කොළඹ දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ මායිමේ ශීඝ්‍රයෙන් නාගරීකරණය වෙමින් පවතින නගරයක් වන පාදුක්ක නගරයට එතරම් ඈතක නොවේ - ලියන්වල කුරුගල ශ්‍රී ශෛලන්තාරාම විහාරය. පෞරාණික බෞද්ධ විහාරය බොහෝ හේතු නිසා සුවිශේෂී වේ. සාම්ප්‍රදායික මකර තොරණ හා සසඳන විට තරමක් වෙනස් වූත් නවීන වූත් අද්විතීය මකර තොරණක් හරහා විහාරයේ ප්‍රධාන මළුවට ඇතුළු වීම සිදුවේ. පර්වතයක් යට පිහිටි විහාරයේ පිළිම ගෙය සඳහා ඉඩකඩ විශාල ගලක ගැඹුරට කැටයම් කර ඇත. පොළොන්නරුවේ ගල් විහාර බුද්ධ ප්‍රතිමා සේම ප්‍රධාන බුද්ධ ප්‍රතිමාව සහ එහි ඇති කුටිය සියල්ල ගලින් නෙළා ඇත. ප්‍රතිමා ගෘහයේ ඇති බුද්ධ ප්‍රතිමාව නිම කිරීමට වසර 50ක් ගත වී ඇති බව පැවසේ.
විහාරස්ථානයේ ඇති සුවිශේෂත්වය බොහෝ බැතිමතුන් ආකර්ෂණය කර ගත හැකි නමුත් පන්සලට සංචාරකයින් ආකර්ෂණය වන්නේ පන්සල පිටුපස ඇති දෙයයි - කුරුගල නම් මීටර් 100 ක් උස ගල්තලාවයි.

Not far from Padukka, a rapidly urbanizing town on the outskirts of Colombo District - the Kurugala Sri Shailantarama Temple in Liyanwala. The ancient Buddhist temple is unique for many reasons. The entrance to the main courtyard of the temple is through a unique Makara Thana which is quite different and modern compared to the traditional Makara Thana. The space for the idol house of the temple, which is located under a rock, is carved deep into a large rock. Like the stone temple Buddha statues in Polonnaruwa, the main Buddha statue and its chamber are all carved out of stone. It is said that it took 50 years to complete the Buddha statue in Pratima Gurha.
The uniqueness of the temple may attract many devotees, but what attracts tourists to the temple is what lies behind the temple - the 100m high rock called Kurugala.
The Kurugala climb is a relatively easy one, not because the route up is easy but because it is a fairly short climb. The main route to the top of Kurugala is through the temple and it is advised to take this route and take permission before climbing Kurugala.
