I did too. It was hilarious. Funny thing, my 1st playthrough I romanced Gale and all he talked about was him and mystra and how wonderful they were and I was like. Ok, huge red flags can't get over old flame. So I ditched him for Asterion in my 2nd playthrough and with zero encouragement, the morning after Asterion told me about actually liking me, Gale was like.....I guess I didn't move fast enough or say enough to have you myself. I was like "well, THIS is coming out of left field." But gods, this game is soo deep. The more I learned about Asterion, the worse I felt about my relationship with him cause if felt like I was taking advantage of him. This game needs a gods damn therapist.

Gale has his moments, but he’s definitely stuck on his ex; even if he does ask you to marry him, he still talks about being Mystra’s favorite again. Then Astarion flat out tells you that he doesn’t know how to be with you because he doesn’t know anything about being “real.” And do not even get me started on Karlach. Larian did an absolutely phenomenal job with this game. Just like in life, there are no true “happy” endings.

The moments when Halsin says he wants Tav really look the best and shows how much he needs them. I hope the developers with patches will add more romance content with him than it has now, because so far we see so little in the relationship between Halsin and Tav and I want to cry... 😅😭
I think they skimped out on the romance content with Halsin because he has a lot of content "outside" of the romance in Act 1 & Act 2 but I would always welcome more of him. There's never enough Daddy Halsin content!
@@Trashanna This is also possible, and the game came out a month earlier, so maybe it also affected and maybe they just didn't have enough time. It's just that so far it feels so strongly that the romance seems to be unfinished. Especially when Halsin suddenly calls Tav "My love" before the finale, it felt like we missed a couple of scenes before that, where he finally confessed his love to Tav😅
@@bloodwitch8927I did basically everything I could with Halsin and I think the most rushed part by far was the ending cutscene. It just doesn't feel right for him to call Tav "my love" and "my heart" and then just leave. If he was truly in love as stated in many dialogues, he would at least ask Tav to join him on his new mission. I hope they fix it and at least give us an option to really "end up" with him like you can do with any other romancable companion. :/

I do disagree with the part that it doesn't feel right for him to love you but go off to raise and lead people with Thaniel in that he still very much loves you and can see from the lines that he will be waiting to see you again. He is just a polyam person and does live by how he says of being free given his nature to like to wonder. He is just happy to have you be in his life for however much time he can. This worked for my gloomstalker drow who would be travelling to help out his people. I don't think he would stay in that area forever either since he says he doesn't like being comfortable for too long and would probably help people somewhere else after like 50-100 years to catch up with Thaniel and ensure kids grow well.

The Gale hate is real on here. The dude was a hermit, studying magic, and devoting himself to a goddess, was groomed by someone who was also once only human (and became a goddess later), and then attempts to emulate her, however misguidedly, then gets punished for it without a full explanation except that he should detonate himself for the sake of the world. Mystra and Cazador are similar, even if the latter is much worse in his evil shenanigans. Mystra is more self-righteous than Gale.
Literally, and he can never truly escape Mystra, unlike Astarion who gets the chance to kill Cazador and be truly free and get to live happily, Gale (also Shadowheart btw) can never escape their divine abusers, even if they kill Mystra she will always find a way back, she always does, she's been revived so many times. Basically Gale: Tries to do something nice for his partner, catches cancer, partner has the cure to cancer but instead decides to throw you out the house, never talk to you again and leave you to suffer with your illness. And then tells you ages later, 'Kill yourself and I'll forgive you.'

It's unfortunate there was no opportunity to have the PC interact with the Goddess herself (whether alongside Gale or on their own); because while it wouldn't amount to anything (Mystra is a Goddess, after all - and could smite you if she wanted to); but it would be therapeutic to be able to mouth off at her for treating gale the way she had.

I am not surprised with this. Judging by how he reacts to the foursome scene, he even hates the idea of his lover to be touched by others even if it is just a fling. He and Shadowheart are probably the most loyal lover in the game.
I mean - astarion declines the foursome in an instant (when you finish his companion quest he agrees but isn’t satisfied anyways) yet he agrees to share with Halsin
Apparently a different writer from the one who wrote the romances wrote that interaction. It’s partly why Gale and Shadowheart act really out of character in it.

