Did you know that knuckles can actually access sonics route with out tails or debug mode.
You have to climb to the mid part of when you close to the spike and glide right into the other spike and if preformed perfectly knuckles is in sonics route

In Angel island he can reach that ledge in his hyper form, in the original game you would get softlocked after this due to the miniboss spawning in knuckles’ section, and if you used debug mode to spawn a signpost to complete the act, you would get softlocked later on when you tried to get into the airship section, it simply wouldn’t spawn since its not a part of knuckles’ act 2, and a screen lock would prevent you from simply going to sonic’s act 2 boss.

If you debug into sonics hydrocity act two boss as knuckles the game loops the act just all corrupted and missing items.
