Thank you for all the slab rolling tips!! I am surprised Bailey made their roller so it can't back up, it seems that is a safety feature that should be included, as "stuff happens" canvas gets wrinkled, etc. Recently, my husband made me an electric slab roller with an adjustable height and a toggle on and off switch so I can go back and forth and roll the slab out. He made it from an old furnace motor and a wood sanding machine he found at the habitat restore.

Thank you Jessica! Could you do a video on what kind of clay would be best to use for pottery and stone Ware? I have only used the liquid slip.

I am shopping slab rollers - this was helpful. Is it only going in one direction a limitation?

My rollers do not have the same measurements from on end to the other end. Can you provide me with instructions as to adjusting the roller. I have a 30" slab roller. Thank You,

When you roll out a large slab, do you slice pieces off the block of clay and Butt them up against each other on the canvas, before they go through the roller? Will they connect to each other?

in your experience, how fast does the clay harden, to the point where you have to dry it up totally and re-hydrate it? I'm thinking a dry, hot weather...

Did you make or have your rolling pin rack made for you? I like it, very useful! I wish I had room for a larger roller, I just have a table top slab roller by Bailey.

What do you think of a small one?

One if my first thoughts was of a child getting hands in the rollers. Can you tell I'm a mom? Lol I hope the rollers can be locked.

    • @JessicaPutnamPhillips

The rollers can only go one way which is a safety feature. I never allow children in my studio unsupervised. In fact my studio is locked unless I am in it and I feel is is a good practice to not allow children in the studio without an adult present. My children grew up around all of my studio equipment and never once injured themselves because I taught them studio safety from day one and they learned to respect my space and to not touch anything without my permission. As a fellow Mom I can understand your concern but when done right a studio can be a fun and safe environment for children. :)

I don't understand how it's a safety feature? If they get their fingers in there, it can't be easily reversed? Then how would you get their fingers back out? Assuming sending them through to be crushed like the jewelry would not be good.

It seems like the fact it only goes one direction is kind of a downside to this model.
