    I watched a video a few days ago and the dude was dipping into some of this 'Sprue Goo' stuff without explaining what it was. Thinking I should buy a bottle of, I come across numerous ecsplinations of how to MAKE! Sproo Goo and I was baffled at first but this video made it all so clear - what modern kit builder DOESN'T have dozens of tiny tubes of liquid cement laying around from their stashes of starter kits etc? I've got a tube of big name brand Filler anyway but never twigged that I could use masking tape so I could neatly fill in the gaps in model kits 'twixt wing and feusalage!!!! Great video, thank u.!

    Here in Australia I can't find pledge. But in hardware shop see Long Life Self Shining Floor Polish in yellow bottle. I use to be a cleaner years ago and we strip and seal vinyl floors. It looks milky but dry clear. Some brands would polish like glass. U be able to get it from a cleaning supply company. Or if you have a friend who's cleaner, might be able give U a cup full to try cheers Graham

    Alex, you mentioned the good range of Wowstick drill bits, but not what the sizes actually are? As manufacturers tend to specify an exact it would be helpful to know what size bits the Wowstick supplies.
    Re Sprue goo. Is there any difference - aside from price - in the type of glue used? For example Tamiya Extra Thin would, I thought, fill gaps better. Also storage - how long is it useable? Does it dry out like some paints do?

    Currently trying Holloway House Liquid High Gloss Floor Polish as a replacement to Pledge Revive. Have used it once with good results. Goes on a bit milky but dries to a clear finish.

      Have heard the same but also that it has quite a long drying time. I'd like to compare a range of these finishes directly against Pledge to see which is most comparable and easy to obtain, has the same effect on decals etc....

    Sold on the wowstick, looks like a great item to have. Getting hold of the pledge is very difficult! Can you suggest an alterntive? Totally agree tamiya extra thin is just amazing stuff. And having tried a number of different brands the revell precision seems to be the best.

    Excellent video, thanks. 👍
    I've had my Wowstick screwdriver for a few years now, and it's the best tool I've purchased (in the price range), especially as it's much easier to use with slightly arthritic hands.
    I have a mini, Dremel-type chuck on a hex shaft that fits into an adaptor so that it fits in the Wowstick, and it's great for drilling using small bits.
    As you say with yours, it's easy to control with its low speed & high torque (for its size), and the chuck means I can change bits in seconds and requires no other tools.
    I also have a small, 18V, variable-speed multitool around 25mmØ that does most of the grunt work, and of course, the obligatory Dremel 3000 & flex for when it's _srs bizniz_ time. 😄
    One question for you. I go through a fair bit of cyanoacrylate on various projects, and I've tried to find the perfect precision applicator; I've used the disposable, stretched/pulled tips, also small, 10ml bottles with needle caps, and syringes with blunt needles, and _every single one_ has been a nightmare for blockages, even when capped!
    I see you using your Contact Pro with the needle; I know they're different adhesives, but do you have any experience using superglue with a cannula, or do you have any suggestions to solve the clogging problem? I'm getting really tired of using, what I call, the "puddle & pin" method. 🤦‍♂😆

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Short answer to your super glue question is no, I've not found a good solution. I generally use the Loctite precision as I find it's got a good balance between adhesion, drying time, viscosity and bottle design to prevent clogging - but for what we would call precision work it's still the "puddle & pin" method.

  • @bionicgeekgrrl

    With regards the tamiya glue, supposedly the airbrush thinner is very similar stuff, but much better value and the difference is in the percentages of the solvents, which is only a couple of % different. Mini painters have been saying it works just as well, though I don't have any to try currently.
    However, I have tended to favour ema's plastic weld over the tamiya product, you don't get a little brush, but the bottle is much bigger. However, the same stuff can be bought in bulk if you know the right solvent, which in this case is MEK.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not the thinner, it's the cleaner - the solvents in both are Acetone and Butyl acetate. I made my own, as a litre of each solvent is about £35, which gives 2 litres of glue/cleaner - enough for a very long time!
      Butanone (also known as Methyl Ethyl Ketone, or MEK) is another solvent used in many cements, which is a little different in its characteristics.

    • @bionicgeekgrrl
      @bionicgeekgrrl ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MannsModelMoments Thats the one, I know it was one of the two, my memory isn't great at the best of times these days sadly!
      Butanone is typically used in model railways when building plastic sleepered/chaired track work in the finescale guages due to the different type of plastic used to give more rigidity (last think you want when tolerances are sub-1mm is movement!).
      Both of them evaporate quickly though, so best to be in the habit not to keep the lid off for long. Not something thats nice to spill either!

    Have you tried Tamiya Cement (The White Top regular version, not the extra thin)? I hear many people prefer it to Revell Contacta as its of similar thickness but still comes with a brush applicator.

    Hey Alex i tryed to make some of your sprue goo. The sprue desolved good in the Glue but a week after applying on the model it is not hard enougth to sand propperly and the goo is not holding on so good on the sureface. Do you have some advice for me?

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You probably don't have enough sprue in your goo! There are a lot of other variables here as well - what solvent/glue you are using, what styrene, where you've applied it, how much, one what kit etc etc. it's one of the reasons I'm selling pre-made SG in my shop, because I can make it to a consistent recipe with pure chemicals which eliminate a lot of that inconsistency.

  • @unclecrypto6991
    @unclecrypto6991 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    instead of wasting expensive glue, use MEK in sprue goo.

    • @MannsModelMoments
      @MannsModelMoments  ปีที่แล้ว

      Pure MEK (also known as butanone) is a bit more aggressive than most cements (though it is a component of some, like Mr Hobby), so I wouldn't recommend it alone, though you can use it you need to be careful about how much you apply so as not to deform surrounding areas.
      Having said that, it's perfectly possible to buy solvents and use them (or preferably a mix of them) instead of glue, airbrush cleaner and sprue-goo base. Propanone, Butanone, Methyl- Ethyl- & Butyl- acetates, as well as acetone, are all good for this and work out much cheaper than buying glue or airbrush cleaner.

    • @unclecrypto6991
      @unclecrypto6991 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MannsModelMoments "how much you apply so as not to deform surrounding areas." - same thing can happen with "glue sprue goo". also, I wouldn't use acetone or lackquer thinner for sprue goo since they evaporate too quickly and form bubbles.
      BTW, Quick Shine Multi-Surface Floor Finish and Rejuvenate High Gloss Finish Wood Floor Restorer are urethane, so they are more like vallejo clear coats than future pledge.

      Acetone is part of the constituent of Tamiya Extra Thin - the other being Butyl Acetate. I've certainly used acetone to dilute Sprue Goo, but never neat...I guess the easiest thing would be to try it and see with some spare parts?