I didn't beat around the bush when it came to Halsin hitting on my Tav. I straight up had her say 'I'm flattered - but I'm not interested'. (my Tav was dedicated to Gale and wanted no one else). The calm/smooth demeanor you see in this clip goes right out the window. Halsin - for his part - seemed pretty offended when he was rejected; implying that my Tav had led him on by treating him as a lover and not a simple guest (I swear - I only had her be respectful when talking to him, as I had her be with everyone else in the camp). Even Lae'Zel and Wyll didn't act that entitled when they had their advances rejected. If there had been an option to boot Halsin out of the camp at that point; I would have had my Tav take that option; because she has no time/energy/interest in entertaining this entitled meathead who thought he had any claim to her or assumed she would jump at the chance at climbing Mt. Halsin (or that her lover would happily join in at a later date).

Apparently a different writer from the one who wrote the romances wrote that interaction. It’s partly why Gale and Shadowheart act really out of character in it.

@@geolex4560 Admittedly, I don’t have the clip where that was said. Kevin Van Ord mentioned that a lot of the quips or interactions were written by other writers and consulted with the character’s writer. The bit about romances was hearsay I’ve seen repeated over and over.

Um, you can have a happy ending with poly Halsin, being monogamous doesn't mean you'll get a "happy" ending. Plus, to change a core thing with a character, doesn't really mean you like the character all that much, does it. I love poly Halsin, his whole character is great. Glad he can get a happy ending.

You have no option besides “polygamy or nothing.” There is also the fact that in a romance ending with him, he basically leaves and tells you that you are free to do whatever, but hopes you visit sometimes. Feels more like “friends with benefits” than a romance.

Yeah, it is your choice to romance him, im just bothered with people saying that when a person is poly, thats not a good ending. That being monogomous is the only good ending. Just say its not your thing. I quite like how Halsin was made, I like his ending. I find it very sweet and nice and fitting for his character.

You are not cut from the world or locked by walls if you chose to be loyal to one partner. You chose this bc it is everything that you need and your needs are satisfied with this one person. It is like saying a vegan is cut of from the world when choosing not to eat meat. You can also say one is cut of by not exploring the gay side. You are using your freedom free choice to dedicate yourself to one cause, it isn't limiting your freedom if it is a choice made with free will. It is a kind of freedom that fulfills you.

What he is saying is that relationships are a garden. All require love and tending. However, some have fences and are cut off from others to protect it's sanctity, while others are fenceless and free to let nature do whatever it wants with it. Neither is wrong. Neither is bad. But everyone gets to choose their own garden and how they tend it and who they invite to tend it with them. He's just saying his garden is open and inviting you to it. As long as your other gardener is ok with it.

idk what game youve played, his entire arc is basically him being conflicted about his feelings for mystra because he realises that she wasn't good to him. she groomed him and at the first mistake (a big one, yes but still) she basically told him to off himself. he literally says that he wuld abandon his goddess for tav. he's just a conflicted, lost man trying to live again, like most (if not all) of the characters @@PeachT87

I didn't beat around the bush when it came to Halsin hitting on my Tav. I straight up had her say 'I'm flattered - but I'm not interested'. (my Tav was dedicated to Gale and wanted no one else).
The calm/smooth demeanor you see in this clip goes right out the window. Halsin - for his part - seemed pretty offended when he was rejected; implying that my Tav had led him on by treating him as a lover and not a simple guest (I swear - I only had her be respectful when talking to him, as I had her be with everyone else in the camp). Even Lae'Zel and Wyll didn't act that entitled when they had their advances rejected.
If there had been an option to boot Halsin out of the camp at that point; I would have had my Tav take that option; because she has no time/energy/interest in entertaining this entitled meathead who thought he had any claim to her or assumed she would jump at the chance at climbing Mt. Halsin (or that her lover would happily join in at a later date).
