- Gameplay from Final Fantasy IV (my favorite Final Fantasy) Pixel Remaster edition. Includes the first conversation with King Giott in the Dwarven Castle, the fight against Calcobrena , the return of Rydia, and the fight against Golbez.
I was around 6-7 when I first played "Final Fantasy II" on the SNES and looked up to how strong Rydia was for the situation she was put in while being the same age as me at the time. I was so hyped when she came back and has remained a top FF moment for me. This has lived in my head rent-free since then.
Up until Final Fantasy II (IV), I hadn't really played any RPGs as a kid (I'd played Quest for Glory on the PC but it wasn't the same as a JRPG like FF2/4) so the whole experience of FF2 was surreal to me. The deep storytelling and battle strategy required were new concepts. And characters dying off and/or not being playable anymore was also new and emotional.
So when Rydia fell off the ship I almost forgot about her. You progress through the game so far before this scene and her return. And the fact that she comes back mid-battle in such an epic way... it is such a big mile marker on my gaming roadmap.

God this moment is on the top FF moments for me. Best moment in FF4 IMO.

I was about 10 when I first played this. Her return was the first and probably best and only magical surprise moment I had in a game. FF6 andbDQ11 came close with finding your castmates scattered around the map

FFIV is my favorite FF. I remember this scene blowing my mind when I was a kid. The story and characters from FFIV still live on in my head as the best the franchise has to offer. Such a classic.

How good is the translation? The old one had an awful one.
I believe this translation is from the PSP version, so it’s good.
A war between tanks and airships brings yu to the underground Gulag Kingdom . Yu mert the kindly Dwarf King (so short!) who beseeches yr aid . One of yu notices something is wrong , and yu go into the inner sanctum , where yu find that a bunch of Doll Girls have been spying on the proceedings . The Dark King nearly defeats yu , when yu are saved by someone . That person turns out to be this girl yu abandoned when times got rough , who went to Hell and found a place to live amongst the monsters . Even tho she lost the ability to carry White Magic in The Fall , she joins the Good Guys in their quest to save the world .
