have been fine at 33 with a 15 degree bag, so not sure the temp rating is accurate...maybe im just a cold sleeper. I also confirm the zipper snagging almost everytime. Other than that I love the bag. Foot box is super roomy, and shoulder girth measurement is larger than most bags...62 inches i think. So though its tailored, it is not closterphobic at all. Great review... thx!
Excellent review - well balanced! Anything like a burrito has to be good! The old saying - hikers in sleeping bags are the burritos of the bear world!! 😂
So is a tight mummy bag like this actually good for side sleepers, since the whole bag turns with you? Or is a bag like the Riff better with it's wider cut so you turn inside the bag?
I've been sleeping in a 0° Mountain Hardwear Tioga SL forever and it has kept me warm, sometimes too warm, everywhere from the high mountains of Nepal, Peru, Colorado, to the deserts of California. But it weighs quite a bit more than I would like. The Nemo KAYU 15 looks good, but I am just not sure what to expect from this sleeping bag. Hmm, will it be warm enough?
Bummer about the outside zipper gill vents... they could've easily put a flap on the inside to access the zippers and protect them from touching your skin... oh well...still love the look and design!!! Great review buddy!
Is the foot box bsnana proof. That is the o ly accident I have had with a sleeping bag. Forgot the banana in the bottom of my pack on a pack and grab climbing trip. Western Mountaineering makes a tight fighting bag. They Re warmer. Thanks.
@@BackcountryExposure thanks man yeah looks like I'm just gonna have to fork up the cash...bought a massdrop down blanket...it's great but was pretty chilly in 30 degrees
Great review! I've been really torn between purchasing a Sierra Designs Cloud 20 bag or Nemo brand sleeping bag, maybe the Ramsey15 or Riff15. The Kayu looks a little too tight for me but the quality of the material looks amazing. Based on YOUR own opinion do you think the Sierra Design Cloud 20 bag has water repelling capabilities? I noticed a lot of bags advertise water repelling/proof footbox and head like most Nemo bags. Sierra Designs states nothing about the material being water repelling only that the Down inside is treated with DriDown technology. Has condensation from the tent ever effected your Sierra Designs Cloud bag? Thanks for your time. Cheers
Will last October I had two nights of some pretty heavy condensation in my tent and had a lot of it on my cloud 800. It never seemed to penetrate and soak the down, so I do feel like it’s got some kind of dwr on the fabric, but it’s not like what NEMO has. That said, I have loved that SD Cloud. It’s an amazing design and very comfy.
@@BackcountryExposure Hey thanks for the quick response. This really helps with my indecisiveness on what to do. I'm ready to order the Cloud 800 as it appeals to me but couldn't resist looking into the other Brands and styles out there. Unfortunately REI doesnt carry Sierra Design anymore so I can't see the bag in person. Hoping the Nemo Tensor insulated sleep pad or Sea to Summit Comfort Light self inflating pad will pair nicely.
Do you know of any bag that would be comparable in size and rating that is under 200? This thing is in no means common man, which blows because I love the look. I know before someone says it, you get what you pay for...... figured it was worth a shot lol
NeckRed Gringo I think your best option in that price range is the Outdoor Vitals Summit Down Bag. The design will be a little different, but I’d say that’s your best option.
Those vents are a cool idea, but does suck you need to open up to use them. Did you find yourself using the vents much? Love that quilt style sleeping bag!
Matty Outdoors I’ve used them a little. I was out a couple weekends ago and had the vents open at first, had to unzip the bag and close the gills to sleep warmer.

Thank you for showing us the compressed size!
👍🏻👍🏻
I’m more of a quilt guy, but this bag has really interested me. Thanks for posting this review. Helps a lot!
JK is Hiking thank you!
"Like a burrito." Funny. Well done.
Excellent review - well balanced!

Thank you! I make sure to keep a bottle of hot sauce near by for them to use too. :)

Thanks for sharing I’ve been looking at their Kyan 20 synthetic for this spring season.
EDC Adventures sane style, but synthetic. I bet it would be awesome.

RESTLESS OUTDOORS exactly what I was thinking!
Thanks dude!
What is your favorite?? SD Cloud 20 or Nemo Kayu 20??
Bears love pre-packed human burritos 😂
Yum yum! HA!

Thanks.
Adventures with Frodo how warm a bag is is subjective so I disagree, but WM bags are amazing.
This may sound like a stupid question, but how do you put your sleeping bag back into the compression sack? Do you roll it up or just stuff it in
Good question. I always stuff from the foot end.
Looking for a good quilt man? Any recommendations that aren't enlightened equipment?.I saw you have a Sierra design......great review
Check out Cedar Ridge Outdoors, Hammock Gear, Sierra Designs, and UGQ. All of those will be good options.

Can you reach out of the top zippers to reach the side zipper?
John K sounds like you’re asking if you can reach through the “gills”? If so, no you can’t.
can it be zipped together with the AYA?
no
What sleeping pad do you use?
Varies on weather, but an Exped HL Winter, or Thermarest Uberlite or Big Agnes AXL Air.

Don’t understand why you have to get out of the bag to unzip the gills!
You have to unzip it tho.
