Saint Nicholas always brought us an orange in addition to the chocolate. 🙂

There is so much in common with my country, Czechia! We also celebrate Mikuláš, some of the cookies like Linzer or the little vanilla rolls look the same, we eat a fish soup and a fried carp with potato salad and baby Jesus brings our presents! No wonder Budapest feels like home everytime I visit!

I am from the US and when I was little, I never believed in Santa Claus because we never opened presents on Christmas morning. Every Christmas Eve we would go to church and my Grandmother would be at home cooking. When we returned from church, the tree had presents under it and after dinner we opened our gifts. Christmas Day was reserved as holy and we only went to church, had lunch and sometimes went visiting. I definetely had a Hungarianized Christmas! lol

Hehhe, perhaps it's a Hungarian thing that we can't wait till Christmas morning on 25th, and we had to open up the presents already on the eve of 24th 😊 also, parents and grand parents cooking is the best! 😊

In Poland the Christmas season and traditions are quite similar to Hungarian. In southern Poland the gifts on Christmas Eve are brought by the Starlet however, we open them right after the Christmas Eve dinner (consisting of 12 dishes for happy 12 upcoming months). Kids can't wait, but they have to be patient. Traditions says to keep the Christmas tree decorated as long as until February 2.
Thanks for another video about beautiful Hungary!

12 dishes sounds like a nice, long and tasty dinner with family 😊 and a lot of promises about going to the gym afterwards to burn those calories 😅

Could you please make a video for outsiders who find it difficult to understand addresses and how to travel via public transportation from one district to another . One detailed video would be helpful.

Thanks - the desserts looked delicious! I've had some of these desserts from my mother-in-law (who is Hungarian although from Austria) but not all of them. I'm now googling recipes for the dios kifli and the Gerbeaud cake!! If you have recommendations, I'd love them!!!!

I agree. Luckily makos begli is available all year round, not just at Christmas. But I have not had dios kifli in many years. Stay fluffy and all the best for the New Year.@@StuffedCabbageAdventures

I always look forward to your videos. I will have to plan 2 trips to Hungary, one in the summer and 1 in winter to see the Christmas markets. Or maybe I should just stay for 6 months and catch both? 😜

You didn't mention that in Hungary it's Baby Jesus who brings the presents to the children on Christmas Eve not Santa Claus

  • @hajni3902

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. In the countries of the Carpathian basin, Christmas customs are similar. In our country, it is not Santa Claus who brings gifts, but little Jesus. Originally, he himself was the gift to the world. Therefore, Christmas Eve is the day of opening gifts for us. While in the Anglo-Saxon countries there is opening of gifts in the morning on December 25th, in the Orthodox world it is on January 6th, the feast of the three holy kings who brought gifts to the little Jesus.
