  • I've always been a fan of Jescar's Power Lock+ and today we're going to check out the new and improved Jescar Ultra Lock+ which uses ceramic-polymer technology. How will it compare in our tests? We'll review durability, gloss, slickness, visual appeal, and how easy it is to use. Will this be a let down or will it set a benchmark for liquid sealants?

    First time viewer from Chicago here. I used PowerLock for about four years after seeing Obsessed Garage and Pan the Organizer videos. You’re right, it’s a good product. I bought the Jescar ULTRA lock because of the ceramic. You’re right, it doesn’t have that great gloss look, but it’s still good. I use Colinite 845 on top. The UltraLock results are good, but as a detailer, I’m looking for the elusive “next level” finish. It seems like the ceramic isn’t as glossy as the PowerLock.
    As far as durability, I applied UltraLock on the LEFT SIDE of my charcoal gray Subaru Outback in October,2023. On the same date, I applied PowerLock on right side of hood. It’s April 15, 2024 and both are still showing shine, sheeting, and beading.
    I’d rather apply Jescar instead of a ceramic coating. First, it’s a lot cheaper. Second, it’s a lot easier to apply.
    I applied Turtle Wax ceramic/Graphene on the roof of the Subaru. It’s still going strong as Jescar.
    I’m satisfied with all three products, but I’d probably stick with the original PowerLock. I can’t see difference between UlraLock and PowerLock topped with Colinite 845.

      Thanks for the info on your use of PowerLock, and UltraLock. I do agree both of these are good and ayea the PowerLock is a bit prettier. I think if you don't mind applying more frequently these kind of products are a great alternative to a coating.

      Thanks! I think overall Jescar probably makes more sense due to improved durability. Though the Wolfgang DG3 is prettier IMO. So its kind of a tossup as far as what you want.

    Dimitry, the wipe off is good with this one? I was going to try this product as I love the original Menzerna Powerlock+ which I actually still have a bottle of before it switched to Jescar here in the U.S. I read several bad reviews on line that said it was a nightmare to remove. I wonder if those people didn't apply it correctly as I know the original Powerlock+ was very easy to remove which is why it is one of my all time favorites. I have done the whole Powerlock+ topped with Collinite 845 which was a stellar combination for gloss, reflectivity, and hydrophobics. That original Powerlock+ is one of the best stand alone sealants to work with due to ease of use and the long term protection (up to 6 months by itself if maintained decently and topped with a topper every so often.

    Dimitri, what wax, or sealant, etc... provides the best gloss and wet look, which I love a wet look shine.

    Does Ultra Lock play as well as Power Lock does with Collinte 645 Insulator wax ? Also after initially polishing should you use an alcohol wipe down before applying either of the Jescar products?

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haven't tried it with the Collinite yet so not sure. I do generally recommend alcohol wipe down to get rid of any contaminants from the polish.

    Dmitry, would it be fair to say that the gloss would be much better on a vehicle that has not been decontaminated and polished? A lot of people do not have the ability or money to have their vehicle polished. It would be interesting to see the gloss difference on a polished vs non-polished panel for gloss levels. Obviously, durability would probably take a bigger hit, however for those weekend warriors who only wash and wax their vehicles.

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is fair to say, yes the duller your paint is the better these products work in terms of improving looks. Even without polishing most new and well maintained cars hit around 90GU. We’re really talking about improving old neglected cars in low 80s GU wise for example, where you would see the biggest potential for improved reflectivity. I originally started my channel with a focus on enthusiasts, and even those that don’t polish typically have fairly clean paint. I suppose as the channel grows it may make sense to show more restorative options for neglected cars.
      I’ll think about how to do that, since we would need to reliably dull a panel to be similar to a real world neglected paint. One thing is if someone showed me paint that is that bad and had no money to pay a pro, I would just say spend $100 on a cheap DA setup and just give polishing a go yourself. A $100 DA operated by someone inexperienced isn’t going to give amazing results vs a professional who will also wet sand as needed, but if its an old clunker who cares? Something like the Vonixx AIO polish is so crazy easy to use/learn.

    Why did the gloss go down? I thought this is meant to increase depth and gloss...

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The amount of reflected light went down, which is the “GU” (gloss unit) measurement. How your brain interprets gloss is more complex, you see depth for example and overall clarity/character. You don’t want to loss a ton of light reflection though as it does hurt the looks a bit. For example losing 10GU would start to look noticeably less shiny.
      Another way to think of it is that a mirror would score very high on this test. It would max out the unit. However, you rarely call a mirror glossy.
      Basically this is a test of “how reflective”.

    idk i got pretty bad beading and sheeting, maybe because i applied little too thick and waited 20 mins instead of 30, idk but was pretty disappointed. Application tho was amazing.
