  • Will Ethos Car Care top our durability charts and offer professional level performance in a DIY package with its MAX Graphene Coating? Ethos says the MAX coating has the highest resin content available to the public, that it will last over 7 years, and will provide extreme gloss. Today we are going to perform all of our tests including durability, glass meter readings, and slickness. Of course we're also find out if it's really a DIY product given the claims and see if it makes paint prettier. In our last video we tested Artdeshine's NGC, a professional coating, so this is the perfect time to see how Ethos compares.

    Love your tests. One differentiator that I wonder about is how coatings stay clean or resist "clogging". I think waxman vids did a side-by-side test on a door with DIY Detail 3 year and Mohs Evo and the DIY was needing waterspot remover while the Gyeon was still beading. Not sure if there is a way to test it, but that's one of the remaining unknowns between coatings.

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thanks! I have been thinking about how to best test this, would definitely need some kind of standardized contaminants mix, but testing water spots is pretty easy, could even keep it consistent by dissolving minerals in distilled water. It may be something I add later.

It’s not too hard to use, you should just play with a small area first where you have good light and easy visibility (i.e. trunk lid) so you get a feel for how quick it flashes in your environment. It definitely is a bit more tricky if it is your first time though.

    Nice review Dmitry. I haven't done a full ceramic coating on my vehicles yet. I am still old school and used good quality sealants on my vehicles. This coating looks amazing. My wife just got a new Subaru Outback and this coating looks like it might be the perfect coating for her daily driver. Can you use it over PPF? We got half her front hood PPF'd because we have a ton of rocks on the roads here in Colorado. It's not if, it's WHEN you get a chip. She had the car three weeks and got a big rock crack in the front windshield already! It's crazy how many rock chips you get here, CRAZY. They mount up on your car almost daily. I have a 370Z that was perfect six months ago. Now it has dings and chips all over it and I have only driven it about ten times in the past six months. Most of the roads here are in horrible condition. This might be my first adventure into putting a ceramic coating on!

    Very interesting about the UV protection not being a thing at all. I always heard coatings marketed and said to have UV protection and protection from oxidizing and fading paint. Would something like a carnauba wax provide actual UV protection? Just subscribed and found out from Jamie’s channel. Very thorough, objective testing!

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      All these things are just very thin layers, including waxes We are talking microns thick, truly microscopic. Plus many of these protectants are consumable, they degrade as they protect, so a tiny layer wouldn’t be effective very long. However, I do think they can protect from some elements of oxidation. For example by keeping water, grime, salt, etc… off your paint. Water combined with UV is more effective at negative affecting materials than just UV. So in that sense it still helps, just not really by blocking UV directly like a clear coat.

    Re the slight loss of gloss, I'm wondering whether this may be due to less than perfect product removal/levelling. Have you ever tried machine buffing, to REALLY thoroughly level/finish? Maybe using a MF buffing bonnet, or even a soft foam pad? I think this would be an interesting experiment. If it does improve gloss, I can imagine it may come at the expense of longevity, due to the buffing removing too much product

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It may be something to play with, though my experience is that buffing is really good at removing coatings quickly. They’re incredibly thin and relatively soft. A quick pass with a soft pad and finishing polish is all it takes for me to re-prep the panels.

      With a 2019 you likely have the new rocker arms. You can use an amazon bore scope to check them out, there are some audizine posts about it. Maintenance wise it's probably time to do your trans, transfer case, and front/rear diff fluids at 70k. Replacing the trans pan that has the filter in it is a good idea. Audi (like all automakers) says they're lifetime fluids, but ZF disagrees.

      Good coating products are going to be similar like many of the good waxes and sealants are. However, there are differences even between the good products. I really like Adam's coatings, but in my testing their advanced formula isn't as durable as this Ethos which is also marketed as an advanced formula. The Adams couldn't stand up to 300 passes, while this product survived the highest scored test of 1,000 washes and hardly took a dent even at 3,000 washes, though I don't score that high as explained in the video. I've also been disappointed by coatings that didn't perform well like the Avalon King IX which wore off almost instantly. I have a table of past results if you want to compare: dmitrysgarage.com/wax there is also a link there to the old 1.0 table with the old testing method. Thanks for watching!

    Put some dirt in the wash to replicate real world situations. Your tests are too ‘clean’. I’ve been Detailing professionally over 50 years.

    • @DmitrysGarage
      @DmitrysGarage  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It really wont work with the machine and it’s not exactly the point of the test. The goal of this test is to compare different coatings repeatably, not to establish how many real life hand washes you could sustain. The dirt would just increase abrasion, i could just use a rougher pad for example and achieve the same results. The other issue with realism is how much dirt? What kind of dirt? If you’re washing dirty suvs in the winter in the rust belt its very different than sports cars in the summer in miami.
